Comments regarding Territorial Seed Company

Excellent catalog! Excllent phone customer service! Website seems confusing to me, but I might not be viewing it optimally with my server. All seeds I have orders are well packaged and correctly labeled.
They offer an excellent selection of vegetables, heirlooms, and cover crops. One of the few companies that offer a rich selection of garlics for western gardeners.

I have ordered several times from Territorial and always received what I ordered in a timely manner. Had an error once (lost order) and I called the company, immediately spoke to a live person and had the issue corrected. No problems at all!!

Territorial is the first seed company from which I have ever ordered. I was very impressed with the ease of ordering, speed of delivery, and the quality of seeds. I can also say that the germination rate of the Territorial seeds is much higher than the cheap seeds I had been buying at the local discount store.
I would not hesitate to purchase seeds from this company again.

I first started buying seeds from Territorial eight years ago when I lived in Seattle. Although I've moved clear across the country since then, I still order most of my seeds from them. I've had far more consistent results with their seeds than any other supplier I've ever tried, whether mail order or off the rack. I get great germination rates (even with normally hard to sprout seeds) and vigorous plants.

I've been ordering seeds from Territorial since they first started, over 20 years ago, and I've never had the slightest problem with them. I order from other companies too, but I consistently find what I need at Territorial. I particularly recommend them if you live in a Pacific Maritime area, as I do (San Francisco).

I like their approach and selections. Great biointensive philosophy. Shipped on time. But I must note, the amount of seeds in each packet is less that others.

I ordered 3 Keeper (hard to find) tomato plants. Due to a shipping company screw up they were DOA. When I called the plants were reshipped to me promptly. Then another shipping screw up! Two plants were dead and one was a green stick. I called again and explained that two were dead but I might be able to nurse back # 3. I asked for a refund for only 2. I was told that they don't charge for "green sticks" and was given a prompt refund for all three. These are such nice straight forward people who stand by their plants 100%. I will be ordering from them again. P.S. The green stick is now a small but thriving plant!!

I ordered plants (tomato, pepper, basil, lavender). Pricey, but I was pleased with the packaging. Plants were held in place in individual collared cells, and they looked healthy. Be careful when removing collars, though, I almost snapped one of the pepper plants in half. The plants went into the grounds as soon as I received them; it's a week later and they're all healthy and growing. I'd order plants from them again, as long as it's something I'm willing to pay extra for.

I also ordered seeds, and the ones I have planted so far are doing fine.

I have been satisfied with the seeds I have purchased from Territorial. However, I purchased a large number of tomato plants and the plants are of marginal quality at best. I have emailed the company with no success at this time. As of now, approximately 1/3 of the plants I ordered are dead, and were that way when they came out of the shipping box.

They ripped me off, by overcharging, and then when I complained they said they would get back but never did.

Used them once and never again. The worst experience I have ever had in a mail order company.

Their shipping and handling charges to Canada are also very expensive.

Fast delivery, great product. Love all the interesting heritage varieties of seeds they have available. Very pleased with them and will use them for now on for all my seed needs.

This year is the first time I've ordered plants from this company, although I've ordered seeds from them off and on for many years.

I found customer service to be very responsive to emails, but have been disappointed in the plants I've received to date. The first shipment was supposed to contain 2 plants according to the packing slip. I actually ordered several plants, but they sent them in separate shipments. According to the packing slip there should have been a tomato plant and an eggplant plant in the box. There were plant markers for both plants, but only one actual plant in the box (the tomato)and it was almost completely dead. Tiny little seedling with very little sign of life. It did die within a day or two of receiving it. I emailed customer service and they've informed me that they will resend the plants.

Today I received another box with the rest of the "other" plants I ordered. The herb plants are small, but appear healthy and the pepper plant is so tiny that I couldn't even see it until the box was completely unpacked. It had one set of tiny, just emerged true leaves. Considering how young this plant is, I could have planted my own seeds instead of purchasing a "plant" and paying for shipping. Since we do have a long growing season in OK, I may actually see fruit from this plant if I nurture it and season it off once it's larger. The dying tomato plant wasn't much larger.
Although I may order seeds from them again in the future, I will not order plants again. There are too many other suppliers who provide much better plants.

A four pack of pepper plants arrived today from a different company and they were many times the size of the pitiful thing I got from Territorial.

Not impressed with their plants at all.

I have bought Territtorial seed products for quite a few years from local retailers, and in person at one of their nurseries. I really like their products a lot. I placed my second online order with them several days ago. Beware as they do not currently send UPS tracking numbers or even respond to emails concerning shipment.

