Used to be my # 1 online source but has been going downhill for the past couple of years. This year, plants are smaller than supermarket seasonal offerings and much more expensive. Box of 14 plants was two feet high and long while plants were only around 7", including pots. Packing forms way too big to hold such small 2 1/4 inch pots. Most were dislodged with typical FedEx mishandling and had a lot of soil and broken leaves and branches at the bottom of the carton. Think most can be salvaged though just barely. Won't order from them again as there are now too many other sources that are far superior. Very disappointed.

Dodges7, I am very sorry to hear this about the condition of the plants on arrival. In order to try and elimate plastics, we have switched to a cardboard system for shipments, so yes the boxes are larger to allow for our different sized plants. I would certainly like to hear your comments about our service going downhill over the last couple of years. Please email us at help @ growjoy.com and ask for Joe. Also, we have a satisfaction guarantee, so let us know if there is anything we need to do regarding this years plants. I hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Joe Stutzman with GrowJoy "

I love this company! They package the plants very nicely and most of time the plants are in excellent condition. If they aren't or they happen not to make it, GrowJoy always makes good on it. They either replace the item or give you credit. I've been ordering from them for several years and have always been pleased.

During the last year and a half my husband and I have chosen to use our time of isolation from Covid to do something fulfilling....we have landscaped and worked in our garden. Since I have chosen not to go shopping in person a good portion of the pandemic, I turned to online plant shopping. I had good luck and bad. GrowJoy was very good. The quality of the plants was excellent. Their communication has also been excellent, when I have had questions. They delivered the plants in a very reasonable time considering the pandemic. I am definitely a repeat customer and intend to continue that long after the pandemic.

I have ordered plants from Grow Joy for several years now, and have never been disappointed.
I have plants shipped to me and I have also ordered and picked them up directly at the Greenhouse in Berne.
I only order the plants and flowers when they are on sale, that way I can get more for less.
Compared to other online plant operations, I have found that Grow Joy has far better plants than the others.
When I opt for direct ship, they have always arrived in really great, healthy condition.
Hopefully going forward, they will continue to have specials, so I can continue to order from them.

Thank you GrowJoy, for being such a great online plant company. I have always been very happy with the hundreds of plants I have received from you these last few years!
I appreciate the way you send each beautiful, healthy plant in special packaging that protects them from breaking and keeps them from drying out.

I received a large order of plants, shrubs, herbs and annuals in May 2021. Everything I ordered was packed perfectly, as usual, and all of the plants were beautiful and healthy.
Six plants (out of 62) were missing, and I figured they would come at a later date.

Everything I planted flourished very well, as always. A month later, I received my 3 mums and they were very big and healthy. I still wondered about the other 3 plants. So I sent an email, and the next day, I got an email back from Customer Service saying they were sorry that those kind of plants hadn't grown well. She said the cost of them had been put back on my credit card. I really appreciated being taken care of that way.

I waited for the last plant to come, and called and emailed and didn't get any answer, so I figured with the Covid going on, that your GrowJoy company might be having problems with less employees, the same trouble other companies were having.

So I went on your GrowJoy website and clicked on "Contact Us" and created a ticket about the other missing plant and submitted it. I got a really nice email the next day from Customer Service that the plant was not available to ship, and I had been given credit points for it. I will be glad to use them on my next order.

Once again, the Customer Service was very helpful and caring. Going to the "Contact Us" on the GrowJoy website and creating a ticket is the fastest way to get help from Customer Service.

Thanks to having all of these wonderful GrowJoy plants blooming so beautifully in my gardens, I was chosen to be on the garden tour for our county this year!
Thank You, GrowJoy!!

GrowJoy does an amazing job shipping healthy live plants long distances - I ordered several this summer and they were packed so carefully in special protective shipping cartons, they arrived with their soil still moist and not a leaf damaged. The worst company to deal with. They took orders, delayed sending plants. One order had a cancelled item on it. The other order was dead.

I immediately reported both situations to GrowJoy. They have switched to handling "customer Service" only through email and yet they do not respond.

Because "Customer Service" is only handled through email, there is no way to contact them. They owe me a small amount of money but there is no way to get to them. Indiana requires a fee to file in Small Claims Court which makes it not worth the effort.

They send out marketing emails but will not answer their customers. The claim of guaranteed customers is ridiculous....

The corporate decision to stop answering their phones, stop answering their emails and yet continue to market new product is both a bad business but reeks of unethical behavior.

For several years I have used GrowJoy because their products were very good, their staff were helpful, and their orders were extremely well packed for shipment.

