Thank you Don, you made me 'smile'...nice to have DG friends as well, boosts your moral..
"M" wow you had the heat wave for sure..think they care calling for mid 30's here today with humidex and I have to be at work..ho hum...
The good side is, well you know me, not one for waiting for anything...went and looked at the back area..sooo sad but I dug a hole, plan on hitting Home Depot this morning, that's why I'm already up and at it..lol..neighbor who works at Home Depot here in Midland says their larger trees are on 50% off to clear them so me thinks if I can find one, I'll pay for it and have son Greg pick it up after work and I'll have it planted before night fall...
Forgot to mention another good side to yesterday..got my passport in the mail..now I can travel again, lordy I wasn't pleased knowing I couldn't go anywhere even though I had no plans to go anywhere except bring mom across the border for a weekend...
What's Happening in Your neighborhood-visit with friends #19
well I made it to work, 10 minutes to spare..did the Home Depot run and bought a flowering pear tree..
Have you ever seen a little car go up the highway with at 10' tree peeping out the trunk...
Got it home safely...no time for planting lol so a chore for tonight..
Will do same tomorrow morning..bought a lilac tree (not shrub) and a red maple..so 2 more trips..one can only do so much with a little car..think I push it to the extreme lol
Betty if i had my truck there, we'd do it in no time. Nice selection of trees you got. What a good friend for working on that tree.
~M~ that's ugly hot, good thing you had a/c.
Cloudy with a light rain here, about 17*, haven't seen rain in so long.
The trip to the Yukon, I lived there for a brief time after moving from Yellowknife. Although it's beautiful, other reasons made my stay there too short. My DSO hasn't been north of Kitimat and we have some got friends in Whitehorse, free lodging, and they have 3 dogs, must be good people right?! We're looking forward to it.
Linda
Wish I could tag along with you..could help you drive...good at that...
They encourage you to purchase small vehicles re gas but what they don't tell you is you are soooo limited as to what you can transport....
I always seem to find a way though..boy does my vehicle need cleaning..half the pot dirt is in my trunk
had a bit of a dizzy spell yesterday, at work - my legs went all wobbly, and I was light-headed.
Went to the OccHealth&Wellness manager and she had the nurse check me out (good thing I work @ Calgary Lab Services.......), then they sent me via taxi to a Walk In clinic, cuz my doctor's office wanted me to have an appointment before they'd see me..........and they couldn't take me that day anyway! The Dr's suggested the Emerg, but they supposed I'd be seen in 9to10 hours!
Anyway, the clinic took a prick of my finger (suppose for Diabetis, but it was fine), my blood pressure, and checked my heart - all fine.
I think I took too much iron, and got sick that way. I'm either anemic, or have too much iron in my system. I have to watch both ways LOL
I wish there was a way for me to tell when my iron is low, and then again when it's too high!!
Anyway, I'm home today, resting, and getting my DG FIX!!
I wobbled around outside and watered my wee gardens, and sat down alot lol
In 2 hours I'll see my Dr, get a bloodwork request, and fill it at work (they take bloodwork app'ts on Friday, so I don't have to go all over the city to get it done - kewl, eh?)
-Susan-
Susan, sorry to hear you are not feeling up to par..could it be the HEAT?
Best get it checked before attempting to go back to work...are there specific signs that are listed that would give you clues when they are off balance..just like stroke signs?
So, with Canada Day being on Wednesday what will all of you be doing..all having Wednesday or taking alternative day to make it a long weekend..I stuck with Wednesday otherwise I'd heat out to the USA for the weekend..
no, Betty - it's not the Heat (as if we have enuff ot it! NOT)
I've gotten heat stroke before, and I know that one, plus I wasn't outside yesterday, during work (not even at lunchtime - eat at my desk)
Our church is creating a Memorial Garden, and is asking the congregation to meet on the 1st. Looks like that's what I'm helping with...
that project sounds very worthwhile..something I'd enjoy working on..nope, live to far from you or I just might!
hahahaha Betty - doncha think you have enuff projects?
Just came from the Dr's - 2 hours waiting, for a 2 minute visit - long enuff for him to fill out a bloodwork request, then I was out of there!! Ya think he could have fit me in quicker...... ah well, I'm kvetching!!
Tonight we have handbell practice - our last one before our last performance, then the bells go back to the other church they belong to.
Tomorrow's our last vocal practice before our last performance, too. Thing is, we don't have to return our voices!! lol
On Saturday we have our vocal choir wind-up, and it's potluck.
I'm a bit tired, so I'm going to lay down for a bit, before having to go set up the table for the bells....... cya later!
