Jean, that one as shown is in the ground. Usually brug planted in the ground doesn't sprout back until May in my garden, except this one it sprouted back in March. This is its second flush of blooms. The first flush yielded but a few blooms at that time.
I'll share a few more pictures of the Epi Oxy. that were taken at 11:00pm. I went to bed, got a nap, woke back up and took the pictures. Just think, I could have missed all these!

For those of you that are interested, here is a thread on my brugmansias/plumeria in MidSouth.
Another picture of the EO side view:
Congrats KIM!!!! Yep yours was first this year..Well the show was gorgeous..
Now mine will come soon, my plant did not drop its buds and it is LOADED now...Only one of them is huge though, so I know that one will bloom solo...Can't wait!!!
Well, ladies, I think tonight's the night. The tips of several buds have begun to separate. DH has his camera ready and is chomping at the bit and I have my camera ready also. He is worried about things like background, etc., and me, I just point and click.
Well Jean I am waiting..taping toes here, lol!!!! You will have an exciting evening let me tell you..Aren' we nut, He heeeee!
Absolutely certifiable crazy! But ain't it fun? I think my grandmother and mother would be proud of me, however. This plant that I am so in love with is an offspring of my grandmother's plant. It stayed with my mother until she passed away and then my brother took it to live in FL (where it is still residing). My brother had pictures of it blooming for him and now I have cuttings of it in AR. Hopefully I can pass it on to children, grandchildren, or even great-grandchildren (I now have two of them, still babies, though).
Jean
I know I am certifiable crazy!!!!! I am working on plants for a new improved shade/green house. Any one know anything about solar panels. I want one to run a couple of fans in there. It get's way to hot. but I have no trees that would give me enough shade.
That makes it very special...ahhhhhhhhh...well we are waiting for the show...he he he!!
I am still up checking to see if the show started yet, or will it give a great performance tomorrow.
Sorry to keep any of you up last night. This got pretty complicated between phone calls and e-mails regarding a new great granddaughter and my DH aka Perfectionist Phil, we didn't get to bed until 1:30 a.m. and got up after 9:00 this morning. These are my pictures. I will search through DH's and send some of them later. This was taken at 4:08 p.m.
New Great granddaughter! Wooohoooo, now the blooms on these beautiful flower marked the blessing of a new baby!!!! Congratulation to you and yours. Time to party! Happy for you JeanK.
As you all know, the Epi Oxy's bloom doesn't last but that evening in which it opened then closed. This was the same one that I took late at night on Aug. 1st. The beauty is almost mystical to me. The fragrant, is a little bit "spicey" clean almost 'menthol' to it. A fragrant that I don't particularly want to bottle , but aware that's there. lol.
Thanks Lily. Her name is Rowan Olivia and she is cute as can be (looks like her mother). My arms feel like a scarecrow I've been holding this sheet or towel up for what seems like forever. We come up with a plan. This is a fitted sheet. Let's attach it to the hinges on the door. Good. Now I can rest! 11:01 p.m.
Those shots are beautiful!!!
9:30 this morning: They have all drooped and are finished with their show. DH and I are always at odds when it comes to photos. He takes marvelous close-ups with lots of depth of field, etc. I tell him I would like one of the WHOLE PLANT so people won't think I tell them I have seven buds when I only have one, of which I take 7 photos! LOL This premise comes from a fishing trip DH and DS took where they brought back photos, telling me each of them caught 7 and 8 fish respectively. I teased them and asked if it wasn't just the same fish photographed 15 times as I had no proof they caught this many as this was a catch and release lake! Our other DS, who works in advertising has also told us "never believe anything you see."
12:45 this morning. DH's last shot. As I post these, once in awhile, I catch a whif of their fragrance. If we are lucky, there are still more buds coming and if we are even luckier we will get to see them. They are so small, I can't tell whether they are new leaves or new buds. Only time will tell......
Jean
Clemen: Wonderful! Yours should put on quite a show, too. When the first one blooms, then you will be more able to gauge just how the others will start to open. Sorry we cross-posted, however as posted, think one more will open tonight. If I do have more opening, I hope they won't coincide with our visit to the west to see children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. From the first time I saw the little pinhead buds starting, it was exactly 7 weeks until bloom. I don't know if these times vary or not, but mine seemed to take a really long time to open. We had lots of cloudy days and maybe that was a factor. I don't know, but they seem to have a schedule of their own!
Congrat on the grandbaby and the flowers.
Sandy
Thanks, Sandy. Hope your plants come back from the invasion of the slugs and snails. This year, the deer have eaten my hostas, my hydrangeas, my daylilies and various other plants. I can certainly identify with anyone battling the critters.
I'd like to thank Plantladyin for this thread, I'll close out my posting here. Clemen, I hope to see more pictures of yours as the buds develope. Your biggest bud was about the size of one of mine posted on July 27th. Five days later it opened!
Happy gardening everyone.
Jean, I tell you I've had those tiny things showing since my post here in June....It is August now and they are growing..Weird right how some of some develop slow and some faster?? Anyway your show was beautiful and more special was the birth of your new Grand Baby! She is special for sure!
Clemen: Thanks for the compliments on the show and now I begin a new waiting period, that is until we can get out to AZ and see her and also her cousin (boy) born in May. Can't wait to see both of them! Each of our daughters are grandmothers now. Gosh! How did I get so old so fast??????????????
Jean..I do not have grand babies for sure, but hey we all grow wiser..think about that..I am sending my daughter to college in just 3 weeks, and my heart has been aching...Way to go girl!!!! Need strenght here..I bet all of those blooms will open when I am sending her there...that would be a lucky day, just like the birth of your sweet child too ^_^!
congrat, JeanK on both your grandbaby and your blooms! Last night must have been the night for NBC to bloom because I went to my mother for lunch today and she said her neighbor had 7 blooms too!
Lily, great photos. Loved your blooms.
Jean, congratulations on your new grandbaby Rowan Olivia. The blooms are your very own flower bouquet in celebration of the wonderful event.
Watching for yours Clemen. It will be beautiful also.
Ivy
oh, try this. My mom's friend broke her off when they are in full bloom and they were still opened this afternoon when I came to visit.
Ivy..miss you girl.............You will have your chance one day!
Lilli. how did she break them off?? just wondering..ask her to explain..I have that plant at another house so I know I will miss some blooms this year and I am not happy about that..Like today, this bruggie was about to bloom and I abandom her there because of the rain and bad storms...I will not see her doing her thing tonight!
At the very end where the stem meets the leaves.
OK so if I cut one, she will bloom that day and do her thing?
The petals are soft and not as hard as they are on the stem. But they don't close up and droop over. If your flower open up around 9:00pm, I would probably wait until after midnight to pick them. I don't know if it will continue to open once you pick them off. But you will have a chance to show some of your not-up-so-late friends and neighbors the next day. Also, you can still smell the fragrance, but it's not as strong.
I would only do it if I have 3 or 4 blooms. Don't do it if you only have one bloom.
He he, then I will not cut them Lilly...........Maybe I should just bring the plant with me where I live..Although she is in a heavy Malaysian pot and weights a ton..grr...not happy here..
TY for your advise ^_^!
Mine is too big to take anywhere. It is just ouside my sunroom so I will only have to take a few steps to haul it inside for the winter.
