Pony - See post 6885378 above for the info.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Ah- thanks. I had seen the post but missed the site name. Good prices, but still out of our range at the moment. Hopefully we can get one before next summer.

(Judi)Portland, OR

Maybe they will go on sale in a month or so. I hope you are able to get through the heat ok and are not suffering too badly. I am making myself give up using any other thing that requires electricity since I feel like I'm using more than my share, so I actually used a broom and swept the floor. And guess what - it's more pleasant and easier than the vacuum!
I picked some little Sun Gold tomatoes and popped one in my mouth and yuck! It had a fermented taste, and a little like canned tomatoes. Those little things cooked on the vine! They are mushy and the skin has absolutely no resistance at all. Enough heat Mother Nature!!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I have to show DH that A/C ...... we need one of those!!!

Eugene, OR

Good to see you got some relief Judi....boy that was quick delivery.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

We are all are having a melt down LOL I'm used to hot weather but this takes the cake. Getting to work and walking in to a furnance, Our AC went out, sold out of fans so had none to post around the store. Thought I was going to die.
My creek has dried up, my sorce of water for my yard. And the well is very low.
Dogs are fine Ester has her pool and Tyler plays with the frogs in the mud of the creek. He won't get in the pool.

The best part was getting in my car to go home, have AC then a 2 hour wait. LOL some one just shoot me, get to do it again in AM

(Judi)Portland, OR

Tills will your AC at work be fixed soon? Than must be miserable. Anyone know a rain dance to get the creek filled?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I will ask Dusty if she knows any rain dances....she knows and does a lot of her tribal dances...

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Thanks to everybody for you good wishes for my DH. I brought him home today. They did the angiogram and decided there is nothing more they can do for him so they told him he's going to have to take it really easy from now on. It will be very hard on him to slow down, but I found a couple of students that want to park a RV on our acreage and help out here and there. I think it will work out really well.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

That sounds like a good idea, Beth. I hope he takes it easy and feels better.

I apparently got heat exhaustion today after going back out to run an errand this afternoon. Sick as a dog, dizzy, fever, freezing/shivering at 82 degrees. Trying to drink water, but it makes me feel sick again. Yay.

I'm really glad the severe heat is supposed to be over now. I couldn't even water my plants this evening. I hope they'll forgive me. The Tagro soil has been staying nice and moist through the heat, so they'll probably be fine.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

Pony, if you are seriously dehydrated it can cause nausea and make it difficult to get fluids in. I've had this happen and have learned the hard way. You have to take tiny, tiny sips of something like Gatorade or Recharge, wait 10 minutes and take another tiny sip. Keep it up like that over several hours. If you feel really sick or still can't keep any fluids down, call for help, consulting nurse, or if really bad and you are feeling faint or blacking out 911 is there for a reason. I guess if you are typing and able to post here, you are most likely okay, but I am a worrywort when I hear someone doesn't feel well.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm eating ice chips now, it's easier on my stomach than regular water. Wish I had some gatorade, but not going to drive in the dark for it. (night blindness)

I am slowly feeling better, so no worries. Thank you for the concern. :)

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Pony, do take care....liquids a little at a time....we do worry.....and DO call 911 if there are problems...I have friends who are medics and they much prefer to get a call and find that they are not needed than to find someone didn't want to bother them when they really could have helped....Take care....

I had a mild case of heat stroke a couple nights ago. During the commute, I sat in road construction for 20 minutes - you'd think I'd had a clue - all the other cars had their windows up & AC on.
When I arrived home, the house was too hot (closed up all day - 99°), and since I was focused on the dogs, did not evaluate the way I started to feel. My decision not to use the AC in my car was foolish.
I had a severe bout of heat stroke many years ago - it should be taken seriously.
We will be purchasing some type of AC unit - probably the larger version like Judi has. It's available if & when we need it - I don't believe it is wise to compromise one's health.
Tonight is finally cooler. I have taught both dogs the word "cool" - Amber (lab) knows it means the frozen towel treatment. For Ruby it means taking a nap in the car with the AC on. She kept pushing me with her nose toward the car & then waiting by the car door, tail wagging & doggie smile plastered on her face!
I also lost my appetite - not hungry, just thirsty. Forcing myself to eat fruit & nuts the past few days. But I do have a flank steak on the BBQ right now - I'll eat tomorrow.

(Judi)Portland, OR

Now don't laugh, but Pepsi and potato chips helps.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Trisha. I have family nearby if I get worse again. My MIL called everyone in a panic to tell them all to check on me... my phone's been going crazy. LOL

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Judi - is this your Rx?
Any chance of substitutions? - I don't like either. Oh! how about tonic water & tortilla chips? =:0) Well, salsa, too. And grilled chilis. cheese......hungry now - thanks!!!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

ROFL! Pepsi and potato chips? Don't have anything like that, but I have read that salty snacks help, so it makes sense. :)

(Judi)Portland, OR

A banana (potassium) and salted tortilla chips (sodium) - or orange juice (potassium) and something salty like pretzels. How can you not like potato chips???

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

I dunno! Never have...and my heritage is Irish-german!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I actually love potato chips. I just haven't got much of anything on hand 'cause I'm broke til the 1st. Might have some popcorn, that would cover the salt part.

BIL just texted that he's bringing me gatorade in the morning on his way to work. :)

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

ROFL now he texted that he's bringing it tonight. With potato chips. Hahahaha!

(Judi)Portland, OR

Just don't eat the whole bag!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Judi we are on the list, Who knows I did not get a call back as to when.

