cucumbers with only female blossoms

Rochester, VT

Does anyone have any experience with the cucumber variety Little Tyke? I bought them from Pine Tree and although the are growing well they have not set fruit despite over 2 weeks of flowering. I have not had a single male blossom on the 2 plants and nothing will set. I do not think it is environmental as the plants are in a hoop house where tomatoes, peppers and zuchini have all set fruit. Any advice would be great. Thanks Joe

I don't often grow picklers and have no experience with that cultivar, It is widely vended as an extremely early pickling cultivar, touted as very prolific. No mention is made that it is gynoecious. It may be that only patience is needed for the males to appear. Many of the newer hybrids were developed to be predominantly female but have enough male flowers to insure fruit set.

Joe, Tomatoes don't need bees to set fruit (they are wind pollinated), and I am guessing that peppers don't either. Zuccini would need a pollinator, so I assume bees or other pollinators are getting to them somehow in your hoop house. If you don't have bees or another pollinator such as ants, you will not have cucumbers. Perhaps your cucumbers need another type of cucumber to provide the male blossoms for your "Little Tyke" to set fruit.