But following their business reorganization there were many subtle, less than positive changes. For instance, their prices increased substantially, staff assistance became less helpful, and particularly vexing was they would aggressively advertise products yet when a customer went to order that product it would be listed as not available.

Recently I placed an order which qualified for free shipping but after several inquiries I have received no response nor was the shipping fee voided.

It appears GrowJoy no longer values good customer relations. Thus I am voicing this complaint and will no longer do business with them.

Charles,

I cannot apologize enough for the experience you have had with us this year. This year has been unlike any other, we started opening our second location down in Alabama but had issues with contractors from the start. There were many days, and weeks at a time they would not show up to get the job completed. This put us in a very rough spot, when it came to start shipping. We had to delay shipping by a few weeks, and with that had hundreds of emails coming in a day.

Our main location, is located in Indiana. We also had staffing shortages here, and could not keep up with the amount of orders coming in a day and emails/calls. We had to make a tough decision and move all of our customer service representatives outside to help with the shipping/growing process. This lasted all of June. At the beginning of July, we opened a new ticketing system for customer inquires and no longer have access to the old emails.

Over the years as prices go up, we have had to increase our pricing on some plants and on shipping. The average order costs $20 to ship, and seeds/plugs prices have gone up. We had to adjust accordingly.

You should have received free shipping on your order, and I am so sorry that you were charged. I am unsure as to why, when your order qualified. I know its late, but I have issued a refund back to your original payment method.

If you have any other issues or concerns, please go to [HYPERLINK@growjoy.happyfox.com] and we would be more than happy to assist.

I usually order every year for nearly 10 years. Last year they were sold out of everything I needed so it was suggested I order early. I ordered in January 2021 for delivery late May early June (2021).

I ordered 39 plants and after a few promises that it would be shipped a small box the size of a notebook finally arrived in the middle of June. The small box contained just 3 plants. Inside was a packing slip indicating all of my 39 plants were inside this tiny little box. The shipping label said "1 of 1" and that the box weighed 27 pounds. I think not, it barely weighed a pound. I normally received 3 -4 very large boxes. I believe they did this on purpose because I sent them a note letting them know how frustrated I was with their service and indicated "I hate you" on the email. It's the truth...I hate them. This is how I plan my meals and food for the summer and fall. Two years in a row my vegetable garden is crap. Next year I will just drive around to greenhouses in the area to find what I need. NEVER again will I order from this company.

I've sent numerous emails with no response. I messaged them on FB (then shortly after they removed the message option) with no response and posted on their page, still no response. I expect a full refund.

Meanwhile I filed a complaint with UPS and the Better Business Bureau. Tomorrow I will dispute the $262 charge with my bank.

I live in Northern Wisconsin, it's June 24th and there is no way even IF they sent me the rest of my plants that I would have enough time to plant them and see them to maturation. We have a short growing season this far north.

I also find it interesting that "Ashley" the customer service person made the time to respond to a few complaints on this blog yet I've never heard from anyone.

Placed 3 orders with Growjoy in late January, early February totaling 15 plants. They were scheduled for shipment by mid February. Growjoy charged me for the orders the very day they were received by them.

The February shipment date was missed. A few days later they sent an email advising that shipments would be made the end of February due to their bad weather.

When that date passed and a week or so went by I emailed Growjoy. Their reply was that they had moved and were experiencing unexpected delays.

On March 20th I received a box from Growjoy containing 13 plants. They were in pots with cellophane wrapped around them to keep the soil in place. Unfortunately the cellophane was held in place by a single rubber band wrapped around the base of the plants. The rubber band broke or bent many of the plant leaves. It appears that four of the plants will not survive. Only two plants were received undamaged. The rest have what I guess is a 50/50 chance to survive.

I immediately emailed Growjoy about the shipment and subsequently sent two additional emails. To date I have not received a reply. I have tried calling Growjoy, just to get a recording.

If this is how they treat customers, they should take down where it says "guaranteed satisfaction" on their website.

On April 6th, 2021, crvarvaro added the following:

On March 26th I received the following email from Growjoy:

I am so sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We have been extremely busy these last few weeks due to the influx in orders, phone calls, and emails. We are trying our hardest to get in touch with every customer as soon as possible.

I cannot apologize enough that you were not only missing plants from your order, but some arrived with damaged steams and leaves. This is not how we want any of our plants to arrive.

I checked into our greenhouse location in Alabama, where your order shipped from, it looks like they had a crop failure on the Durabella™ Crazy Love™ Flower Combination and Cascadias™ Bicolor Cabernet Petunia Plant so they were unable to include them with your order.