They do not offer an online order information. They do email you the order number right after you place your order but do not include any information as to what you ordered or how much your CC was actually charged. You must save or print the order information off of their website because you will not have access to it until you get your order. Perhaps you could always phone them. They definately need to upgrade to upgrade their website and need to improve customer service. I really like the products they sell but other online vendors offer similar products and provide much better customer service.

I've been buying from Territorial since it was brand new and had a different owner and I stumbled over their little seed catalog at the Tigard library. This is by far my favorite seed and plant company. When I lived in Oregon, we made a twice-yearly trek to buy seed, plants and fertilizer from the Cottage Grove store. Now that I live on the East coast, I order through their internet site and have had excellent service for the last 3 years. Doesn't matter whether I order garlic for fall shipment or seed for spring, Territorial does a great job for me.

Now, keep in mind that some of their varieties are geared toward the Pacific Northwest's cooler summers. So if you live in the deep South, you don't won't need to stick with their tomatoes or corn, but their broccoli choices will be perfect for the South or for other areas with a short spring and an early summer.

I've ordered from Territorial for several years now, and they are far and away my favorite. The catalog alone is an excellent reference source, packed with growing information. Seeds, plants, and supplies arrive quickly and in good shape, and I've never had any problems with germination or survival. EXCELLENT company!

After Garden Watchdog's positive ratings I thought I'd give Territorial Seed a try. So far so good: a real good selection of vegtable and herbs, good discriptions and planting information in the catalog. My order was sent quickly and was entirely filled (this was important as time was getting tight for seeds that needed to be sowed 8 weeks in advance of planting.)
I also ordered a number of herb plants that are due to arrive in May. I am curious to see their condition after being shipped from Oregon to Massachusetts! They seem like a real good outfit.

I usually go to the Cottage Grove store. They have always been helpful. Good and growing selection of organic seeds.

I just received my seed order from Territorial and am extremely impressed. I received all items ordered (no back orders as so often happens with other vendors). The seed packs are very informative. Things were appropriately packed; some pelleted lettuce seeds came in a plastic screw top container with a wad of cottony type material in the top to prevent shattering of the coating. Now, that's service!

Additionally, the package included only an extra order form and one advertisement for their newsletter - not those tons of advertising materials from all kinds of companies that are often included.

I usually order seeds based on price. As long as germination rates are as expected, I'll be placing many future orders with this company based on both price and quality of service.

Great quality and service. And this is the only--the ONLY!--seed company I've found with a great selection of seeds for cool maritime climates, drawing on strains developed in northwestern Europe. Perfect for my Seattle garden. If not for Territorial, I'd have never succeeded with winter veggies, nor with decent summer tomatoes and peppers. If cool rules where you live, this is the seed catalog to read.

Ok, one more rating and I'm done. Territorial is a superb seed company. They have an excellent selection, fast delivery, and a catalog that is like a gardening "how to" book, I can't even bring myself to throw it away. I can't wait to see their winter catalog.

How wonderful to have a catalog full of plants that I know will grow here! Moving from Ohio, I pretty much had to relearn how to garden, and just reading their catalog did a lot to help me. Everything grew well, and the "samplers" have so much in them I had leftovers to share with my neighbors.

I have have nothing but praise for Territorial Seed Co. My orders have always been handled professionally and the stock I have received has always been packed well and arrives in excellent condition. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone.

I have always had excellent results with Territorial seed company products. The few times I did not achieve good results, it was because of poor gardening practices, rather than their product. I received one (1) incorrect order, called their customer service, and received a replacement order free of charge. I've used territorial for about five years now. One problem in five years is pretty good, if you ask me.

One of the best companies for providing seed to the Pacific Northwest and California. A very valuable feature is that it gives complete seed sowing instructions, seed life information, and tips for propagation as well. A nice concise and varied catalogue; always dependable and reasonably priced goods.

Recently ordered from them. Turns out the pea I ordered was a bush variety, not a climbing/tall variety as they had (mis)described in the catalog. One of their lettuce descriptions was also incorrect (the variety turns out to be a butter lettuce, not a romaine as they described.) The descriptions were also incorrect on the website and still are, even though I brought it to their attention to change. I only ordered 8 packets of seed, but besides the two above errors, they also sent me an incorrect packet of seed instead of the variety I ordered (not a substitution.)

Everyone makes mistakes, but when I brought these three errors on my single order to their attention, they simply said "whoops, sorry!" No offer was made to correct their mistakes or replace my seed. I had to email them again requesting substitutions. They then wanted me to pay to mail back the incorrect seed they had goofed up! I'm happy to return it, but not at *my* expense, it wasn't my error, I already paid to have correctly described (and ordered,)seed shipped the first time! Anyhow, here it is a month since I've notified them of the website description errors and it still hasn't been changed (I have to wonder how many other people have notified them of the errors since last fall, and it still hasn't been changed...)

