I admit it, it was me!
Yesterday morning, as is usual for me I went into the gh to check for Olympic swimmers (frogs/toads) in the pool.
I found this youngster and rescued him.
Thanks for the new thread KC!

From a different angle. Is that a white spot on his face?

I cropped this macro to see his tiny face better.

I found a good place for him to recover from his Olympic swimming exercise. I used to have a live frog that lived in the "water feature/fall" in the gh. I figured it would be a good place for this little fellow to recuperate.
Say Bea. That skinny frog you posted on the macro page wasn't Melvin was it? He sure was skinny.
Great photos, and I for one would like to see more of them. Especially after reading how many have been killed by some kind of a fungus. This has been going on for years, and we need our froggies. How are the frogs/toads in your area?
I get such a loud chorus at night you can't talk outside for all the noise. Well you can talk, but no one can hear you unless you yell! LOL!

SW. I think that spot on your little guys face is a small leaf??? The skinny one I posted earlier was a new frog to the pond. It was not Melvin..much smaller. Yes envionmental factors are really causing declines in the frog populations. I know that my counts are really down since I first put in my pond.I did not hear the long weeks of singing this year as normal.I have seen no tree frogs for two years. I cringe everytime I see neighbors spraying weed killer and the like. It make me crazy! When I can I nicely remind them of the problems all these pesticides/insecticdes etc can cause for our wildlife & our own health.
I heard a frog croaking behind the fence at the "rental" neighbors house yesterday. I do not know them so I hesitated to ask if I could look in their yard for him/her. They have a big dog!
So I just croaked back at the frog trying to coax him over to my yard. There are a few gaps under the fence..so I hope he has joined us!

Bea, it looks like he rubbed his nose up against something. It is not a leaf. I was reading a back issue of Nat'l Geo and the article said that the amphibian decline is caused by a fungus. It really was a good article for any frog/toad/salamander lover to read. It was in their April 2009 issue. Very informative, and lots of photos too! Trying to figure out why KC isn't getting any frog activity. She had so many poly wogs at the Mini RU.
Maybe I need to give her some! LOL!

What a cutie! I've now released 4 little aquarium frogs into my pond area. I am really, really hoping they make it.

I watched a special on the frog fungus hosted by Jeff Corwin. It was quite sobering. Here is some info about it: http://animal.discovery.com/tv/vanishing-frogs/vanishing-frogs.html

Here are the first three little froggies, all ready to go out into the great world beyond the aquarium:

Well, they have a good head start, don't they? And they have cute little paws, too! LOL
What a shame about those disappearing frogs!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

oh how tiny and cute sunny !

I'm so excited, my toad has been busy - I thought one of the kids and dropped barkdust in our small water feature, but on closer look - tadpoles!!!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Trying to play a little catch up before the computer poops out on me again. I found this little fellow yesterday when clearing an area to transplant some seedling. (first of two photos). I saw his little brother today. LOL!

He looks like he got hit with spray paint - interesting color.

Can't blame the painter, since I'm having him use green for the trim on the house. Great camouflage though!

Just had to get a photo showing his face, so I grabbed him. Isn't he cute?

Got this guy to pose for me on the 27th.

Look at those eyes! This little guy lives in the raised planter out in the b.fly/h.bird garden. Too cute!

I found this fat dude hiding in the gh. He wasn't happy when I picked him up. He peed all over me the whole time I was taking his photo.

Seen from above. That's toad pee all over my hand. The things I do for you! LOL!

Thumbnail by SingingWolf

I don't know why he looks so grumpy! I'm the one getting peed on!

Thumbnail by SingingWolf

What a guy! He really had a big bladder. I am so glad it washes off. : )
Last photo of him. I put him back where I found him. Those tree frogs living in the banana are really fast and hard to get photos of, but I'll try.
After all, I let the toad pee on me, just to get you a photo of him. He was big, size of my palm.

Gold Star for going above and beyond SW!! You certainly have some handsome frogs!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Sally, I can just see you sitting there giggling about the frog/toad pee. You were, weren't you! : )
It's okay, it does wash off.

