Debra, what is that pink & white flower? Post #6748399

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

That's Lantana, Bandetta Rose I think it is called, Dons' was huge last year and I kiped some seeds from him.. his plant is about three feet or larger round now.. he overwintered his..in his greenhouse. I started the seeds in February. I love lantanas, I collect them.
this is from Rita, I have no clue as to its' name..

I had a great find at a plant sale yesterday! I wanted one of these for a long time. Echinocactus grusonii as identified by the helpful folks on the cactus forum.

Hey JW...the spotted trunk does look like some sort of Amorphophallus

Joeswife, it is so good to have you back, and to see how well your garden is doing.
That plant might be a xanthosoma sagittifolia. It is looking so good.

JW- your Iochroma is beautiful. I have tried growing it but without success. What do you use for soil.

Placenciarita, Your spider lilies are gorgeous. One of my favorite bulbs.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

The Iochroma is like the brugs, it's a heavy drinker and feeder. In the South Heat it likes half day sun. I imagine in the Northwest it can do well in full sun. I planted mine on the S.W. Corner of the house, and was surprised when it grew to over 10 feet.

A friend of mine wrote an interesting article about them
http://neotropicals.com/2008/12/01/iochroma-cyaneum-indigo/

at the bottom there is a link to the us dept of agriculture..which I found interesting.

Mine grew to 8 ft last year in 3/4 sun on the north fence in Kansas, all the plants I have going are cuttings from overwintering.. the picture I posted is a very small cutting from a bloom tip last year, and it is in regular soil, ( alot of clay here) in a tall pitcher planter under the umbrella on the patio, the others are now in my two corner barrells as last year it grew to the neighbors side as well and it was a bugger to get out of the ground, as they do not live here over our winters.
Rita your spider lillys remind me of my peruvian daffodils I had this spring.
RJ I have missed your articles. Sunshine, it is my pleasure to send you some seeds or cuttings of the lantana this fall. If anyone wants any crossandra "tropic flame" please let me know as I have about 60 plants now. Today we went to the botanical gardens here in Kansas..
this oleander tree was about 15 ft tall and very intoxicating.. my DD laughed at me because at one time I told her I wanted to grow it to make tea with...
I googled voodo lilly and if that is waht I have, it has to go somewhere else LOL

Joeswife, thanks for sharing your day at the botanical garden with us. Those were great pictures. I will steal the idea from the last picture, putting the different color foliage into the same pot.

I'm better, but the healing has begun and it's itchy itchy itchy.

Yes I finally heard from Patty too.

Buffalo, NY

Well guys I took a big leap of faith today and divided my Alocasia mac. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep all of them or only the youngest and chuck the rest. These things are heavy :) It took about 45 minutes to get them all separated. You'll notice my size 10 shoe next to the oldest of them for a bit of perspective. These also my be my last pic's as my unemployment has run out and I don't know if I'll be able to keep things going. Lord knows I would love to work, but it's finding a job that's the problem. :( And wouldn't you know it, my brugs and iochroma are going to be blooming soon.

And one more. Maybe LariAnn would have a suggestion as to what I should keep :)

Well I did a big oops and because I've been missing in action, I missed this thread entirely. I've been reading Thread #42 and I noticed it was getting long so I started a #43 before I realized there was already a #43.

Here's the thread I started this morning. I would have edited it and made it a #44 but I can't or I don't know how.

Sorry everybody . . . .

Patty
