i do not envy you your job mibus. what are the wedding colors?
where are all the funny, laughing, giggling people?
Oh, you just wait Barbara, your time is coming.......sooner than you want! LOL
Charlene
P.S.Nana will help though.
sage green and gold are her colors but she isn't sticking firm to the sage green as long as it is a nice shade of green as she is letting the girls get a dress they will use again
Shelly's view is to look at it this way we are having a bbq and they are just happening to get married at it ...LOL
Okay....I have a beautiful wedding story about a SIL and his wonderful MIL........
When my DD told us the date of the wedding, I started collecting. I went to every hardware store I could think of and asked for the old blank keys they had. I carried them to the reception and handed them out to all the men and young boys until I ran out. There were a lot of 'em. When the band took their 2nd break, my nephew jumped up on the stage and announced that since bride was now married, he thought everyone who still had a key to her condo should come forward and just drop it in the bucket on the stage. And they came...old men, young men, and little boys,...and came...and came. Everyone laughed and clapped...
And then DD's maid of honor jumped on stage and said she thought that there must be lots of girls who still had groom's apt. keys so they should come forward also. There was a long pause, no one stepped up, and just as SIL turned and mouthed to his parents...."See, I was a good boy!"...one of the waiters that we'd hired to dress for the occasion waddled out from behind the bandstand and in a feebly, high pitched voice screeched, "Here, take your old key!" and that's when the place went crazy!
Was my second "welcome to our crazy family" of the evening.......
hahahah! From the bride's own mother, no less. hahaha!
Oh that was funny
oh that is too funny I sure wish my daughter was having a bigger wedding with more friends coming that would be a great idea to do
Your daughter sounds like a very smart young lady to me. Dresses from weddings are usually just trashed, because there is not much you can do with them. Having a smaller wedding means more money in the pockets for the couple instead of caterers, planners, etc.
I'm sure with a little thought you can think of something funny that will work with a small group just as much as with a big crowd. Heck, this bunch is full of ideas........??
Charlene
I'd have never done it if DD hadn't okayed it. And everyone knew no one really had a key to her condo , so it just made it funnier. Well, I hope everyone knew that.....
Too funny BB!
Sylvia...You need to read this thread from the top....as they say..
You can't make this stuff up! Sorry Sedric is ill, hope he shows more improvement. That Greg must be getting dementia; putting catfood in the litter pan!! Guess you need to watch him every minute nowl.
That wedding story was a riot.
Mimbus, Your daughter is very sensible in her choices. At least she isn't picking blush and bashful like they did in Steel Magnolias.
ah.............steel magnolias..........what a fine movie that was.
guess who my favorite character was?
weezer. we all loved her
Barbara, when is your get together? We have two weekends in Oct. tied up now. Oct. 4th for NT RU and 17th for ET RU. I have been brainstorming on ideas for sweet EV's palace.
Charlene
charlene no set date. still kicking around how to do it. got some men lined up....with tractors and hammers. but i need yall to come after them. might need yall in nov. thinking about asking yall to come one of 2 weekends. i need to move iris, dl's, perennials, shrubs. and i would love to hear your ideas on princess land.
and all of that has to do with when i have money.
I was thinking of some lattice panels on either side of opening. With some sheer panels of fabric in between. I have four long light blue panels if EV likes blue. Of course she needs a throne (forget the princess bit, let's go for queen!). A couple of places for friends to sit when she holds court.
Since EV is not big on plants, I thought just a couple of vines on the lattice panels.
A few solar lights lining the pathway to the area would be nice. Walmart has some for $4. each.
I envision Sparkling Christmas type lights strung around on the inside.
Since EV is getting to be courting age, it should have a little bit of privacy, yet be open enough so there is opportunity for you to communicate with her without having to go inside.
Charlene
Charlene, you are so imaginative and so kind and generous, we are all lucky to have you around.
Josephine.
Oh that sounds great. Not the first week of Oct., please. I want to be there.
Actually, I want to be everywhere at once it seems.
Christi
Hey, a little off thread topic here. I posted a thread for a Fall College Station round up. I'm getting very little response yea or nay. Only a couple of responders. If you're in the area go post your opinions please. Ok now back to your regularly scheduled yakking. lol
there is no such thing as "off topic" if i'm on a thread. all things are coverable. unlike your insurance plans a mamajack thread can be all things to all participants. my my...mamajack.... what a girl.
my kind of woman
I got a good one!! I've beed telling everyone about my flying pigs because I'm going though bird seed like nobody's business. I filled it yesterday with the last of the bag. It looked like something had been in the bag but I wasn't sure. This morning the bird feeder was empty and open. I just figured I hadn't put it back on right. Wellll, I went out a few minutes ago to get my ornery cat in and something jumped off the box where I keep the bird seed (I'd gone to the store earlier to get a new bag). I looked and it was a juvenile size racoon. I knew I had a possum visitor to my porch but this is the first time I've seen this little one. I'm such a sucker I put some dried up blueberries out for it.
Careful what you start AuntAnne. Have you ever read the Chronicles of Heidi that scutler writes?? She has a family of raccoons that she feeds. She has a lot of neat pictures too. Start with an older thread of hers and read about them. They are a riot and heartache all at the same time. Here is a link to her posts. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/threads.php?user=scutler
Yes, we had to start trapping them and taking them to the wildscape, they were doing way too much damage.
