I think my lucky bamboo is dying! Please help!

Devon, United Kingdom

Ive got lucky bamboo which i originally bought in water but then transferred to soil about half a year ago, ive recently noticed that 2 of the 4 bamboos have really long roots thant actually come out of the drainage holes and into the water at the bottom if the other pot and the colour of these two bamboos are REALLY bright emerald green. They are beautiful, But one of the other bamboos had totally lost its green colour and turned yellowish. I took it out of the soil and the roots are not long at all! I figured maybe it wasnt getting enough water as the roots were so tiny so i transfered the stalk into water and its colour has turned even more yellow. Have i totally killed it by transfering from soil to water? I thought it would be a good thing to do so it could get all the water it needed. Please help. Thanks x

For one--the "Lucky Bamboo" is not a Bamboo at all but a Dracena of some sort.

I am glad that 2 of the 4 made the transition to soil. It might be just that the others are not capable of sprouting roots.....Perhaps the stems are rotten? Slimy?

Maybe you could re-cut the ends to higher up and root it all over again in water?
See if that helps....If it keeps turning yellow--I would chuck it!
IF you bought it at a HD--and have the receipt--they guarantee plants for one year.

Sorry this is sort of vague--but perhaps it will help somewhat.

When bamboo starts turning yellow it generally means that its not getting enough water so i think you were right to take it out and try to give it more water but the problem with taking it out of soil staight into water is the bamboo might go into shock and you could kill it that way aswell. I understand your thinking but it may have done more harm than good. I would now just wait and see what it does - and for future reference if another bamboo starts going yellow take it out and out it in a pot all of its own and make sure its watered - less shock that way :) Sorry its a late reply - what your plant doing now?

O no! i hope i havnt killed it! :( Its gone even more yellow and there is hardly and green left on it, but it isnt sqwedgy its stil hard! so its not rotting or anything! o no! why didnt i think of putting in its own pot instead of water! Now its turned basically all yellow is thgere no chance of it ever recovering?
