Texasbigleaves, awesome plants!!!
Is AEAE bananas edible? just curious.

Dallas, TX

Sunshinesw,
I think so but mine have never lived long enough to flower.
Maybe these two,will.
I love these bananas but are hard too keep alive.
For me any way.
A few years ago i had two that were 10 - 12 ft. tall.
With in a week they both rotted in the middle and died.
These are numbers 11 and 12, hope they will live
longer than the rest. Just too expensive !

Rj, I read your blog, thanks for doing all the research work for us. I hope that it will also keep the wasps away as well. They got me good yesterday.

Kimarj, they seem to be identical. Black Death is easier for me to remember. The bloom on it is very pretty.
The sun is schorching the leaves on my plants. I will have to put up shade cloth, It has been awfully hot here in Texas for a while now. How is your Tropical Garden coming along?

Sunshinesw, I would like to see you doing the Mango Dance, they do look good. I could never eat just one mango,
3 or 4 maybe.
I was doing the wasp dance yesterday, I disturbed their nests while on a 6 ft ladder. I didn't know that I could still move that fast.

Texasbigleaves, you can send me a small AEAE to see if it gets bananas.
It's security for you. LOL just kidding but I'll be happy to keep some for you if you like. I just cut down about 30 plantain trees and I have about 30 more( I've been chopping babies with machete just to keep them from multiplying), I've been giving away bunch of plantains but I want something I'll enjoy eating so I got an Ice cream banana pup from my garden buddy. I have a lady finger pup coming from a trade also.
The worst problem I have is I can't dig out the roots so I can plant my Ice cream banana. My DH thinks I am crazy to cut all 30 plantains down and plant some more bananas. ; ) He is too busy to offer me help. : (
Sooooo I get it done one of these days.

Rita, be careful! I got stung last year, my foot swelled hugeeeee and discolored my foot for a long time even after swelling went down.
Great photos BTW.

RJ, you write such nice blogs.

Nice red brom I got from my garden friend.

Addenium seed pods, I've never tried to sow addenium seeds.

White Crepe Myrtle I think. I received this plant as Rangoon creeper last year on a trade. I don't know if I should train as a tree or keep it as bush.
I've seen some straggly looking trees. Any suggestions?

Here is a strange plant. Senecio....?

Growing adenium from seed is easy and rewarding, give it a try!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Rita, how is that Jerry has ae's and you don't...hmmm...LOL..
The reason why ae's are so rare is 9 times of 10, separating a pup from the parent plant kills the parent, which is why we don't see them all over the place like other nanners.

Ohhhh!!! I see.

Hey guys does anyone have any Colocasia 'Jack's Giant' that I could snag a pup from :)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

is there a latin name?

I love these tacky flowers. The bigger-the better. I can't believe they are blooming in our 106 degree temp.

This is the first year for growing Colocasia esculenta ‘Elena.’ Growing in pot-full sun and in 100-106 temp. Overhead watering twice a day. Really pleased with the growing in the heat and abililty to with stand high temps.

It's colocasia esculenta 'Jack's Giant' RJ :) I have several Colocasias and Alocasias and I was hoping to get Jack's Giant, but a problem happened so I'm looking around now :)

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Planter56 are you referring to the ee I posted? I believe you may be mistaken, if you are saying it is Jack's Giant. It is lime green with a red spot in center. I purchased it from Logee's.

Barbara, no..Planter was asking if any of had Jacks Giant. I thought may be I did..but am not sure..why would a gardener know what kind of plants they have?! LOL

I remember that name esculenta...was thinking of the upper ones in this photo

This Papaya tree is now officially the largest and oldest I've ever had. It's probably 6 years old now, almost lost in the freeze we had 3 years ago, which is why it has two tops now. When it began to recover it grew several tops, but I pinched off all but two. It's so tall now I have to get a ladder to pick off the papayas.

Sunshinesw, I love that Bromeliad from your friend, remember me when you get a few babies to trade. I think that your Senecio plant is very interesting also. You have so many unusual plants.
Thanks for the wasp warning, believe me, I am doing my best to stay away from them. I have enough trouble with the fire ants and mosquitos.

Planter56, I think that Rj photo looks more like a Colocasia Jack's Giant than my noid.
I will be happy to send you a start of this one if you like it.

Rj, quit teasing me because I do not have a AeAe like you and Texasbigleaves. If I did not have a DH putting a limit of $150 when bidding on e-bay I would have one.
That is a very tall papaya tree.
I do have a fruit on the papaya tree from seeds that you to sent me, unfortunately the strawberry papaya that phughes gave to me died. I'm looking for a replacement.

This is part of my yard. Last years picture. This year due to long cold wet spring and now two weeks of temps of over 100 degree temps nothing is growing and I have lost several plants even with watering 2 times a day. My elephant ears are curling around edge and are burned. So I have to look at my last year photos.