Haven't had much time to check in. Been busy with DGD and DD. DGD's first birthday yesterday and we had a small party - us and a cousin and the cousin's 91-yr-old mother.
This morning I was supposed to meet one of the Vancouver DG continguent for breakfast and got stood up. Still don't know what happened as she has neither phoned my DD's number nor D-mailed. But I had a nice breakfast by myself at a place DH and I discovered last July which makes a nice "breakfast bun" with egg, smoked salmon, tomato, cucumber, onion and a bit of mayo and a nice latté.
Went out with DD to do some errands and later this afternoon, took DGD for a walk in the rain to a used book store and the bank.
DSIL's parents fly in later tonight from Kitchener area and DSIL's father's b-day is today which we'll celebrate tomorrow. They will still be here on Saturday when DGD's big party will be held. I will have returned home as my airline bookings were made before it was scheduled.
Hope all is well with you.
Ann
I have somehow missed this thread for several days - guess I accidentally clicked unwatch!
Been kinda busy - worked at the House on Sat, Sunday afternoon a meeting of as many of the recues volunteers as could make it to start a reorganisation because the lady who started and has been running the rescue almost single handedly is resigning so we are all picking up new jobs, Went well, everybody pitched in including Winston a 3 yr old Sheltie who keep getting up on a chair at the kitchen table and sampling our lunch . My new job is Communications and Intake coordinator which means I get to monitor the website/email/phone and respond to or forward to appropriate person everything that comes in! Well I am the one who has the most time and spends the most time on the computor so................!
I was given access to the email Sunday eve and immediately started to check things out. Was astonished to find former director never deleted anything since it was set up. Over 4000 emails in both sent and received files! Guess who is hitting the delete button? not even reading them - if it is not 2009 out it goes! Then I will start reading before deleting!
Then a big panic happens Monday when it is discovered our website is down, the person running it wants to turn over ownership/management etc to one of us ( she is outside the group) and we have 30 days to do this! Because somebody didnt pay the annual fee! After much emailing back and forth to make the needed changes
I said so why ca't I please just pay what is owed and who too - got the answer, did it and the site is back up. Now we have time for the other website issues! About which I know nothing but I am set to be the new owner of the domain name! Wow! Never owned a domain before!
Rally class with the dogs Monday eve, Bailey just wanted to sniff the floor, Fancy kept looking at me like she didnt know who I was!
But yesterday a nice day with a friend, lunch and checking out her garden , handing out advice on what she should enter in the upcoming competition .( I am going to be a judge this year!)
And today one of our former fosters who moved back to Toronto (silly lady!) visiting, over for lunch with her hostess and visiting my garden and then to the House for a quick tour.
Tomorrow the car in for spring check up and then maybe get back to normal? Hah!
Sorry this is so long - needed to play catch up!
This pic ( which I earlier posted for an ID on the iris forum)is from my friends garden. It is called Blue Batik. I hope she will let me have a tuber in a year or two. And glory be my peonies are starting to bloom!
Carol - those flowers are Glorious! Wow - what a blue :-) Looks sorta like cobalt blue, and I love it!
Congrats on the new position - sounds like quite a lot of work & responsibility. Don't you just hate it when others take on a job, and don't do it? They've left you with quite a bit of cleanup and you're Just The One To Do It :-) Good for you!
and you'll be a judge, too - one busy lady this year (as you are every year...) I wish I had 1/2 your energy :-)
Take care,
Susan
Morning all ..
Busy place in here .. as always ..
Susan .. I wish you better health .. hope you feel better quickly.
Ann .. disappointing re being 'stood up' .. makes the mind think LOADS of scenarios .. glad you had a yummy breakfast though, and it certainly sounds as though you have a pretty full plate during your time in the west .. could ya push that rain eastwards please LoL ..
Carol .. congrats on your 'DOMAINITUDE" :o) ... do so hope all works out well for you and the site .. 4000 NON deleted emails .. lawsie !!! That in itself would make the website run wonkie !!
Love the colour of the Irises .. very much a Blue Batik ...
Betty .. am also wondering here what day will be taken as the 'holiday day' .. am thinking most will keep to the Wednesday .. be interesting to see what happens.
Have the house wide open this morning .. letting the cooler air in before I close it up around 8. It was up around 32C here yesterday .. more with the humidex factored in ..
Need to do some weeding today .. and watering .. sure could use some rain !!!
Take care all
~M~
Thanks ~M~, I'm feeling somewhat better....
