i would like to know if the planting seeds are as dangerous as the sprouting beans? i want to plant these beautiful plants but just want to make sure if i should be careful handling the planting seeds. thank you, ernie
castorbean
The seeds are poisonous, but as long as you wear gloves when handling them and wash your hands afterwards you should be fine.
i never have wore gloves with castor beans. just wash hands after.
I've never grown castorbeans but my mom decided to try this year. Is there some part of the plant that is poisonous?
All of this plant is poisonous. ( I think the seeds are the worst?) It is the source for ricin poison. I started some seeds this year b/c I fell for the purple-leaved variety. So far, the seedlings are still only 4-5" tall and have only 2 or 3 leaves. I thought it would grow much more quickly than it has. If these don't work out, next year I think I'll try a paper plant instead. Similar look but less toxic.
