Weird Weather of '09 #12

Gaaah. Okay, just after I posted my "letter", the sun came out. It was lovely. After a couple hours I started to get warm, so I changed into shorts. Half an hour passes, and now we have a thunderstorm complete with torrential rain.

I'm beginning to think this is personal.

My husband is a Lakota pipeholder, which isn't exactly a Shaman, but it's the next best thing. He's going to try to work some mojo for me before my garden is completely destroyed.

Looking down on the big bed from the rec room window... my petunias and geraniums are battered flat. :(

Now is a good time to go into the garden and cut everything back and give all a dose of fertilizer. When the sun comes back everything will grow quickly and spring back to life. No kidding. If you hate to cut back petunias and such, this is a good reason to do so and you will be glad you did. We also had a great thunderstorm and downpour today. Now everything is nicely watered. ^_^

A Lakota, AHemmmm I am a Cherokee A half breed other half german and Irish.

He's not Lakota by blood. (He is part Native American, but I can't remember what tribe) Lakota is his belief system though, and he studied with a Shaman to become a pipe holder.

He went out into that raging storm and did a prayer for the rain to stop, and shortly after that it did. Whether there's a connection or not, I don't know... but I'd like to think there is. :)

Pony....this is sounding serious, so sorry you are getting so much rain. Nice tip from Willow. We're cool, but no rain and the forecast is for 90 by Monday. Yuk.

Edit to say.....be careful how you treat that man!! LOL

LOL Sally! Lucky for me he is a gentle soul. Heaven knows I would have given me a whammy or two by now if I were him. hehehe. ;)

I have a dog that is a descendant of the dogs of the PNW tribes. It's hard to tell which tribe exactly. I got her from a Blackfoot near Grants Pass who has brought these dogs back from near extinction. She is the smartest dog and has many characteristics of a coyote. Many of the dogs from this breeder (who also breeds Peruvian Paso horses on his ranch) are trained to be guide dogs. indiandogs.com if you're interested. These dogs are very special and I am privileged to have one.

Those are awesome dogs. I've visited that site before, it's very interesting.

It is interesting and I love my dog. Her photo is on the website - 4th photo down - she is the brown one lying down next to the standing black dog. Notice my dog's eyes - they are so intelligent. Her name is Kokapelli, Koka for short. She was named by the breeder and I didn't get to choose, he matches dogs with people. There is a roundup every year for people who have gotten dogs from this breeder and this year it will be with the group who trains the Angel Guide dogs.

Koka is a wonderful companion and you might think I'm crazy, but she has a sense of humor.

Just got back from the fishing trip in Northern BC and found the results of that downpour you are all talking about. Now everything that was standing tall a week ago is laying around and moping. My phlox got really tall with the warm spell we had had and so are really sprawling now. Guess I will be doing more tying up than weeding this week. Glad you all will understand when you get here at roundup.
Pony, RJ, Lynn, Pixy, and I all need some good sunshine for the next couple of weeks. Help!

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Funny how so many of us have links in one way or another to Native American cultures. I am some part Blackfoot Souix, although you could see it much stronger in my father than you can in me.

I will say I am sorry to all of you that had an overcast and rainy week. I would feel guilty if my wishes for cool wet weather for the week that my DH had to take care of my yard and pots had anything to do with it! Came back to a washed out road and smashed down flowers, but at least nothing was fried!

Next time wish a little softer, wouldya? LOL! ;p
