I planted some strawberry and lavender seeds at the end of April here in Florida. They were seeds that can be bought from buzzyseeds that came in a tiny container and were a present someone gave me. I planted 10 seeds, but only 4 made it for the strawberry and only 1 for lavender. Neither of them are looking too healthy. The strawberry's leaves are turning a slight yellow. I'd like to move them to a container with better drainage but they are only a little over 1/2 inch tall. Can I still move them? It's very very humid here. Is there anything I can do to help them? The lavender doesn't even look like the right thing. It just doesn't look right. It's also barely 1/2 inch tall. The other seeds from the same company that I planted at the same time (Love in the mist) are doing great and growing like crazy, but I'm concerned about the others. Anything I can do? This is the first time I attempt to grow anything so I'm clueless. Thanks!
Help with seedlings
If they are having a drainage problem, don't get the seedlings overly wet.
I thought that might be the reason. But I'm not sure. So when should I water them? I water when the soil looks dry which is every other day to every two days. Is that too much? too little? Is that how fast they should be growing...1/2 inch in a month and a half? Just curious. Thanks!
Sounds a bit slow for this time of year in Florida; this is rapid growth season. Are you feeding / fertilizing the plants yet? What material are you using to start the seeds in?
I'm growing them in the stuff that came in the package. It was a soil pellet that you put in a small amount of water and grew to the amount of soil that fit in the pot. I am not using fertilizer since it said not to at the time. It said to add fertilizer when transplanted after reaching 3 inches. At this rate the summer will be over before they reach 2 inches. Should I add anything right now?
If they have been too wet, they may be starving. Try giving them a liquid fertilizer at half strength.
If you were only wanting a couple of plants, you may get those kind of herbs cheaply and already established at a local nursery.
Too start seeds more efficiently, you might get the seed fresh from a garden store; get pots and planting medium, and start them the traditional way.