My Dr. told me to stop taking iron - seems I may have too much in my system, especially if I' no longer anemic and still taking iron...
I "popped my hip out" yesterday, so was feeling a bit tenuous, but it's better now (3 trips to the hot tub helped.......after the 3rd one, and taking Ibuprophine!)
I'm at work today, and still taking my time today. Yesterday I directed handbells by sitting down with a HUGE cushion behind me lol It was too tall and projected about 3 ft above my chair lol I didn't realize it until my DH took it off and I saw what I had behind me lol Ah well, it was one way to sit and play the bells! Otherwise I would twist my back & it HURT. Had my DH put my socks on for me this am! Price of getting older, I suppose.....
-Susan-
Drats and more drats...know I typed a long post, gabbed to all of you ..nope not here...out in cyberspace...wonder how the individual who catches them in cyberspace feel about all our chit/chat? hmmm
Carol, love the Blue Batique...how stunning...
Susan sure hope you start feeling a little better, seems you've a long run of aches and pains...frustrating isn't it...more so going to the doctor after waiting forever for appt. and sitting in the waiting room only to be seen for a second..never even get to tell them all about our aches/pains..rush you in and rush you out..
Goodness...same day as I had my catscan I went and applied for passport...got me my passport but no results on the catscan...sooo long to get anything done in our medical system right now...and with shortage of dr's even worse are the availability of appts.
Ann, enjoy your visit with DGD, nice that even though you live so far away you've the opportunity to visit with her so often.... not nice being stood up..let's hope everything is ok with her..
Another beautiful hot muggy day in paradise, calling for more on the weekend...NOT going to complain, after all I sat here at the keyboard all winter complaining about ice storms/blizzards/sub zero weather, shovelling etc.etc. soooo not saying a word, just going to enjoy, because you know it's not that far away that the white stuff will be here...
Good morning,
Still no word from the DG person. I wonder what happened. I know she works nights at ahospital aqnd was coming from work so there are all sorts of things that could happen, but still no word.
DSIL's parents arrived late last night from Kitchener area and I expect we'll see them soon. It's still raining in Vancouver. Bummer. Got my shoes soaked yesterday and otherwise have just sandals. I think I'll wear them today - they dry faster.
Have been teaching DD to knit and she's doing well. Will get out a bit today when the other grandparents are around to watch Leila. There's a store I've wanted to visit for some time and Shopper's Drug is a couple of blocks away - seniors' Thursday. Will pick up a few items that will easily fit into a suitcase.
Have a great day.
Ann
Oh my Betty .. the 'Incredible disappearing email thing' very frustrating. There is some 'key' on this laptop (yet to be identified by me) that I must touch .. any message I am writing literally VANISHES .. I have tried to retrieve them with NO success .. ergo .. shorter messages :0)
Glad you're feeling better Susan .. too much iron can slow you sown for sure !!!
Ann .. I am sure the DGer has a good reason for not showing up .. but .. unless you hear from them, well, you'll never know ..
Enjoy your time there .. wet feet and all .
BTW .. in total .. SIX people have tired to teach me how to knit .. and .. 6 people have failed .. just can't seem to get it ..
Got the weeding done, and the bathrooms cleaned .. made haddock for dinner .. and am now endeavouring to keep me peepers open as I am going to go to the airport for 11pm to pick up a bud and drive her home ..
Kinda shocked about the death of Michael Jackson (wasn't a big fan) and .. sad to hear Farrah Fawcett lost her battle with cancer ..
Life is just SO unpredictable ..

Marilynne - I DID hear from her and her DH had an accident at work and nearly severed a leg. I sure hope he will be OK.
Leila's other grandparents are here too now and we had a great time spoiling her today.
Edited because I mistakenly typed DD instead of DH

~ M~ thanks for the thoughts - I just feel so headachy and draggy - something NO Gardener is, during the summer lol
I wasn't a fan of Michael Jackson, either, but it was sudden........
Poor Farrah - she tried soooooooo hard. It had been coming for awhile, so it wasn't unexpected, but it was very sad....
-Susan-
Well .. I made it into the airport and back home unscathed .. except for the airport security guy (and I use that word loosley) !!! My ffiends plane landed at 1030 .. we figured if I was there by 11pm she would be done getting baggage and waiting outside the terminal .. so .. I pull up to a sign that says 'PICKUP/DROP OFF .. NO Waiting" .. well .. we had been in contact via cell phone so I thought there would be NO WAITING .. however .. THREE planes landed within minutes of one another, and the sidewalk was awash with people .. I was looking and looking .. and .. here comes MR GROUCHY 2009 .. frantically pointing to the signs .. NO WAITING .. I say I am 'picking up' .. he says 'it's taking you too long' .. I have been there less than a minute !!! So .. I swing around the airport and come back .. all the while talking to my friend .. I approach the terminal once again .. and there she is waving .. I pull in to PICK HER UP, and Mr Grouchy is ON IT .. NO WAITING .. for cryin out loud ..my friend is furiously trying to get her bags in my trunk .. he stands and watches her .. I so wanted to give him the 'one fingered salute' when we pulled away !!!
