When it's time for our kid(s) to spread their wings -- and be all they can be. I know the feeling that you and Jav is going through ('cause I've been there). Be proud of the young one. She's going to make you proud! Boys, I know it has got to be tough for her little sister left behind. But, there is a season for each flower to show off their glow. Hugs to you and family. Now, go and hug your youngest. ^_^

Ps I may have the snail problem under control now if I can just get rid of the Wasp!!!!! LOL

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Sandy, be careful dealing with the wasps. DH got stung week before last, and that almost send him to the E.R.!
I'm glad to hear the snail problem is under control.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks but to late! I went to the ER!! More of a safty measure. It took a little to long for my pills to kick in and it was safer for me to sit there, thought it was a little scarey for a few minutes there. I now have a liquid allergy meds

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Ouch that hurts! I knew my hubby said it hurts. I'm now more leery of those bees/wasps out in the garden than I was in the past.

Hi lily & Sandy, Sorry to hear about the wasp stings. They can be bad. I have been off line for awhile, cleaning the sunroom windows, and getting ready for a trip to Illinois and California to see granddaughter, and great grandaughter and great grandson. My epi bloomed once more on Monday August 24th and it was one glorious sight -- 9 more blooms. DH was tired from a week of helping me houseclean and I told him not to stay up this time for pics. After he was asleep I sneaked out to the sunroom with my MP3 player, and sat in the dark for awhile, listening to music and singing along with some of it, looking up through the glass roof of the sunroom at the stars and the fireflies, and smelling the wonderful fragrance of the epis. DH got up and said he heard me singing to the plants -- it was one of those magical times. Believe it or not before we left a week ago Thursday on our trip, I could see more buds beginning to form. This will be the 4th flush of this year. How lucky can I be!

Jean, there is some magical thing about this plant. They do make make me quite happy too. Look, some of these began to curve upward. Isn't it a little too early for the flowers to curve up like so, Sandy?

Is that a cactus or a epi?

If she does not have any cuttings I have a lot. LOL
Lin has first chance.

hjmn4566: Beautiful bloom! It doesn't look like the pic's of H. undatus in Plant Files: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/54131/

Your bloom looks more like Epiphyllum hookeri: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/1925/

My Epi. oxypetalum doesn't look too great right now ... I moved it out to the back driveway where it's been getting way too much direct sun so I don't think I could get any decent looking cuttings right now.

Since Wren (whom I like to refer to as Epi Queen because she has hundreds of them) has lots of cuttings, why not do a trade with her?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I would be glad to send you some cuttings, with out a trade as right now I have more plants than I can handle. LOL(maybe going to have surgery on my shoulder)

Send me a Dmail with your Address and I will box some cuttings of the Epi oxypetalum up and send them to you

my epi oxy has about 8 buds on it right now. I'm sure some of them will fall off...

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I think mine is getting to much shade in the shade house.

Oh, Clemen -- I know that feeling well. Seems like yours bloomed about the same time as mine -- missed three blooms while we were away, but got home on Thursday (the 17th) and the last two buds were beginning to open. Took a picture before going to bed and woke up at 2:00 a.m. for the final shot.

You were lucky Jean, YAY for ya!

Well I have quite a few more buds on it, can't believe this babe is going to bloom for the 4th time this Summer...I bet I will miss the blooms though!

Deland, FL & Hot Spr, AR

Thanks Clemen. This has been a great year for epis. See post "Will Tonight be THE night started by Lily_Love. Is she your sister?

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Haa haa, no we are not REAL sisters, only by DGarden's standards...Plant lovers I guess..I love that girl Jean!!!!!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

LOL, did you say that just because you know I'd read your message. Tehehehe. Clemen. Make your confession; that we're truly sisters. lol. Just kidding everyone. ^_^

All joking aside, I missed two 'Hookerii' blooms the last 48 hours due to rain, rain, and more rain. Arrrghhh!!!

Deland, FL & Hot Spr, AR

LOL. Guess we are all sisters! Sorry about missing your blooms, Lily. I have one advantage -- mine are inside, but sometimes even on the inside, I miss my blooms!

(Zone 1)

I've missed four or five hookeri blooms this past week .. just because I've been too lazy to go out in the backyard at midnight!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Well looks like we all missed our nice blooms....Now no excuse if it is raining..lol..

Hey Kim, yes sisters forvever!!!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Hi y;all here lurking. Test tomorrow.

Sandy

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Clemen, ditto. Sandy what test?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

a MRI on my shoulder. I have put up with the pain long enough. My poor epis have suffered this summer. I know it was time when I found that I could not type.

Sandy

New York, NY(Zone 6b)

So sorry Sandy. I know that you put so much time into your epis. Is there anyone near that could help you just for a little while for watering etc?. Maybe a college student who is interested in plants or biology, once a week for a hour or two.
