Isn't he the cutest little thing that you ever did see?

Playing hide and go seek. The big one is counting and it's the little ones turn to hide.

Bea....in that second pic I swear Melvin has a smirky grin! Suppose there's been some hanky panky going on? LOL

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Is that Melvin in the second pic? He is wearing a froggy grin. Sweet that he and Penny are having private meetings in their secret hideaway. So there may well be some hanky panky going on, Sally. Beahive will have to let us know if she catches them in the act! LOL!
Laughed at the hide and seek photo!. It was too funny.
Thanks, 'cause I needed the laugh!

The second pic is not Melvin. It is one of my new babies that my daughters BF brought me. He does have quite a smirk on his face. Maybe he just ate a good juicy bug!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

You know that you are getting to know someone's frog when you start recognizing them. Any news on the mating of Melvin and Penny? Or is it too late in the season?
Love your frog friends, Bea! : )

That's kinda of a personal question to be asking Penny and Melvin. What happens in my pond stays in my pond..LOL!!

One of the new residents in my pond.

LOL! Didn't mean to pry! Thanks, I needed that laugh!
Your new frogs are just as personable as your home frogs. Saw one, no two today. One was a tree frog I disturbed while moving some pots. The other was a toad who lives out by the pond. He didn't like me watering the petunias. LOL! Saw both of them hop. Tree frog hopped farther than the toad. Wonder if it is their size?
What ever happened to Salsa? He head South?

I never saw Salsa again. I think he went under the fence and back to the neighbors yard. They will be moving in a few weeks and their house is will be vacant until it sells. Maybe he wil get lonesome and come back over to my place.

Another new one who is a bit stout!

Well if he's your prince, he'll need to shop at the Men's Big & Large store. LOL! Too cute, he reminds me of Chubby Checkers. Lets do the twist! LOL!
Sorry to hear about Salsa. I kind of hoped he get fatter, but was fond of him anyway.

ROFLOL......a BIT stout? I can see frogs in a whole different way with your pictures. I can't get close enough to mine, they're usually hopping away from me watering.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

That's why I picked up that one. Found one clinging to the underlip of a planter today. Silly froggy!

My little chubby friend has seem depressed. He is keeping to himself for a few days now.
Here he is looking sad on 7/6.

Today he did not look happy at all. In fact he looks like he is worried about something. Maybe he just a heavy thinker.

How about he is meditating? Maybe he needs a significant friend.

Some of my shasta daisies behind the pond got knocked down with the winds we had yesterday.
Slim was evaluating the situation and looking for his prunining sheers.

This wee one seemed a bit freaked out with the sprig of parrots feather stuck to his side.

I think he is using the flowers in the first photo for an umbrella.
The second definately looks confused.
Thanks for the laugh, Bea.

Love the froggy adventures Bea!

Here is one of the newer frogs living in my pond. She is resting her head on a pot after a hard day of swimming and catching bugs.

This one was grinning ear to ear about the nice weather today. Need to get in the pond and trim the dead lily pads!

Can you find the three fogs in this picture? They were enjoying each others company today.

Beautiful Bea!! You have such cute frogs.

Found 'em! You take such good photos of them, Bea.

Funny story - we were puzzled by a verrrrry long orange fence that went in across the highway from us, but figured it had something to do with upcoming construction. Then DH found out it was a toad fence to try to stop the Arroyo toad (protected) from getting out of the river bed and possibly killed on the highway. The businesses across the road said they never saw a toad until the fence went up.

Well, tonight DH came home and told me he saw a gap in the fence and there were hundreds of toads charging through the hole to escape their prison! LOL For a rather staid Brit, he can be such fun sometimes. :-)

Eugene, OR

They apparently have a reason to go where they're going. They need to put up crossing guards for them!! LOL

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

KC, tell DH thanks for making me LMAO, then ROTFLing some more. Too funny! Call the border patrol! Escaping endangered toads! Call PETA!
Seriously, toads are nocturnal. Doubtful that the EPA sent their scientists out at night to do a proper count.
I used to send my boys and their friends out at night with 5 gallon buckets. They'd bring 'em home full of toads. Which is why I know their distress call. Also why I can imagine hundreds of toads making a leap for freedom! LOL!
Bea you do take the best frog photos. I liked them all. The sidestroking frog was hilarious. The contrast of the dead water lily and the frog was sweet! Hard to find that third frog, almost went blind, but I found it! Whoo Hoo!

Look who I spotted yesterday hiding behind some curly rush. It's Salsa or one of his relatives at least.
I think that he is a Red-legged Frog ( Rana aurora)

Penny was MIA for a while, but I spotted her yesterday also hiding behind the taro. This was her spot before she went MIA. Glad she is back.

Good to see your friends are still there Bea!!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

My froggy friends have been hiding from me and they hop faster than I can. LOL!
Here is one for you!

A different view.

I cropped this photo, and boy was I surprised. I only saw the d.fly and the rock til I cropped it. How many froggy's do you see?

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Here it is cropped closer and minus the d.fly.

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

By this photo I had seen the two frogs on the rock. I now see a paw too.

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I wonder why there is such a variation in color? They are about the size of a quarter, and have excellent camouflage.
Sometimes I get lucky with the clarity of a photo and even though this is cropped portion of the previous photo, it sure shows the detail. I will keep practicing until this becomes the norm and not the exception. You can see their bumps!
