where are all the funny, laughing, giggling people?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I wish I had known about the cages Sheila, we paid 50 for just one, oh well, you live and learn.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, well, I will keep on telling people about the rescue dog. I do understand the preference for small dogs. That is my choice also. My daughter likes large dogs, and like you I love all dogs, but prefer the lap sitters.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yours may be better made, but the ones we got paid for themselves and will still work for another season I think. Looks like they went up a few dollars.

I used to tell people that I was one day going to get myself a lap puppy. And as I was telling them my cat Queenie was sitting on my lap. Or Fred (Maine coon looking cat) would be sitting with his front paws wrapped around my arm. So it occurred to me that I already had lap puppies, except that they're cats.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes and they don't like to share. LOL!

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh yeah that's true. One of them, Roo, decided he was going to chase the mama raccoon the first night I saw her. Of course she was off the end of the porch before he acted like the brave cat he's not. But it looked good. This is Roo

charlene i am a big dog person but i already have 3. no room in my 1200 sq.ft. house for more. just wanted to come on and cheer for the big dogs. especially big black dogs. did yall know that black dogs are the most unadoptable at shelters?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Mama, I didn't know that about black dogs. That;s interesting, and I wonder why they're hardest? I'm partial to big dogs too. I think it's because I don't like the "yippee" voice of smaller dogs. Not a big fan of big dog who're continous barkers either though. Luckily my doggy only barks if she feels she needs to alert me to something. Otherwise, even in play with other dogs, she keeps her mouth shut. I like that! I also feel more secure with a bigger dog around. We've had a number of breakins in our area and nobody in their right mind would come in here with her on the loose! Any time a stranger enters the house, she stays between me and them with hackles up until she sees if I'm okay with them. Once she knows I'm okay with them, she settles right down. I'm a one woman boxer fan club!

Well I got good news and bad news. The good news is that an organization called New Leash on Life is helping us with vet bills for the two dogs. The bad news is that the black dog had to have an emergency visit to the vet today. He has strep throat. I never heard of a dog having that before. He is running a fever and coughing his head off. We were scared to death that it was kennel cough. That would have been very contagious to the other dogs. The vet says that unlike human strep, dogs seldom catch it from each other.

We took both dogs in to the vet (who didn't charge us a penny for it, thank goodness).

The vet says that the black dog is going to be a VERY BIG dog. He says he is most likely English Mastiff and Lab. We have a full blood lab already and the pup is nearly as big as he is and he is 3 1/2 years old. The vet also says that from the teeth that he can tell that the dogs are about four months old. The female is mostly german shephard.

The vet says they were very likely liter mates. The black dog has "tail feathers" that are relevant to shephards. So, it appears that the mother dog was a shephard and the black dog's father was part mastiff and part lab. The shephard could be all shephard possibly.

My daughter Shelly is going to become a member of New Leash on Life so we can continue to get free vet care for the two dogs and the kitten that are rescue animals. He will also give us any emergency care and their shots for free.

The vet says that since there is no affiliate in our county, he is making an exception for us. He wanted to know if we would be interested in taking more animals until they could be placed for adoption. My husband said no way! This has been a lot of work, since we were not set up for the extra animals. Ours are all house pets and we just can't take any more inside. Outside, is dangerous due to being on a farm to market road. We have 54 acres, but our fences are for cows, not dogs.

The vet also warned us that animals are being dumped at a very high rate right now. He said we would likely be fostering care for these animals for a long time. He also said we would likely be too attached to them to place them anywhere else by then.

HELP! Someone save us! Our hearts are being very hard on us. This is a lot of work and very expensive to boot, (even with the free care).

Anyone care for a red velvet cockscomb?

I forgot to mention that it comes with a free ribbon snake. As if we didn't have enough pets around here, I found this nearly three foot long snake just lazing around my flower bed this morning. Many people keep these snakes as pets. I was scared to death that Shelly would want to keep it. That is where I draw the line!

We just left him alone in the flower bed. He can eat bugs for me and I will just leave him be.

Correction: Wrong picture here, see next pic. The pic posted here is of a moonvine that crossed with a morning glory. See closeup of flower in pic after next.

Sorry for the late night confused pics. LOL

This li'l buger is no bigger around than your little finger, and maybe not that big. He is nearly three feet long when he is stretched out.

The cockscomb that he is on is bigger than most cabbage heads.

Did you happen to notice the moonvine in the pic where I meant to put the snake? Here is a close up of the flower. It has crossed with a morning glory. Very different.

The flowers are beautiful but any kind of snake makes me run really fast. No snake pets for me.

Just found this thread and have had a glorious morning reading all the posts . Makes me proud to be a Texan . Got a dil from up east that still takes a joke as if you'r putting her down ,and even gets tears . How nice to be with real people for awhile . Thanks for all the stories . digger

Hi digger and welcome! .....I don't know where all the other funny, laughing, giggling people are this week, so I'm just going to have to entertain you all by myself today with another story from "True Files."