I can process a refund back to your original payment method for the plants, or I could add reward points to your account in the amount of the plants if you wanted to reorder at a later date.

The plants that arrived with damaged stems, would you let me know which plant those were and if you think they will be okay after transplanting. If you do not feel like they will be okay, please let me know and I can either get those refunded or add reward points.

I responded by asking that the missing plants and four plants that were so badly mangled that they could not recover be replaced.

On April 6th I received the following email:

I cannot apologize enough this is not our typical response time, I am working as hard as I can every day to get back in touch with every customer. We have had hundreds of emails coming in everyday, it has been very rough so far this year. We are working on getting more customer service representatives to help with the demand.

I was able to get the plants replaced and scheduled to ship out 4/18. I am attaching a copy of the replacement invoice. Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience and experience you've had with us so far.

If/when the plants are received I will report on their condition.

Small plants and heavily stretched. They grow in 2 1/4” pots, not 4”. That gives you about 40% of a normal nursery pot. But they are sold at a premium price. The plants are more like overgrown plugs. I recently ordered several hardy Hibiscus (rose mallow) from GrowJoy. The plants arrived in excellent condition due to the way they were shipped and packaged. Shipping was 2 day delivery and each plant was protected by an individual plastic container. The plants were very small (they were rooted cuttings about 4 to 6 inches tall). I realize sending larger plants would add to the shipping cost and growing time in the nursery, but it would also make customers much more satisfied if the plants were more mature. For example, I can purchase from a local grower 2 year old blooming hardy Hibiscus in one gallon pots for about the same price ($12). I ordered some plants from this company, including a Bloomsdale heirloom spinach plant. The other plants were fine, but the spinach was not. It never looked healthy, and eventually ended up dying. They asked me to take a picture of the plant, which I did, so then they sent me a replacement. Well, it wasn't much better. Never seemed that healthy. It lived a little longer than the first plant, but eventually succumbed as well. As I said, the other plants I ordered lived just fine, so the problem was definitely with their spinach plants.

I went to their Web site to rate the Bloomsdale heirloom spinach. giving it a negative review. Guess what? My review never showed up. So, I left another one. And what do you think happened? It didn't show up either. Interesting, huh? ;)

It seems obvious that GHS suppresses honest negative reviews of their products on their Web site. So, not only are their Bloomsdale spinach plants not worth buying, but GHS is dishonest about publishing customer feedback. Apparently, like a lot of dishonest companies, they only want positive reviews. If you want to submit a negative review, don't bother, because it will just be deleted. Or at least my comments were.

On July 10th, 2016, onilollaig added the following:

Joe,

Thank you for your comments. As for a refund, I appreciate the offer, but it really isn't worth the trouble, since the plant wasn't that expensive. I just simply won't order that plant again.

Concerning the review, I posted that a long time ago. And I find it difficult to believe that it simply hasn't been approved yet because of a backlog. I'll check again in a few weeks, and if the review ever shows up, I'll mention that here. Otherwise, my comments stand.

As for giving you my order number, that doesn't make any sense. To post a review on your Web site, it never even asks for your order number, so I don't understand how that would help. Regardless, you shouldn't have to supply an order number to post a review, because customers deserve to have their identities protected.

Anyway, thank you for your comments, but my Neutral rating stands.

Dear onilollaig: First I am sorry for the poor spinach plants. Have we already refunded you for it? If not, please email us at info@gardenharvestsupply.com and we will certainly do so. As far as the negative ratings, we do get them; however there are very few. We do look over each review before it goes "live". This is done to keep out spam. The reason yours (and many other reviews) hasn't shown up is that we are way behind in getting them posted. If you would reply here with your order number I will track down the review and get it posted. Thanks for your comments. Sincerely, Joe

Thanks for the reply. A review can be left without an account. However most folks do it through our system, which is connected to an order number. Without one, we cannot take care of any issues, such as this one where you aren't using your name. We have also found that negative reviews done without going through the system are generally spam, and we don't post them unless we can verify they are from a customer. If you happened to post it without going through the email we would have sent you, it may have been deleted as spam. If you want to email it to us at the address I posted, I am happy to get it posted for you. Joe"

I placed yet another order with GHS, and once again, am very pleased with the plants I received. Plants were well-packaged and came through the shipping just fine, even in the heat. Very pleased with all my orders from Garden Harvest Supply this spring and early summer, and will use them as my main source from now on for online plant shopping.

Just received a large order from Garden Harvest Supply today, and am once again completely happy with my order. The plants were so well-packaged and all look nice and healthy, most were already flowering and will go straight into my garden. Love GHS!

