I have lost this plant over the winter. It was happy in its little spot for five years, then poof! It's dead. All nursery people are trying to sell me an annual called "Love in a mist," which is not remotely similar to the plant I am seeking.
My grandmother and mother both grew this plant. It has woody stems, grows in a low mound and loves rock gardens. The only thing about it that resembles a flower is a tiny white "pod" that appears from time to time. There is no stem or upright stalk that bears the pod/bloom. The leaves are very delicate and fernlike, thickly clustered and silvery blue/green, as opposed to yellow/green.
Could anyone help me come up with a botanical name for this so that I may get my nursery to order one for me.
Thank you.
Love in the mist (heirloom perennial) - not Nigella
What you describe reminds me of this. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/54941/
