The birds are quite shy, they do not often come this close in populated area, so seeing them perching nearby is alway a treat. Here is a recent pix of one.

Occassionally a pair will visit:

To have more than a pair of egrets in view, is a rare occassion. But, they do come by once in a blue moon -- or blue sky day. ^_^

Great job Lily! Your so lucky to have such beautiful visitors!

Thanks for starting the new thread!

Thanks Pelle, it's a pleasure to share nature beauty... Like this Redheaded Woodpecker, I heard the pecking noises they made daily, but to capture a pix of 'em bird -- priceless!

So cute peeking out at you!

Wish I had something to show but our weather has been terrible.

Beautiful photos to start this new thread Lily. I love the Egrets and that WP is cute.
Pelle, hope the weather will be better for you soon.

My juvenile Orioles are so cute when they're trying to figure out how to balance themselves on the railing wire.

I'm behind on the thread again.

This adorable baby blue tit was just on my garden fence. I think the nest is in a nearby Viburnum bush.

Pelle, hope the weather improves for you. Speaking of which, it's getting cloudier here too. I may have to shut the pc down if this keeps up.

Pekin ducks, these couple were here earlier today.

Pretty Pekin's Lily!

Saw a catbird while eating out last night. We usually have them every yr. but they seem to have deserted us.

Mama/Papa Starling bringing home the bacon, or should I say the bug. Can anybody ID the bug?

I have a question that you bird experts might be able to answer.

I have several families of Gambel's Quail that live in or near my yard. All of the photos and illustrations I've seen of this type of quail show them as having a single top knot feather; however, I have one family in which all of the quail (both male and female) have two or more top knot feathers. I'm just wondering how common an occurrence this is; and if this might be some type of genetic mutation from the norm.

Here's a picture of one of the male quail that I took this morning. He only has two top knot feathers; but some of them have as many as 4 feathers.

Well I guess I will have to do more work on the mealworm feeder to keep larger birds out. I caught this Robin stealing worms Thursday.

Wow, the quail is so very interesting! And your Robin Frank. The shot captured it as if it was saying "Who me?" when it got caught red handed. lol.

Adel,

Quoting:
what bugs?
Those could be dragonfly's larvae. Those maybe the last instar before it emerges as a mature dragonfly?

My residential Mallard ducks. They're here year round.

Lily_love....Thanks, you are probably right since another pic I took (poorly focused) showed her/him with a full grown Dragon Fly.

This season has been such a disappointment, bird wise. Last year I had warblers everywhere, and this year I have seen so very few. I hope they're just late..............

The Scrub Jays have fledged, and the young are easy to tell from the adults. They sport very whispy feathers and haven't yet obtained the blue of the parent birds.

Here's one at the creek.

Haha,they are so cute tiger!

Great pics everyone!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

NMJane, that is a good question on the top feather. Sorry I can't answer you, but I went through my photos of my Calif. Quail and found that a couple had what looked like heart shaped feathers on top.

Frank, great photo of the Robin. Don't blame him, he's just trying to provide for his family and remember it's almost Father's Day.

Great Mallards Lily.

Tiger, your Jay photos are wonderful. I have 3 fledges here too and that baby mouth is what always makes them look all the cuter to me. Speaking on that "praying" photo, one of my Orioles looked similar and I thought it was checking out the big feet!

This Oriole still has the downy back.

Closer look at the down. It looks so soft!

Another Oriole looked like it was pulling out a feather.
