Sad, sad Eastern Redbud tree

San Marcos, CA

I have a small redbud tree, planted 2 years ago. It has done beautifully, till now. This spring it was covered with lovely pink blossoms, then little leaves. All of a sudden all the leaves have turned yellow-brown and it looks as if it has died. Will someone please help me save our expensive little tree?

Can you post some pictures?

I forgot to mention that it is an Eastern Redbud. I will try to post a photo, but I'm not really sure how to do it on here....

Right under the text box where you type your post there's a place to click to add a picture--click that, then browse to the folder on your hard drive where you pictures are (often "My Pictures" unless you've purposely put them somewhere else) and choose the pic you want.

Western redbuds would be better suited to your climate than eastern ones, but if you can give it the right conditions you should probably still be able to grow the eastern one. They are understory trees, so if you've got it out in full blazing sun that may be too much for it. And watering problems are always a suspect--too much water and too little water have similar symptoms but it's pretty easy to do the finger test (stick your finger down a few inches into the soil near the roots) and see how wet the soil feels--if it's bone dry you may not be watering enough and if it's really wet then you're probably watering too much and should cut back. There are plenty of other possibilities too, that's why seeing some pictures would really help.