Got to keep them fluids and food going, no mater if you are hungry or not. Body needs fuel just like a car LOL. Wet towel on back of neck helps a hole lot.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh forgot this when body breaks down it wants salt, Why I don't know.
I know in the hot store I wanted chips and lots of water

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

It's not that I haven't been eating - bananas & nuts have been standard fare, with trips to the orchard at dusk for blueberries. But I lost my appetite! I normally have a very healthy appetite, LOL - but nothing looks good in the heat. I'm thinking that over-the-top Nachos might work. Tomorrow.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm headed to bed, with a cold sandwich and chips
So Hot and very drained.
Hugs all

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Gnight Tilly- hope you can sleep well.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Beth, I'm glad your husband is back home. I'm sure it's nice to have him there!

Katye, LOL at your dog wanting to get back in the car. Tooo cute.

Off to have some pepsi and chips now...

(Judi)Portland, OR

Tills - the reason for salt cravings is simple - fluid follows sodium. And Katye, my appetite is reduced during hot weather as well and I only want cold fruit and salad. I think most people feel like that and in the winter want soup and stew. Another good drink when you're dehydrated is icy cold tomato juice. Yum. And margaritas with salt on the rim and tortilla chips. Can you imagine being a pioneer woman in a covered wagon with long skirts and petticoats and boots? No fans, no baths, no ice cubes???

By the time you guys are done there won't be a bag of potato chips to be found in the state of Washington.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

The chips and gatorade didn't set well with me. Sad, 'cause they sounded soooo good. Only managed to eat a handful and drink maybe 8 oz before I had to give up.

Still eating crushed ice... seems to be the only thing I can handle. :-/

I'm so glad the forecast isn't showing any more triple digits, still gonna be too hot though. Wish I could place an order for a nice 75 or so...

(Judi)Portland, OR

Another good thing to have on hand is Pedialite, which is an electrolyte replacement fluid for babies and kids. It comes in popsicle form as well and of course you would need to have more than a little kid. When I got really sick in Sweden the doc gave me a tin of electrolyte tablets to dissolve in water and that really did an amazing job. Nothing here like that.

Feel better!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Judi. If I can't manage food by this evening, I'll ask somebody to get me some pedialite. I really don't want to have to go to the doctor for IV fluids etc. Yuck.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

cooler today - it's 82° at my house, and the breeze is back. Had the dogs in & out of the airconditioned car - worked well. Being able to sleep soundly last night greatly improved my appetite - woke up hungry.
I forgot to add that I was eating cukes, too. They are cooling to the system, and sit well in the tummy. same for the melons - but I thought it was too hot to go ANYWHERE, except to the shade. So there was no venturing out to the grocery store.
I'm glad I took today off from work - I can water & trim & make a valiant attempt to catch up.
Hope you're all cooler today!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

AC was fixed today "YA" Took most of the day for the store too cool down, but the air was moving.
I don't think I could of made it thur another day like that. Thank goodness it is cooling down some.

I found warm water works real good on a hot day.

Eugene, OR

High today was 93. And can you believe it...............now we have Thunder Storm Warnings!! For the next week!!!

Eugene, OR

Talking Rain and Rice Crackers for me. And no appetite in the heat, Dh never loses his appetite..... unfortunately.

Glad they got the a/c going at work Tills, that must have been awful.

The dogs using the car a/c........I can just picture that!!! ROFLOL

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Sally, sympathy!!! What is it about men and their stomachs? Mom says that I am as close to a guy as I can get because when my system is empty, it is EMPTY!!!! and needs food...but it doesn't hit the empty point when it is this darn hot! DH on the other hand....

We were without power last night for several hours, and that meant not only no cooling, but no water as we are on a well. BIL was over, and so we had the choice of using the generator to run TV and the stove, or water and the A/C. TV and food won, so not only were my plants crisping and the house unbearable, but I was toiling over a hot stove. Good thing I love them both dearly! At least we got power back before total dark so I could water the things that were totally desperate!

T-storms sound great! Have been watching the clouds surround our mountain for the entire week and have been crossing my fingers. Wish I knew a rain dance...note to self for something to learn over the winter......

So love the visual of the doggie asking to go into the car a/c. Funny how quickly they "get" the idea of things!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I can just picture the Dog wanting to go to the air conditioned car!!! Mine barks at me and wants to go next door to Mom's and lay on her covered cement patio!!

Julie I am with you on the Rain Dance...... I too have been watching the clouds....I am from the Texas/OK Border and I really do miss the Thunder storms!!!! It would be hot, you would watch the clouds and you could smell the rain coming long before it arrived..... I am beginning to wonder if we are going to get any rain at all this summer....

And am I ever looking forward to this weekend....NOT....they are having a going away party for one of my DH's employees at our house....has been too hot to clean house, we don't have A/C.....and it sounds like we are going to have a wonderfully hot weekend since the leader for the News at Eleven was "Cooler today...don't get used to it"....just what I needed to hear!

Got my "Two Wash Tub" water feature cleaned out today and moved back on the patio so it doesn't get so much sun during the day....should make the two little fish in there much Happier....also the little frog that lurks in the area....wanted to get a picture but he hid really fast...guess that is how he has survived out there for so long. I think all the extra plants I got recently is the only thing that kept the poor fish from boiling until now....the last few really hot days I tilted one of the lawn chairs over to shade the tub and keep most of the sun off it during the worst part of the day. At least we don't have to pay water here so I can keep things watered down pretty well.

(Judi)Portland, OR

I dread seeing my water bill.......
