Comments regarding Bluestone Perennials

Ordered from here because of ratings. Very nice plants, excellent packaging & quick service. Ordered 2nd time (1/2 price sale). Still very pleased. A few plants didn't weather trip very well. Contacted company. Very cooperative. Now being sent 2nd replacement (not to be considered a negative aspect--point is, plant damaged in shipping--company replaced 2nd time with no questions). Will order again. VERY PLEASED WITH PLANT SIZE, ROOT GROWTH & CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!

5***** for this company...I ordered from SpringHill 2 yrs ago, and received dead plants, missing plants and sticks...and then wrong replacements weeks later... I was verrrry wary of mail order again but BlueStone exceeded any hopes I had and then some...My plants arrived within a week of my order but that was because I ordered over the weekend..

I ordered 2 Clematis, a Giant Pussy Willow, and a Silver Lace Vine, and all arrived in excellent condition, very well packed in peanuts, and still damp soil...They even included a bag of fertilizer pellets for the plants...Who does that?? One of my Clematis does not look too happy today, so I will keep an eye on it, but the other is going gangbusters...

They will be getting ALL of my business from now on...

This was my first time mailordering plants, and I couldn't be happier. I think the packing peanuts are a brilliant way to secure the plants during transport, and it's fun digging around in them to get your treasures out!!!

The Blue Angel hosta was HUGE - so much nicer than I was expecting. All the other plants are doing very well, I'm a complete n00b at the whole gardening thing but their website and catalog really inspire me. (I ordered a fern, some columbine, delphinium, hosta and blanket flowers).

One of my plants had a slug on it! I was all "Welcome to Wolverine country, you Buckeye gastropod!" I had never seen one up close, so I was actually kinda fascinated, and there was no damage to any of my plants at all.

So all in all - quick shipping, quality packaging, stellar product, great price, and they sent me a new friend. A+ all the way!

First of all, I would rate this company an A++ due to my consistently good experience with them over the past 6 years. Most recently, I ordered over $70 worth of plants during the half-price sale ($140 or more value) and when I received them I was horrified by the state they were in. I can best describe this as most like shake-n-bake: the plant were in a box 5x too big and dirt, packing peanuts, and pots were everywhere along with hot and humid air. The plants did not look well, and very beat up. Upon closer inspection it was clear that along the way they were repackaged by the the delivery service since it was not a bluestone box, the address label was cut out and taped to this box and it was missing the miniture agricultural label. I called Bluestone and within 5 minutes, I had a replacement order entered by very helpful staff. I have received this order and all plants are looking great and should do well.

I placed my first 2 orders with Bluestone this spring based on the good feedback they had received. I was not disappointed! Everything came in great shape. My problem was our Ohio spring was not cooperating with my planting plans. It rained and was too cold to plant most of the plants, consequently, some of the plants did not care for life in my sunroom waiting for to go in the ground. But when I was able to finaly get them planted, four plants did not survive. I emailed Bluestone about the loss and they sent out the replacements the next day! Their service is good, they are quick to reply to questions, plants are great and they have a knockout catalog!

After woeful transactions with SpringHill who delayed shipments 3 months from the original ship date, the process from internet order to delivery was 12 days! I took advantage of the end-of-season sale and am hugely impressed that they are not bare root, but potted shrubs, big thumbs up!

I will return and you should definitely give them a try!

I love, love, love this company. Have ordered several times this season and everything is so well packed. Had a problem with 2 of the "little spires" not making it and they immediately sent replacements - no questions asked. All the other items I have received are doing great. Wonderful customer service. Very knowledgeable staff. I always am confident that I will be taken care of when I place an order with these great folks! And their specials are GREAT!

I have always received healthy plants from BlueStone. Even when they had to send me smaller plants, then the ones I ordered, they gave me a credit voucher. All the plants I received from them were healthy and thrived in my garden. I will continue to order from them and recommend them to my friends!

I have ordered from Bluestone Perennials for the first time this year. I received all my plants except for the miniature hollyhocks, which I learned wouldn't be available until August. I didn't want to wait that long, so the very helpful customer service rep offered to cancel them and send me my choice of a substitution which is still available for shipping right now. I decided on blue scabiosa to replace the hollyhocks, which I think I will enjoy more, anyway. And even though the scabbys cost slightly more than the hollyhocks, she made an even trade so I wouldn't owe anymore money. Now that's great service! Thus far, the other plants seem healthy. I will definitely order from this company again. I like their broad selection.

I received two orders from Bluestone this year. One in April and one in May. This was the first year to buy from Bluestone. I was unhappy about not receiving the two plants I wanted the most on the first order (crop was lost on one and the other was backordered). I did receive a credit voucher with the initial shipment for the no longer available plant. When I explained this to Pat (who emailed a quick response) I was offered another selection which pleased me. I understand that sometimes a crop could be lost for various reasons. When my second order arrived it contained another credit voucher for the difference in cost for the replacement as well as the substitute I requested and the "prize" plant that was originally backordered.