Josephine.
Good job, those raccoons are smart, one even figured out how to open the secure cage.
They are beautiful animals, too bad they cause so much trouble.
Yes, I agree. I love to watch the squirrels play, but when you get a herd of them, something has to be done, We don't like killing them. Right now, we have a "manageable" amount. Now we just have woodpeckers eating the hearts out of the pears! Any suggestions for them?
Not really, I never get any fruit from my trees, except maybe a few pecans, I even stopped planting tomatoes because I couldn't take the frustration, but I can offer sympathy and understanding.
Josephine.
neighbor has two pear trees that just loaded. squirrels eat half of each and throw to the ground. No way to get ahead of them. Same when the pecans are ready and one of the trees is papershell. groan.
My neighbor across the street has a pear tree, they get the pears from him, come across to my yard on the electric wires and drop them in my yard, those guys are mean and wasteful, but they sure are cute.
I'm not "politically correct" when it comes to squirrels. They're just rats with good PR. They are the most destructive rodents in the world. Unfortunately, it's illegal to fire a gun in the city limits of Houston, or I'm afraid I'd have to "relocate" a few of them to squirrel heaven. I've given up on bird feeders and fruit trees. I was about to have a stroke over fighting with the squirrels, so I figured I'd be better off to just give up. I did try putting out "special" squirrel food and some of the corn on the ear that you stick on a special holder. They didn't want that. They much preferred to eat the sunflower seed and what they couldn't eat, they dumped on the ground. Pests! If the economy gets much worse, maybe more people will start eating them again and they'll thin out :) I don't know whether to hope for that or not :(
Crow
I have a friend who came over and watered for me while I was gone on vacation last June. When I returned she said that the birds weren't getting any of the seed because of the squirrels. Well... I love my friend to death but sometimes her elevator doors don't shut all the way if you get my meaning. I'd seen a lot of bird activity but never squirrels. I know they're about but just never noticed a lot of activity from them. So I just said sure and assumed she'd imagined it. This morning while I was watering I heard and thump on the ramp in front of the house and looked up just in time to see a squirrel jump from the bird feeder to the ground. Darn I hate eating crow. Looks like my porch has become a very popular feeding ground.
I am on your side Crow. DH shoots 'em with his airgun. Not strong enough to kill them so then he has to finish it. Made him stop. I want them dead and gone but not like that. They are bushy tailed rat and as you say, do a lot more damage.
gee maybe I should see if DH wil let me rent out Harley the german shepard and let all y'all rent her for a short time to help teach the squirrels to stay away from your places she chases up the tree and lays at the bottom and they don't come back for awhile LOL
will have to ask him when I get home just spent all afternoon and evening in the airport here in Houston helping get the AFS kids coming in set up for the next flight to their host families and some to the hotel for the night
Thanks for the offer, Phylis, but we don't need the land mines. That's one thing I don;t have any more, since the electric fence keeps the deer out, and also the big dogs that would plant land mines right in the middle of my plants!
I have a 75 pound boxer named Islay (Eye-lah). She's so fast that she not only chases them but can catch them. I don't think a huge vet bill and injured dog would be worth having her do further squirrel patrol. She caught one and I saw it sailing through the air and that was the last time she was allowed out to chase them. Those critters have some long sharp teeth and I don't want them used against my little lap doggy!
Crow, she is adorable! We just lost our last dog, but she and the others gone on before her chased the squirrels for years and we didn't have a problem. After loosing the dogs and her not being active at 14 yrs old, the squirrels ran amuck last year. Finally we got a humane trap from Tractor Supply $30 (for two actually). We caught two possums, and 21 squirrels taking them off to a wooded city owned park per the human society. There they have the foxes, hawks and other animals to entertain.
Wow Sheila, that was a good price for those traps, and you did catch a lot of them, what did you bait them with?
Sheila, we have a dog that we just rescued that needs a home. He is mostly lab. He is very gentle and well behaved. Due to already having three dogs, we are hoping to find him a home. We have taken him to the vet and he is heart worm free and had his first shots.
He stays outside in the daytime. He really roughs it out there. We have a 20 foot shade cloth tunnel with a swimming pool and a misting hose for him. My daughter brings him inside at night. He sleeps with her and her other two dogs.
He is roughly about 6 mos. old. He loves to play and so far has not chewed anything but his chew toys. We love him, but we just have too many dogs to keep him.
Charlene
Josephine... That is their regular price. It has a small squirrel size and a raccoon size one. We have also caught some ferrell cats in them. We baited with moist catfood on the possum and with shelled pecans on the squirrels. We put a small piece of pecan just inside the door and the rest past the trip plate. We caught three a day sometimes.
Charlene... We don't want to get a dog at this time. We were waiting for this one to pass on before doing some traveling. We have been retired about a year and half now, and never went on a vacation because of the dogs. After a while we may get a small Silky or other that can be a lap dog. Don't care for the big ones myself. Love all dogs, but prefer the smaller ones. Labs are sweet, and I am sure you can find it a great home.