I never cease to be amazed at the different frogs/toads you folks have. Guess we're lucky to have ANY, but it would be interesting to see a different one.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Gosh, and here I thought that Bea's frogs have loads of personality. You do know Melvin has been miserable since he lost Big Mama. I'm really glad that he and Penny seem to have taken a liking for each other. Bea tells me to check out the NW forum, I forget where but she posts a lot of photos on a thread there.
Peeing toads didn't even make you giggle, KC? Especially when I let him do it just so I could show you the big guy. (Sadly shakes head!)
Almost stepped on a tiny little frog today whilst weeding behind the waterfall. Luckily big foot missed tiny toad/frog.
Sally it's okay, I don't mind when people laugh, it's good for the soul.
Too hot to go out right now, so catching up.
KC, did your Tadpoles ever grow up to be frogs or toads?

This is a new little baby that my daughters BF brought me. He sure is cute and does not mind me taking his picture.

Here he is just floating with the current.

Mine pretend that they aren't there, hide from me, and then if I manage to catch one, it pees all over me. Bea gets all these nice frogs. Bea will never turn into the cat lady, LOL, but she'll probably be known as the Frog lady! : ) Just teasing you Bea. Every time I turn around, some one different is bringing your a new frog. I did see a toad today. He was cleverly concealing himself with a thin layer of dirt when I was weeding an area where I wanted to transplant flowers today. He wasn't there a moment later. I missed him hopping away. Sigh, and I didn't even have my camera with me. Sigh.
On well, at least nobody peed on me today! LOL! : )
Thanks Bea for sharing the photos of your new friend. All teasing aside, I like the way you can see the back of his opposing eye in that second photo where he is moving with the current. Pretty good shot! : )
Was beginning to think all the frogs had dried up except the ones in my gh.
Still pretty loud outside at night.

This is one of the tadpole that came last week. Spotted him today doing some algae cleaning on the rocks. It must be scary to be a tadpole. Can't see where you are going and no legs to hop away from preditors.

We don't know what happened to all those taddies, SW. Haven't heard a peep for a couple of weeks. We had a lot of tree frogs around for a while, though. We rarely see them in the pond since they are so little and have so much to hide under/in.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

KC, that is too bad. : (
I hope that you get to see some soon. I hate it when the little buggers hide from me or hop faster than me. : 0
Seriously, I don't hop, I don't even run if I can help it. Like on Wed., when at the Chiropractor's office, some guy (who was in obvious pain), circled the office, finally pulled in and parked. After he had exited his truck, it started to roll. I hollered out a warning, but he couldn't move that fast, and I wasn't going to try. Luckily it didn't do any damage to Dr.'s beloved El Camino. Just kissed bumpers.
I used to live at the bottom of a cul de sac that was on a slope. I can't tell you how many times I opened the door of others cars, hopped in, yanked on the parking brake then went and found the owners. Seems to me they were always at the same house. These days, I wouldn't even try, no matter how slow the vehicle was moving. The door would probably be locked anyway.
Once I was driving down the road, saw a lady pulled up in front her gate, she got out to open the gate. The car rolled forward and knocked her down. Thank goodness, she wasn't seriously hurt. I, being me, was the one of two people who pulled over to help.
The worst thing I ever witnessed while in a moving vehicle was while driving down the 60 fwy, in the Riverside area, when I saw a dog nose open the top door of a camper shell. Then to my horror, he jumped out. We were in the middle (#2) lane and they were in the slow lane (#3).
I told DH, and since he was slow to respond, I reached over and frantically honked the horn, as we were passing them. Meanwhile in the rear view, I see the dog hit the ground on all four paws, then start tumbling down the freeway. The girl passenger realized what was going on, and they were pulling over to get their dog. I only hope he was okay. I'm pretty sure, he lost most of the pads on his feet.
Sorry, I strayed off topic.
KC, I wanted you to know that your Gift Feathers will be going to a lead Gourd Dancer that I know. He will make sure that the right people get them, and I will let him know that you were the gift giver, and I'm just a delivery person. Pechanga Pow Wow this weekend! Woo Hoo! Fireworks Sat. night, and they have the best shows! : D
Bea, also wanted to thank you for sharing your polliwog with us. DH thinks it might be a bullfrog? I just know that mine are always black in color. So thanks for sharing a different colored one. : )
Don't know what I'll be doing this weekend besides the Pow Wow, but I will have my camera and be sure to share photos when possible.
Be well! Have a great Independence Day Weekend!

Glad to hear the feathers will be used to good purpose, SW - I'll tell the birdies!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

No more frog photos for a while. My point & shoot died today. : (
But I can call you and you can listen to them croakers if you want, KC. : )
Have a great 4th of July. Won't be able to get photos at Pow Wow unless I can talk Jonathan into coming with.