My bud forgot I had a new car .. was looking for my Navy car .. ah well .. at least I'm forewarned for next time !!
Ann .. so glad to hear the DGer got in touch with you .. awful re her hubby though .. and I when I mentioned about the thoughts that go through your head yesterday .. that was one of them fer sure ..
Enjoy Leila
Susan .. it's just plain crummy to FEEL crummy especially when it's the type of 'crumminess' that saps your energy.
AM on with VCARS today, and hoping for a quiet day .. still have higher than normal temps here and .. NO RAIN !!
TGIF everyone
~M~

Ann...she must have been do distraught getting the call that her daughter had been in an accident and knowing you were there waiting..will include her DD in my prayers...
Airports, no fun for sure trying to make a pick-up..funny that she hadn't remembered you purchasing a new car... frustrating I'm sure...
Susan, hope you are feeling better today....
It's a sunshine day in my neighborhood, calling for same tomorrow but 80% rain for Sunday..now can I choose the hours it rains? wanted so much to play in the gardens...oh well, it's not snow so be happy Betty..
Last night on my way home I saw on the curb in a town mid way to work metal sides of a gazebo ready for big object pick up..told myself that if they were there this morning I'd be picking them up...
My poor Aveo, I truly work it to death, know it's not a truck but I try to fit same amount in her that I would in a truck at times..lol
Didn't want to drive with it all the way to work so decided to stop at my brothers' and drop it off..they were cozy in bed sleeping..just called..SIL said yep they found it and if no one owned up to it by noon they were hers and she had a place for them...too bad, so sad they are mine..
He asked me what I would do with them...told him I'd rebolt the 2 pieces making corners, set 2 of them side by side, with wood create a support top and bottom to form an arbor...I'm so hoping he takes the hint and does it for me...aren't I a terrible con artists..well, what are brothers for...
Betty - I want to go driving in the neighbourhoods you do! Mind you, I couldn't fit the gazebo in my yard lol
I'm fasting this am before blood tests..... I'm sooooooo hongry! and headachy...
Want my coffeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! (and my porridge!)
I'm at work, cuz that's where I get the blood tests @ 8:35. At least there won't be any waiting cuz I'm in the admin offices of a lab lol It's only 7:50 and I expect the tests won't end until 9am....... siiiiiiiiiigh
I got my hand henna'd yesterday @ work. People who run the cafeteria had a niece come in and "do" all comers. Looks pretty, now that the clumped paint is off, and leaves the dye job. I'll take a pic of it and post tonight.
-Susan-
Well I am hoping for a 'normal' day topday. Tuesday and Wednes were social days, yesterday I took the car into Saturn for spring check up. I was not sure how long it would be, what we needed to do so left the dogs home - usually I am just there maybe 1 1/2 hours - this time, lots to do - in fact it was so many $$ we had to prioritize the list down to my upper limit!Left the rest for fall. And then it was going to take so long I had them shuttle me home -that was about 11am - didnt get picked up until 3pm! So I just picked around the garden and a bit of work at my new 'job' for the rescue ( I am trimming those 8000 posts!)
So today it is back to walk the dogs go to Curves, pick up Fancys food at the vets put some plants in a neighbors garden ( surplus in mine!) and otherwise do nothing! Unless of course the pensions have come in in which case I am going to Walmart to buy a new sewing machine recommended by my cleaner who is a fabulous sewer.
Hiya :-)
Susan .. hope you didn't faint from hunger of hypoglcemia !! Always remember feeling so bad for patients who had to fast long periods of time prior to blood work ..
Betty .. here's hoping your brother 'took the hint' LoL .. the metal pieces sound interesting, specially what you have in mind for them ..
You sure are busy Carol .. and the car costs are not a welcome piece of info I am sure !
Good luck re the sewing machine .. I am pretty sure the CPP deposits are today ..
VERY warm here .. put out 2 loads of laundry and have them in already .. now I just have to sort and put it away ..