All of the plants have done very well, didn't have a problem with any of the plants. They were packed well and I'm excited about having a new source for plants that come with excellent customer service. I plan on purchasing more from Bluestone next spring....can hardly wait.

I placed two orders with Bluestone this year - my first time with them. All plants were very healthy looking. Their catalog and website have a nice variety of plants. I'm sure I'll order from them in the future.

I received my plant order from my participation in a co-op group and even with the few days of holding and packing time the plants I received were in great condition and showing good growth.

I'm new to perennials so for the first year or two I'll be trial and erroring it but I really think that Bluestone is a great source of a wide variety of plants.

I've ordered many times from Bluestone and have always been very pleased.
Last spring, I ordered the sunny border garden. Even being tiny, all the plants thrived and bloomed last summer and this year they look incredible. They've all doubled in size and the garden is gorgeous. I'm thrilled. Thank you Bluestone for such a great garden at an incredible price!

I really like this company...Their plants are great and so is the packaging...I don't mind the styrofoam peanuts...It's almost like unwrapping a present :)

I will absolutely order from them again, especially during their 1/2 price sale.

I have ordered from this company more than once, and will definately be ordering again! I just received my shipment that I ordered during their half price sale and thought I might not be as thrilled as normal. Was I wrong. The stokes asters were sold in groups of 3 and had blooms on all three plants! I would have been happy with these plants even had I paid full price, but with the sales they have you just can't go wrong. We had temps in the mid 90's today and my plants were top notch. Thanks UPS! Good Company.

I discovered Bluestone Perennials last year and am very pleased with their plants. I have ordered asters, sun drops, rose campion and clematis from them. All the plants arrived quickly and extremely healthy. I haven't lost anything. Their prices are great too!

I had ordered from Bluestone many years ago and just made a recent order this spring off their website's half-price sale. All of the plants arrived in great shape. I was expecting root bound and overgrown plants - since it was a sale, but the plants were perfect. I'll keep an eye out for their sale again next year.

Very Very Good! Love the search engine. Have a mostly clay site where deers nibble in zone x and you need a groundcover?.done.

They also have lists that narrow the searches. Just want to look for plants that like clay? They have that too.

I'm a suburban gardener that works full time and takes care of the family too...I don't have time to mess about wandering through "big boxes" and giant nurseries hoping to find the last platycodon.

Plants arrived healthy and the size advertised even though they were 1/2 price and the delivery driver turned the box on it's side!

I ordered my clearance plants on a Friday and received them the following Friday (there was a holiday in between). I was amazed that so many plants could come in one box and every one of them was in great shape. This was my first order with them and I will order again.

My order of 5 healthy and beautiful plants was received today in perfect condition. The plants were larger than I had expected, especially as they were on sale at half price. One plant was large enough that it needed to be folded over within the box, and it was done so expertly that it was standing upright soon after opening the box. This company deserves its ranking in the top 30.

Just received my order from the spring 50% off sale. Plants look great! Large for their pots and certainly quite healthy. They were carefully packed and arrived without any spilled soil or damage. I will certainly order from them again.

I orderred a Blue Satin Hibiscus and an Artic Queen Clematis from Bluestone during their Memorial Weekend sale.

Got very decent prices for them, and since they were on sale I was expecting them to be a little beat up and not the best service.

I was suprised to see just the opposite. I got them within the week, and they were VERY nice! Green leaves prouting everywhere on both, packaged SO carefully and they even gave me little fertilizer pellets to plant with them.

I am VERY impressed.

I order from this vendor in the spring. I ordered several different plants. I was pleased by how they were packed and they have done well. Their print catalog is veeerrry easy to use for the novice. I found it very helpful.

Wow! Just got my order this afternoon, I couldn't believe how big and healthy the plants were. Wonderful packing, everything arrived in great shape. So nice to be able to get plants our local nursery doesn't carry or has at a much higher price.

I ordered from Blue Stone back in March. The plants arrived at the correct time but were kinda small. This was the second place I had ordered and received plants from and being new at this I was not sure what to expect. So far some of the hosta have died. I am not so pleased with the size of the plants. I can get that price of plant at the big box store and they looked better.

I have ordered from Bluestone Perennials every year for the past 5 years, and have always been pleased with the plants and their customer service. One year, I discovered that one of the ornamental grasses I had ordered was very invasive in my mild-climate home; I contacted Bluestone Perennials with my concern, and asked if I could cancel the original grass and substitute MIscanthus. They immediately agreed to the substitution with no question, and at the same price, though the Miscanthus was a more expensive grass.

This last year, I placed my order, as usual, and they were shipped in early April, which is ordinarily an excellent time, here in zone 7. The plants arrived in excellent shape, as usual. The next day, we had a late snowstorm, and from then until the first week in May, we had temperatures below freezing nearly every night. All the plants survived, except one Geranium. Considering what the poor plants went through with severe weather and my neglect in moving them to a more sheltered location, the loss of one is not a surprise, and I certainly can't fault Bluestone Perennials for it. In fact, the hardiness of the surviving plants is a testimonial to how healthy and well-developed their plants are before shipment! The surviving plants are all doing very well, and I'm pleased with everything I've recieved from them. I will continue to order from them in the future.

