I planted two potentilla plants late last summer. They both had flowers then. In the last week one of the plants have flowers and the other does not. They are in the same small area (four plants apart). These plants have a one year guarantee but my friend tells me to wait (it is only early June now) Is it possible that this plant will not bloom this year, but will bloom next year?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Karen
potentilla
Assuming the plant is alive and looking healthy I wouldn't worry. It could be that it's just a little slower than the other plant and will be blooming soon, or it may wait until next year. The other possibility is that you have it in an area where the conditions aren't right for it to bloom, but if your other one is blooming then that's probably not a concern. Many perennials follow the rule "first year they sleep, second year they creep, third year they leap". They will always work on getting their roots established before they do a lot of top growth and flowers. So as long as it's healthy your best bet it to be patient with it.
The plant that has flowers is flourising. Since I wrote this the other one now has one flower. Do you think this is a sign that there will be more to come?
Thanks,
Karen
They should be fine.