They seem like very nice people, but I won't trust their seed descriptions (web or print) again, nor will I trust their customer service to correct any errors which might occur.

Ordered garlic on 9/23/02 recieved on9/30/02. Living in Wisconsin would'nt of thought I'd see it for a couple weeks. Garlic was in good shape (much bigger than most garlic I've ordered). Sales person very helpful and informative. Will order from them again. Thanks Territorial.

I've purchased seed from this company since I initially settled in the Pacific Northwest, 18 years ago. Their seed is very vigorous and they have a decent selection and the company seems to have some good ethics about them. I have also had good luck w/Territorial seeds purchased off of seed racks at various locations from the local food co-op to a garden center that carries them.

Wonderful company! The Customer Service is comfortable and friendly, The seeds are first rate and the packaging was right. What a delight to get the product before you expect it! The catalog alone is a great reference tool (with a magnifying glass for the small print). I will do business with them again, and again...

I ordered from Territorial this year for the first time. I only ordered seed. It was shipped very promptly and the order was correct. I then ordered a soil thermometer which also arrived very promptly. I will order from them again.

Ordered 8 different seed packets from their website, plus (2) different species of blueberry bushes, on a Sunday afternoon mid-February. Four days later, I had my seed packets (not bad since I had chosen the cheapest shipping, and I'm in Ohio).

Last week, my blueberry bushes arrived well-packed, in good shape, size advertised, just in time for me to think about planting in my zone as promised. So far, the seeds have germinated extremely well also--even the lemongrass, which they warned would be erratic at best. I, too, have found that their "sample packets" have plenty of seed for the backyard veggie gardener. Will definitely order from them again.

What do I love about Territorial. I have been buying seed from Territorial for about 10 years now, and it has always been consistently good, excellent germination rates, good viability of saved seed, great selections, attention to heirloom varieties and minimal processing of seeds, excellent customer service--and the catalog! The catalog alone provides so much information about gardening in the Pacific Northwest, you might not even need to buy Solomon's book. (Although Territorial does sell it, and I do recommend it.)

The sample packet is more than enough to get the average gardener through a gardening season, with more seed than most other seed companies!

Also, if you ever have the chance to visit the Territorial store--it's not a very upscale place, quite down home, but so much fun to see the complete selection of seeds. They also supply many types of berry bushes, full sun to part shade types, important for us in the rainy Northwest.

I can't say enough good things about this company--and am a little suprised they haven't made your Top 10 list yet!

I've been using Territorial for the past 5 years. We grow for our own fresh consumption as well as canning and freezing. We also sell produce to Chefs locally. We have never had a Territorial seed not germinate. The quality of their seed is excellent- even if kept for years before planting! (I had some 3 year old, unopened packets, that I tried last year and they were just as productive as seeds packed for the current growing season.) I cannot recommend this company highly enough.

Territorial has a great catalogue, with very detailed planting instructions for vegetables. Their website could use some work...it is somewhat difficult to navigate, and the cart empties after a very short period of time if you do not check out right away. This is not a big problem if you only have a few items in the cart, but if you are ordering many items and have not kept a list, then the cart empties, AAGH!

However, I do like their plant selection, the fact that less than 2% of their seeds are chemically treated, and their $4.25 SH per order, adding additional shipping costs only on heavy items. Sure makes it nice when you realize two days later that you need something else from them...
They also have very competitive prices on gardening accessories.

I will definitely continue to order from Territorial.

For gardeners here in the maritime northwest, Territorial Seed offers a fine selection, clearly written expectations of what the variety offered will do here and what they personally like about the variety. No hyperbole!! Plus their "sample" packs contain as much seed as most seed companiesregular packets, great rates of germination and superior customer service....the best of the best!!

I have found this company to be of great service to me. I moved here from New York and gardening here is so different. They have helped me learn the differences. Also what grows well here. All the seed has been good and very productive for me.
The people are friendly and helpful.

If you garden in the Pacific Northwest this is a must catalog. They even have a seperate catalog for winter gardening. I have found that the seeds are very good for this area. I have not had any problems with the seeds or the service. This is the first catalog that I order from.

Good selection, timely turn around from purchase to receiving goods. Nice selection of non-seed items also.

- Customer service/order system needs to be improved. Last year, I received fertilizer which had leaked all over the package due to their poor packaging. Customer service never responded to my complaint. This year, my order was a month late, so I contacted them. They had trouble finding my order and I finally received some of it (they did not bill me for missing items).
