My father years ago bought me 2 of these Tree's and I can not recall the name of it .. I have added a pic of the leaves .. Can anyone please tell me what the name is of this Tree?? I simply love the leafs on it ..
Thanks Brenda
What Is This Called
Looks like a Thuja
Try looking in the Plant Files under that name.
Looks like arborvitae.
Definitely arborvitae. There are many kinds, Thuja belongs to that plant family and gets very large. Plant files may help you narrow it down.
Yes, I agree arborvitae. I have a few bordering my backyard, large tree like specimens. The deer love them. Mine are now pruned (by deer) to look like lolli-pops! ...lol
We have this too...we have a pair on either side of the garage. They are very overgrown. Can they be pruned?
I looked at PlantFiles, but I don't know how I'd find aborvitae there, except by going through page after page. I can't use the search feature (not a paid member).
You can do searches without being a subscriber, but you're limited to 10 per day and you can only use the specific & general searches not the advanced one. Here's the specific search page that you can use 10 times a day: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php Either put Arborvitae in the common name field or Thuja in the genus field and it'll pull up the ones that are in Plant Files. You don't need to fill in the rest of the fields.
The deer eat everything here - even stuff that is considered
'resistant.' I planted about ten small sized thuja (1.5 feet) and two ~ 4 feet and only one of the 4' got destroyed and that was by a deer I think rubbing its horns. Broken but not eaten.
I had the two four foot trees in large pots for over a year with no browsing.... and then I planted them along with the other newly purchased smaller ones.. --did not research because the original two weren't bothered and the pots were in places the deer gather (my front drive!!) I happened to read after I bought and planted the small ones that the deer love.... so I wept......... and then waited for the destruction .....still waiting and no issues. Go figure.
Hi, I am just starting out on landscaping my yard. I am wondering what kind of bush I could put next to my arbor to give my privacy and be low maintence (no weekly trimming) pruning is ok. The arbor has morning glories that fill it in. Anybody have any suggestions?
Sorry I posted this in the wrong spot.
