Yes Sir, follow this tread Yellow ...Tomato Leaves - Under or over watering?
ok read the post. here is my planter http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6642809 . now the box is just sides i did not put a bottom on it so it is resting on the floor. i figured since the sides are not sealed to the floor water would run off the sides. do you guys think this is enough drainage?
Probably yes to the drainage issue but you might want to drill some holes along the very bottom just to be sure. Also depends on the growing medium. I hope it isn’t just potting soil.
If it has been rained on recently, dig down and see if the soil is mushy-wet. If so it could be not draining fast enough or the soil is acting like a sponge and holding excessive water.

i used peat, perlite and garden soil. i will check the soil like u suggested
Not sure about NY weather but your mixture sounds good. An hour or so after a good soaking rain you should have moist/wet dirt. If it is soggy it’s holding too much water for too long.
