My birthday is Juneteenth, June 19th. When my son was little he always thought the Juneteenth parade, BBQ and blues were for my birthday. My kinda celebration, even if it wasn't for me. I hated to tell him it wasn't so.

how could you not have heard of fate? ralph hall was born and raised in fate. it's been here a long time. but now it's just about taken over by the HOA's. good grief.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Well shoot, Mamajack....you made me hafta google ralph hall......since "Kay" and "John" and "Susan" all lived in our subdivision before state elections, I can't get very impressed....even Guv has to drive down our blvd to get home (since the fire, you know)...only he lives behind gates and doesn't invite us plain folk in! Now if you told me you'd had an Elvis sighting....or even a UFO in Fate...now I'd be really wantning to hear all about it. I saw a UFO, come to think about it.........

Dahlonega, GA

I'm sorry , I guess I'm out of touch too , who is Ralph Hall . I bet I'm going to regret asking that . digger

My sister's birthday was June 14th. When she was a kid mom used to tell her the flags were out for her.

well my very first email address was barbarapresley1@aol. that's similar ain't it?

and ralph is a nice man. he is one of tx. u.s. congressmen. he don't always vote like i want him to though but he moved to rockwall and was tainted somewhat.

bubbles who is susan? and which john?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

mamajack........you really do crack me up! How many degrees of separation are you from the King? Could you be a distant relative? Now I'm impressed!
I have a cousin who's a congresswoman in MS. Had a cousin who was a MS congressman, but I think he was 'indiscreet' and didn't get re-elected! Hate politics...... growing up, my dad's uncle was chief of police, and my mother's uncle was a city commisioner.

forgot............John Cornyn and Susan Combs

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

My Dad was the mayor. I didn't like living under a microscope. My uncle was the mayor of another town, and went on to be a congressman. My folks wanted me to become a lawer and then get into politics. I chose not to.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

bubbles i ain't really related to him. it was a reference to my senior year school notebook which was dedicated in almost it's entirety to elvis. i was barbara presley my whole senior year. i had just seen elvis in person in tuscaloosa, alabama over the summer. he was the absolute without a doubt most outstandingly physically beautiful man that ever lived. good Lord girl he was flawless.. he was.

it would be awful for me to be in a family of law oriented people. and dang that's some heavy duty police type jobs. scares me.

and bubbles are you from miss?

annette.....politics? it's certainly meant to be a lofty position. but even i could fly with these foul..uh fowl that are so prevalent today. what made you not do it? you have to have a perfect spotless life anymore. be hard for me to do.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

OK, nice try to change the subject Mamajack!!...Back to the Chantix, my DH quit on it after smoking since he was about 14. He would quit cold turkey a few times but would sneak a couple and he was off and running again. The DR recommened it to him, and I don't think it was covered. But I just asked him about the price and he doesn't remember but did say it was less than buying a carton of cigs a week.
He has felt so much better since quitting and I enjoy being around him a lot more too. You take it and continue smoking for the first week, then give up the smokes. To him it seemed to keep your brain from enjoying or feeling satisfied, not that the second week wasn't rough, but makes it easier. You really have to want to quit for anything to work though. Hope you decide to quit, it is never too late.

Just got to make one more comment about kin folks . The claim to fame on my daddys side , and grandma ,is ta da , She was a Booth and John Wilkes Booth was her great grandpa . Hope none of you are kin to Abe Lincoln . digger

On my family line, I've decided they must have every one been outlaw arsonists becuase every time I try to find information on any of them, the court house where the records would be burned years ago, sometimes more than once! I've got a couple of Revolutionary war vets, but mostly outlaws.

well then i need to talk to your husband sheila. the way you described that stuff is the way the dr. explained it to me. that is hard to get how i just wouldn't want a cigarette. that don't sound like anything that could happen to my body. may be worth a try though. the last med they had for that was welbutrin. i smoked right through the wellbutrin even when it made my temp spike to 103.

i like this about the ancestors. what else do yall know?

Dahlonega, GA

Mama , i know I smoked about 3 weeks before I just wasn't that interested in a cigarette one morning . Be honest with yourself , If you think you can do without , then don't . Don't light up if the interest has waned a bit . When you want to kill something , take a puff or two and put it out . D

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

how long has it been going of for you digger? i am averse to bodily discomfort.

Dahlonega, GA

I quit on my third try . I got serious the last go around and stopped at end of third week . continued to take the pills to get everything out of my system . Like I said , it's a three mos supply . I figured if I smoked 60 years , I had a lot of stuff to get rid of . I started when I was eleven yrs. old . D

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

Good luck to all those who are trying to quit. Hope you are all successful.

Mama: Before I can tell you about why, you have to understand that I was my mother's adopted mother's showpiece. She always made plans for me, including trying to marry me off, making dates for me, since I was 13. I have always been very independent. She was always "ill", and I had to learn to run the household, including paying bills and balancing her checkbook. She had two simultaneous businesses, Antiques and a dog kennel. You ever scoop poop? Anyway, to make a very long story short, I got married at 17. It's been 45 years in October. She passed away in 1990, on our 25th wedding anniversary. I think she did it on purpose. She was that kind of person. I did find my birth mother, but to this day she will not communicate with me. I have a half sister that does. I was better off being adopted.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

45 years.........sounds like you got a good'un.

quitting smoking..........its a big deal, ain't it?

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

Yes, I am blessed, even though sometimes I wish he had a hobby other than me! I am signing him up to take the master gardener course - he will learn some things, and I will have the house to myself for a few hours! Sometimes retirement "ain't what it's cracked up to be". As I said, I am independent, and don't need his "help" doing my chores!!

