Beetroot

Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom

Well I'm a newbie beetroot planter.

I planted them a while go, they all suddenly shot up with all the rain we have been having. I am just wondering how can I tell they are ready or big enough? I know I can dig them up I was just wondering is there any other way, and roughly how long do they take?

thanks :)

Most times, they grow with the top part out of the ground. So you pull them when they are large enough for your use. Anywhere from baby beets to maybe baseball size. Most cultivars will get tough and woody as they age (get too big)

Brilliant thank you, I have one above the ground but it only looks like it's an inch in diameter at the moment.
