climbing rose help, please!

(Zone 5b)

Ok I have the very sturdy trellis, and the climbing rose....I put the trellis a foot away from the wall fro circulation, and planted the rose in front of it....then I read that I should tie the canes to the trellis horizontally...I got plant tape...which canes? Any canes? Do I tie all of them? Should I wait till the rose is more established? (I planted a week ago). I have pics.

Lynnie,
You have a great trellis, and have positioned it well. Your rose needs to grow a bit before you start to train it to the trellis. When it starts to grow, the canes that need to be attached to the trellis will be very obvious! Just remember, don't tie the canes tightly, leave wiggle room. I usually do a figure 8 to attach a cane to a trellis, crossing the tie about 2" from the cane, and then attaching the tie to the trellis.
If you got the rose from a local nursery, someone there should be able to help you with your questions.

thank you so much Texas! I wasn't sure if it was something I had to do right away and I understand what you mean about the figure 8...
we had a week of rain after I planted the roses (I planted a couple of double pink knockouts too) but they look ok. So far... lol
