We have a retaining wall and then a 6' slope up to a fence between us and a neighbor. Their house is only about 5' back from the fence and looms like a fortress above the fence.
We need something to break up the starkness of the tall fence and all of the stucco above that. We'd like to plant a few trees on the 6' wide slope.
Obviously, the trees can't have roots that would break up the retaining wall. The trees would also have to have branches that don't spread out too widely, or that can be cut back. The trees would get some sun during the day, but not full sun. They'd get less sun in the winter when the sun is low in the sky.
I love the color of the purple-leaved plum trees, or something similar if it works.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