Dahlonega, GA

Annette , Sounds like you have love in your half sister . Three sets of us kids with the same mom and we don't really understand "half sister or brother " We were raised in the same house together .
I just had one kid and I would literally kill someone over him .

digger

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

Yes my sister is a sweetheart. She was raised with my bmom, along with two other sisters and a brother, and thier Dad. Completely dysfunctional family, very secretive, except for the one sister. She provided me with half of my medical history. We are still looking for a brother, one year older than me. There are seven of us, that we know of. Mother will not give any information on exactly when or where he was born. She is the only one that knows who my father is. I may have other family, but will probably never know.

Copperas Cove, TX(Zone 8b)

I feel for you Annette. I have been finding my family as well. Found my fathers side and two half sisters. Now looking for my step brothers and sisters I grew up with. Would like to see how they are doing. Digger I have been thinking about the Chantix. Its about $200 but I can get it free through the military if I go to smoking cessation classes. Kind of scared to try it after the Wellbutrin problems. I am so calm and laid back and it made me want to cuss out anybody that looked cross eyed at me and had thoughts of strangling people that really made me mad, lol. Not my personality at all. I got a divorce from my last husband thanks to that making me tell him everything I didn't like about him, lol. Not in a nice way either.

Dahlonega, GA

If you being sweet to someone keeps you married , think of it as not worth the a - - kissing . You are definately better off . Someone out there is willing to meet you halfway .
Now that being said , If it does work you up somewhat , (mine didn't) it wouldnt be as bad for you as the cigarettes . Think like this, coughing , gagging , nasty breath ,hard to get enough air to walk to the kitchen ,definantely can't ride a bicycle and no air to do housework . What happened to making a trip to the back yard to get a shovel and transplant that flower ? Takes too much energy . If you can get it through military , GET IT .
The worst thing it did to me was make me queasy on an empty stomach . A piece of toast or bread and butter stopped that . It says take with 8 oz of water . I hate water if it isnt coffee flavored .
After all , it's your life , you can live it with comfort , or as I described above . digger

Copperas Cove, TX(Zone 8b)

I have a new and improved husband now that I like just fine, lol. Not much to complain about with him. I finally found a good one. Might lose a few customers if I started telling some of them how I really feel though, lol .Mainly the ones that try to take advantage of my husbands kindness and generosity too often. I am just waiting on hubby to be ready to quit with me. If he still smokes its too much temptation for me. Has to be a both or none deal to work. I could save soooo much money and since he smokes twice as much as me we could take a real vacation with all that money, lol.

Dahlonega, GA

So I was right huh ? You already found that good one . Maybe if you explained it to him , he would go outside to smoke , and if you can quit , he would be inspired to join you . You would have to be really dedicated to this for it to work . Or knock him in the head to put him in hosp for a week , that'll get him started . LOL digger

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i am busy busy this weekend. hope everyone is good. it still makes me nervous hearing all this talk about quitting.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Barbara, if you decide to do it, we will all be with you here. We will help you get through it. Do it over the two week Christmas holidays and send the kids to grandpa's house. If that don't work, I would gladly have them here.

You go girl! We'll be backing you all the way! And, BTW if you can't do it, we all understand. It is hard to quit smoking or lose weight. Either one has it's good points for our health. Either one has it good points for our compulsive needs.

Charlene

Dahlonega, GA

Determination . By gosh I CAN do this . This habit isn't going to rob me of my health in my older years . The good news is , the Chantix helps your craving subside to a low enough level to whip it . digger

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

yall this is something you have to prepare for, isn't it? you know it's going to make me so mad if i quit and then get "something".

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Barbara...You may as well save your money until you REALLY have a desire to quit. Nothing will work until you make a strong committment to it.

MAYBE you could start by cutting back. Brams and DQ have some straws that are the size of cigarettes and DH used to cut them in half and carry one with him. When he would feel the urge, take it out and post pone a cig for at least 30 min. by breathing deep through the straw as though he was taking a drag from a cig.
Best of luck at doing something...you owe it to the kids and future grandkids.

guilt has been introduced into the laughing, giggling, and whatever else i named this thread. why do they always use guilt? it's the lowest thing you can do to a person. haha

i have an amaryllis co-op. the dang rules committee made me crazy in the beginning. are any of yall on the committee?

Dahlonega, GA

I bet there are some good stories out there about what you did for a 16 th birthday party. digger

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Well Barb...you can leave it all behind and open a new thread. This one is over 350 replies now...think it is time??

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

what if i move it and no one comes to the new place? should i put up an interest thread first?

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

That's funny! Put it up: They will come! Besides, I am stuck with dial up, and it takes forever to load!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

honestly.......it's been so long since i've done that i have forgotten how. tell me how to do it.

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm new, compared to you!!!! I haven't a clue! I don't know if this will work, but if you start a new thread, put in something like We came from here: them put a link from this thread. You could use "tabs" to do it. Title it the same, add "Part 2".

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

OK....
1. Copy the title below and put it as subject of a new thread like Annette said.

Where are all the funny, laughing, giggling people? Part 2

2. Also copy the link to this thread and edit your new post and add it saying "where we came from". That way if anyone wants to go back and read they can find it.

3. Then copy the link to the new thread and put it here, and we will follow!!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

you mean i go back to the texas forum and start a new thread with that title? or what if i go put it under the pnw forum for fun. can you even do that? it could be like the travelling thread. southeast is next after that.
and part of the fun would be that yall would have to find me.

then if i start a new thread do i start back at post number 1? i'm going for the longest running thread in daves history and would hate to go back to numero uno.