Excellent is how I describe the service from Bluestone Perennials. The pricing was great (i got all half priced plants), the communication was very good ( I knew my plants had shipped), the packing was great (plants unharmed), valuable instructions on how to care for plants out the box and how to plant. All are healthy and in the ground - it was all a good deal. thank-you

I've ordered from Bluestone Perennials three or four times, all this year. It's true that many of their plants are pretty small and young (something Bluestone fully discloses: //www.bluestoneperennials.com/b/bp/faq.html#old), but for the price I think they're a very good deal. Bluestone was one of the few places I was able to find asperula odorata (sweet woodruff), and those plants have been doing very well. Likewise the sedum 'autumn joy' -- which came in a three pack of 3-inch pots. Once in the ground they really established themselves well. Some ground phlox I ordered has done a bit less well, but I blame that on my being less than prompt in getting them in the ground.

If you're looking for bargains on perennials and don't mind waiting a bit for the plants to mature, I think Bluestone is a good choice.

My only real complaint is the packing material. I just can't stand styrofoam peanuts, and while I think they do let buyers return the packing material for a credit on their next order's shipping, I still just hate the stuff. Better if the orders came with shredded paper, or something that could be recycled or composted.

Overall, I recommend Bluestone.

I have ordered from them several times. The plants may seem small when they arrive, but sure are healthy because in no time they reach their full size. My original order was their Butterfly Garden. The first year it filled in nicely, this year it is already glorious. Next year, I'll be dividing things. My last (huge) order did have a few plants that didn't make it. Bluestone immediately sent replacements that are doing fine. In addition, two of my coreopsis plants from an earlier order did not winter over and they replaced them. Excellent customer service...a plus for mail-order companies. A friend recommended them to me and I've recommended them to others.

I ordered about $400 worth of plants from Bluestone based on everyone's reviews here (I actually canceled a deeply discounted SpringHill order based on the scary feedback they had). I was not disappointed. Stuff showed up just in time. Plants were a bit small but healthy. They sent the wrong gaillardia and one hydrangea was broken, but they quickly replaced them. Overall a great experience, I will use them again.

I ordered 2 Bunnera "Jack Frost" from Bluestone Perennials. They are good sized plants that look very healthy. The plants were shipped very quickly and well packaged after I ordered them on line. I am quite pleased and will order again from this company.

The plants they sell are of above average quality. I can't call them the biggest or best plants that I've ever bought by mail. But they are definetly well above average. The prices are fair. The email communication is very good -- they let you know what is going on with your order. And the shipping was reasonably fast. They carry a lot of interesting plants, so I'm happy to have discovered that they do a good job of mail order perennials.

I ordered several types of ornamental grasses in mid October of 2007. The plants were half off and it would be a close call on if they would be able to establish roots before the cold weather hit. many lived and a few died. I just called to ask if I could get two replaced and with no questions asked I am now getting two new plants to replace the ones that did not live. In fact the exact ornamental that I wanted would not be available until fall of 2008, however I was able to substitute another type. That is fantastic customer service! I have ordered several times from them and will continue to do so.

I had placed an order and when three of the plants arrived they needed help. I tried to keep them going but they didn't make it. I contacted Bluestone and they were very understanding. They told me they would have no more of that type of plant until fall and then they could replace it. Or I could choose something else. They stayed in contact and today I received the replacement I asked for and it is very healthy. I would recommend them highly and I will be ordering from them again.

We ordered several ARTEMISIA Valerie Finnis. I was a bit surprised by how small they were for the price. But we acclimated them and planted them. They are thriving and growing quickly. The catalog is beautiful and they have a wonderful selection. Plants were packaged very well, too. Will order from them again in the future.

I too placed a order in the fall using Bluestone's coupons. I have purchased plants from this nursery a few times over the years and have never been disappointed. In fact, the perennial garden at our previous home was a major selling point- many plants came from Bluestone. This time around, the plants were smaller and looked rather tired, but a letter of explanation was enclosed concerning the bad weather growing season- and I received a discount/ credit due to the size and non-availability of one particular item. I planted what was sent about a week ago and they all look great- they have recovered nicely and have shown signs of new growth. I also received a free "surprise" 3-pack of healthy plants. However, one was for Zone 6, and I am in Zone 4. I mentioned this is an email concerning where to put my credit- and they sent me a brand new 3-pack for free! I wasn't expecting that at all!!! I definitely will purchase from Bluestone again, and recommend them to gardening friends.

Received my order of brown-eyed susans; they arrived in wonderful shape and size. I have had some bad experiences with mail-order before, but thanks to Dave's Garden, I was able to find a keeper!

I really enjoyed my experience with this company. The plants I received are thriving in my garden. I also like that they give you credit for your next order's S/H if you return the packaging to them. I will be ordering from them again!