DD's MIL requested a family photo be done at the reception. I mistakenly thought she meant ALL of us....blended family, you know. But no, she only wanted groom's side (and new bride). So after groom's family took their's, our side of the family had our own photo taken at the reception. Well, two actually.....one "formal".....and the other...."normal." Sending our normal one for viewing......handsome bunch, aren't we????

Pic is a little fuzzy to protect the innocent.......(and DD might have a cow).....

What a great wedding picture! I think it's better for the brides family to know what y'all are really like, NOW, before they can mis-judge you, and tell all their friends what snobs you are!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

We are the bride's family!!!! And believe me...no one could ever think we're snobs.... Nuts, maybe.....crazy, sorta...but not snobs..... Was groom's mom that wanted photo of her side of family.... and they're very nice folks!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

dang bubbles i want to be an honorary member of your family. i thought i'd never find yall. is that you in the red dress? dang you're skinny. how many kids did you have and i see you have stopped eating kentucky fried. not me. i used to be so skinny. so very skinny. it just makes me giggle now to see my fat stomach and big butt. cause i used to look like i was a practicing bulemic.

glad you posted this bubbles. cause last week i found a thread that had over 900 comments and i want this one to get past that. are yall game? i want to have the longest running thread on daves. reckon ol dave would give me a prize or something for doing that? somebody ougta ask him for me. don't tell him i asked about it though. make it look like you thought of it. i want a prize for doing nothing though. always have.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Barbara, unless you have put on 100 pounds in a year's time, you, too are skinny. Not much of a butt or belly.

You never did respond to my idea of how to decorate EV's palace. When you asked what I had in mind I answered you.

I said lattice panels on either side of the entry. I have some long shear curtain panels that we could drape around. I also have lots of crystals (from my history of repairing chandeliers) that we could use. Of course she would need a throne and I think we could make her a queen instead of a princess. She would need a few seats for guests.

The opening would need to give some privacy, but not too much (she is dating age after all). A few solar lights for ambiance would make it cozy.

Since she is not a flower lover, (due to her mom's over zealousness in the flower department), we could put some plastic ivy on the trellis's for looks.

My curtains are blue, does she like blue?

The threads for critterologist (Jill and Jim) new baby girl is running way over any kind of limit. Find it in the prayer forum and it is the happiest thing on DG right now. Adoption and she was born Sunday. Very, very happy.

Hey Barb. The daylillies are beginning to look like real grown-ups.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Not to worry all, I have enough junk in the trunk for all. lol

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

charlene, she is not dating age yet. she ain't 16 and she can't drive and she can't date. nah-nah nah ..nah...nah-nah.
i wish i had done something like that when she was little and maybe she would like plants better. but now i am thinking i want to make it like a secret garden. so i am seeing walls of roses to screen it in. and someone has offered a hot tub but i think it would be expensive to run so am thinking i won't do that. but something with water is what i want. and yes you are right.........it is to be the queen. i bought this year some crossed plants off the lily auction. one of them is jackie blue with god save the queen. lol can't wait to see them bloom next year. anyway that is my plant to call exactly what i want to call it and i am going to name them after my two cherubs. neither of which can date. haha

and digger i like it when the texas forum brings 'em in. glad to see you here. ain't you got a joke? or better yet tell me something your husband would kill you over if you told. and did we ever trade?

and lucy and to whoever's listening..........DID YALL HERE THAT? we got some work to do to catch up with this baby thread. but wait, critter has been trying to have a baby for years, hasn't she? did she adopt? i read that thread for awhile and hoped to catch it up after she got the baby. i have to go read and congratulate her. how happy making. and lucy glad to here the dl's continue to thrive. i will be waiting anxiously next year to see your blooms and mine.

and anne, the ice plant is struggling along but i have neglected it to no end. i just do awful getting plants in the summer and i say every year i won't do it and then ........there i go again. and do you grow any baptisia? would you want any seeds of the hunt county screamin' yellow one? this is a TEXAS NATIVE josephine. yay me.

and bubbles, what time you want me there for Christmas?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Well mamajack...you can sure join our family...but only if you can be funny and sarcastic, while remaining kind to idiots and small children. And did I forget to mention that photo was taken nearly 12 yrs ago when I was a size 4? I'm now a 12. Hateful body turned on me as I got older. Glad I didn't know how I'd turn out back then. I'd have probably held back on the ice cream, wine, and cake. I've kept that red dress. Going to be buried in it. Have 'em slit it up the back and stuff my little fat arms in it. Who looks at the back anyway? In answer to your question......I only have one child.....the poster child for zero population growth. Don't like Kentucky Fried chicken....has to be Church's or Popeye's. And I have never, never laughed at my fat stomach...you may just be crazier than me, now that I think about it!!! You're going to have to carry your thread now. We miss your cop/ticket stories. You will have to come up with something bizarre to share with us so we can comment.
AuntAnne...looking forward to RU at your home!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

well i'd tell you more cop stories.........because i do have them.........but it makes me look bad to be in trouble so much. but they find me and i just have to say what i have to say and they almost never like it. i always say sir. the only time i was scared beyond reason was when dawn and i were trespassing for daffodils. and baptisia. and this cop started blowing this fog horn over and over. we were a long way from where i parked my car. and when we got to him he told us that he had called for search dogs. and i was hanging all over dawn. i had to touch her as it was just too frightening to be alone. glad we had the bulbs or no telling what he'd a thought.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Now that's funny! I'm going to sign off now. I have to be up early in the morning to sneak out and water when it's not my day.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL!! I remember that story Barbara. Good thing you did come back to the car when you did. Having dogs charging after you would have been scarier!