So far have only had to do a 'follow up call' to a victim .. that went well .. and I do so hope I do NOT get a call as I find that the heat is just a bit too oppressive for me today .. tomorrow I have heard a prediction of a high of SIXTEEN and RAIN (90%) in the afternoon .. crazy Canada .. 38C to 16C .. no doubt there will be Thunder storms .. saw some footage from around Tillsonberg area from yesterday .. hail and BIG wind .. I think I may have seen something about an F2 tornado touching down as well !!!
Off to drink more water ..
ENJOY your day
~M~
"M" should be near the 80's for us tomorrow but 80% rain for Sunday..I've joined a few quilting swaps so if it does rain I'll be ready with my projects...see that it's quite breezy here..great day for clothing drying on the line...
Keep watching the clock, another 20 minutes and I'm off to visit a new nursery..omg you should see the lawn art..no can buy-no can buy...keep telling myself that..let's hope I listen!
Thanks M! What is your cousins kennel name? Looks a full house. We had a rescue meeting last Sunday and most of us brought dogs - only maybe 8-9. One kept climbing onto a chair in the kitchen to reach the food on the table!
Curious think happened here. Last year and again this year a lot of ants in the lawn . I have several stone patio and walk areas - lots of sand under and sure seems to attract the ants. but usually under the stonework or sometimes in the flower beds. Anyway I like to use these little ant traps around and about as I know the dogs cant get at the poisin. I had a number of them spread out on the lawn and today they were gone! All of them except one which I noticed later on in another part of the yard - and - a couple hours later when I came home from shopping it was gone too! A strange thief in the neighborhood! I presume maybe the crows or the magpies have picked them up - cant think of anything else.
Got the new sewing machine - Brother CE5000.It is out of the box but that is as far as I have gone!
Hi folks,
Been home about an hour now. Just decided that I'm hungry - didn't really have a dinner - just snacks on the plane. The flight was fine though they left the fasten seatbelt sign on for too long. I figured if it was quiet enough for them to serve beverages, it was quiet enough to get to the washrooms and if I didn't before I got to my row, I'd really be stuck. Am distinctly NOT impressed with AC check-in in Vancouver. Think I'll draft a good complaint letter tomorrow.
Ann
Welcome home Ann .. seems we both have had our fill of Airports over the last couple of days. Please do send a letter .. I did with regards to the rude 'sidewalk security guard'
Carol .. congrats on the sewing machine :-)
Here's the link to my cousin's Kennel http://my.tbaytel.net/~dalgar@tbaytel.net/dalgarnoch_site/index.html
Going to go and see my Hospice client today .. she has, unfortunately, been hospitalized again.
Much cooler morning here .. and the skies are threatening rain .. here's hoping it does !!!
Enjoy your day
~M~
Marilynne - you bet I will. I arrived at the airport about 1 pm yesterday for a 2:40 flight. Machine wouldn't print my luggage tags; so I got in a line and I stood and stood. Only when I got reasonably close did I discover that MY line went to ONE agent while the line near it fed to 5 agents and nothing to distinguish between the two. Also, when I first got in it, I thought it was all one line.
By the time I figured it wasn't, I decided to stay put, but the people ahead of me were unbelievably slow. I finally, when I reached the point when I was next in MY line, RAN when the agent called next in the other line and beat out someone who had not been there anywhere near as long as I had been.
Gave the agent a real blast - this is the first time I've travelled on my own for quite a long time. DH has Elite status and we go through the executive class check-in. A real eye-opener seeing how they treat the average passenger. I told him I'm not likely to travel AC on my own ever again if I have a choice not to. Anyway, apparently after I blasted the agent, they came and invited the man behind me to be served shortly. I asked him as he reached the gate not long after I did.
But I think I should get outside while the weather's good. Supposed to be crappy tomorrow. Am not functioning particularly well. got home about 11, stayed up till 2 with unpacking, eating, laundry and the time change. Didn't get to sleep until around 3 and then Ottawa DD (maybe not DEAR today) telephoned before 7:30. I didn't talk to her - just grumped. Jeez - who taught that kid? Never before 8 on a Saturday (which is when I had the alarm set for) and really not before 9 unless one knows the person well.
Anyway, I have few pics. Bananas are a big hit. I guess a couple of weeks ago she made it VERY clear she wanted to feed herself. Might have a south paw here.
Vancouver real-estate values have me in sticker shock. These three houses are across the street from my DD in the Commercial Drive area. The one on the right just sold for $1,010,000. I've got a pretty good idea what that would buy in Ottawa and that's not it.
I think DSIL said they are all on 25' lots. DD's house is quite a lot smaller.