This is too funny that you should post that picture BB! Last night we went and picked up my DN's little boy, Caden our "sudo" Grandson. He is spending two nights with us. Today we went by the Dollar Tree and told him he could by five items. Funny what kids will pick when left to decide! LOL! One of the items was the Groucho gear!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Sheila, you have to post pic of GGN without his get-up. I'm sure he's cuter than that! (BTW, I think we have the same eyebrows!)
Great pic Josephine! Do you still have your disguises? Someone borrowed my bag of 'em for a party, returned them, they stayed in the bag until someone else borrowed them....and I told them to keep 'em.....too many noses in those noses for us to ever wear again...and no dishwasher-safe eyebrows... I do get nostalgic when I see them in the toy stores, tho.......
We still buy them for special occasions....

Barb I think we need some more of your stories. I know for a fact trouble just follows you around :o)

Good to read this funny stuff. I went to visit my childhood friend last week in Birmingham, Alabama and we rode to Florida for a relaxing beach trip with her sister and she left us in the middle of the night. Needs her meds adjusted I'm thinking so here we are stuck at the beach with 4 tropical storms forming in the gulf and I have a plane to catch the next day or so I thought. My friend gets someone to come all the way from Birmingham to Panama City Beach to pick us up and we drove all night and got back in time for me to get to the airport so I am breathing again now. (Keep in mind this is the first time I have been away from my husband in 6 years) Go to check my luggage and they say they can't find me in the computer (already sent my friend back home so she wouldn't have to pay parking) I show them my itinerary and say look right here September....... September Oh bleep.... start crying.... the lady says its ok just call this number and they can fix it and get you on this plane you have plenty of time. I call get put on hold for 15 minutes and they say can't help. Call Delta. They say can't help.... having chest pain... want to charge me $900 for a new ticket..... gasping having more chest pain..... head about to spin around and fly off. Dump out the suitcase look for emergency stash of xanax..... no medicine in the bag....... friend calls and says don't leave yet I'm on my way with your meds, found them at my house. I said come get me having a nervous breakdown. Went to her house and called southwest and got a ticket for $112 with free luggage so I made it home. Never thought I'd be so happy to see hubby and home, lol.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Bless your heart....that's awful. You do know though, one day you'll be able to laugh about this. Not soon, but someday. Till then, I'm afraid we're going to have to laugh.....'cause that's a funny story. You just can't make this stuff up! Sooo...what about the other ticket? Are you planning to go back to B'ham in Sept. so you can use the rest of the ticket to fly home? Have you put a contract out on the sister?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Bless you my dear, that was really awful. Glad it all turned out O.K.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

F4F....That is panicville for sure! I hate to get somewhere I am unfamiliar with and have difficulties like that. It will definately make your heart flutter!

Josephine....too funny!
Digger.....Oh you haven't got a chance to win that one, you look like a fun person!
BB....Yes he is much better looking without the mask as he called it. (he thought it was a scary mask, doesn't know the person behind it like we do, lol!) We took him home today. He was very good this last two days. He is only 4 years old and is definately full of energy. Here he is with part of a dinosaur mural I painted in his room. BTW, he does have arms, just had them behind him, LOL!

Sheila , perfectly beautiful child . I love them at that age . They are so receptive to learning everything about what you can find ,just walking and poking and flopping down on your belly in the grass. Me and my son spent his childhood with a stick in our hands , walking the pastures , poking and looking . We spent a lot of time on White Rock lake when he was a little older . We lived right there by the golf course in a trailer park .
Fool4 f , Don't go anywhere without a credit card to rent a car with . That's like mad money when you was a young girl . Don't ask me about American Airlines and Dallas Ft Worth airport . Horror stories .

Okay, I'm cracking up at all these stories. Have any of y'all ever seen any of the "Greater Tuna" plays? Some of these remind me of those. Us Texans are a naturally funny bunch!

We need to start a "most embarassing moment" thing going here. I'm sure that would result in lots of laughs. Just to show I don't mind laughter at my expense, I'll tell one on me.

Ladies, do you know how by the end of the day, your pantyhose are always tending to droop, with baggy knees, etc.? Well, I had an afterhours appointment at a medical facility. I was rushed to get there straight from work, so no time to go in the ladies room and freshen up & adjust pantyhose, makeup, hair, etc. I raced to the facility and my hose were driving me nuts. I got into the elevator, and being the only one in there, decided to jerk those pesky hose back into place. The building was quiet and it appeared most offices had already closed for the day. As the elevator started to rise, I thought nothing about tugging up those hose....until I turned around and realized the back of the elevator was glass and the entire cleaning crew was standing on an upper floor of the atruim waving at me and had been watching me. What could I do, I waved and grinned and found my doc's office!

Okay, next up?

Crow