Received another order from GHS, veggies this time, and was once again well-pleased. The tomatoes and peppers are growing well in our garden.

My last order with GHS was in late spring last year, and a few of the plants I ordered during their clearance sale did not make it through shipment. GHS quickly refunded me for those few plants. Everything else I ordered from them did well (a large number of annuals, perennials, even vegetables), and I'm happy with their customer service. They're still my favorite online garden center and I am looking forward to ordering again this spring.

Received a huge order from GHS last week, including three full 50-count trays of annuals and I am amazed at how well they were packaged and shipped. The plants are all healthy and not a one was out of the tray. Good job GHS.
On February 4th, 2015, Sherry77 added the following:

Once again, I'm looking forward to ordering from GHS, and am hoping to be happier this year with my orders. The majority of plants I have received from them has been excellent and my rating is still, overall, positive.

I have been a customer of GHS for many years now, and will order from them again this spring. I was unhappy with part of my order last year, but the company took care of the problem and replaced the plants. I contacted Garden Harvest supply by phone. The customer service was very friendly and helpful. I had a question about their Miss Huff Lantanas, and they were able to answer my questions. I never order from a company that has poor customer service or lacks knowledge about the products they sell. But Garden Harvest Supply was very friendly and professional and pretty knowledgable about what plants they sold.
I am definitely going to purchase approximately 18 Miss Huff Lantana plants this Spring, but I haven't decided whether to order from Garden Harvest Supply or ComNur.com. Both companies are excellent. It will probably come down to which company has the best offer on Miss Huff Lantanas.

On May 9th, 2013, Gardeningman added the following:

I decided to order from Garden Harvest Supply (GHS), and the folks there were absolutely wonderful every step of the way. Stephni and Mandy were especially helpful. (They were able to put up with me, and that alone speaks volumes for their patience and professionalism. lol) There was one small “hick-up’ in the process. There was a crop failure, so the Miss Huff Lantanas I ordered were not available. GHS e-mailed me with the option of either a refund or choosing a different cultivar of lantana. I was pretty disappointed, but it wasn’t their fault. I know they don’t enjoy crop failures any more than their customers do, because it may cost them some good business. Anyway, I chose two different cultivars of lantanas: Dallas Red and Confetti.
The lantanas arrived yesterday along with a couple of Black Knight Butterfly Bush plants and a Carolina Salsa Lantana plant. ALL of the plants were in superb condition, and the packing was the best I’ve ever seen. The little plastic pots were enclosed inside larger plastic cartons, which were packed in the shipping box with paper around them, so no dirt was spilled and the plants remained undisturbed during the shipping process.
The plants were healthy with very well-developed roots for the size of the plants. Right after I planted them yesterday evening, it stormed with heavy rain, gusting wind, and pounding hail. One of the Confetti’s was even submerged under water. I was really worried that I had killed my brand new plants. However, the plants were just fine, and I attribute a lot of that to the health of the plants.
I definitely recommend Garden Harvest Supply for anyone wanting to buy perennial plants.
On May 7th, 2014, Gardeningman added the following:

This is the second time I ordered from Garden Harvest Supply. Once again, the customer service was great. Mandy is always very helpful and polite. I received my order in two days! I ordered a variety of plants, and my order this time looked even better than last time. I was extremely impressed.
The one Sum and Substance Hosta I ordered is the only plant I'm a little concerned about. It has one eye, which appears to be healthy and two leaves. One leaf is very yellow and the other leaf is crispy around the edges, but I will plant it and see what happens. I have a great little hosta bed on the north side of my house that all of my other hostas are thriving in. Besides, hostas are easy to grow and very resilient. This one should be fine, but only time will tell for sure.
Anyway, I am still extremely impressed with my order. The Autumn Joy Sedums are huge and robust and everything looks great. I can't wait to plant it all tomorrow evening. Great job, GHS! I appreciate your commitment to quality products and quality customer service.
On May 22nd, 2014, Gardeningman added the following:

Garden Harvest Supply (GHS) continues to impress me. Out of the 15 plants I ordered from GHS this last time, only two of them weren't well enough developed to make it. And that has never happened before. They were an Autumn Charm Sedum and a Sum & Substance Hosta. I notified GHS, and they immediately sent me two replacement plants at no additional charge. The replacement Autumn Charm Sedum was actually one of their premium plants in a quart size container. I was very impressed. The Sum & Substance Hosta was regular sized but much healthier looking than the first one. Thanks again, GHS.

On August 14th, 2014, Gardeningman added the following:

This year I ordered two Russian Sage plants, 2 Autumn Charm plants, 4 Autumn Joy plants, 1 Sum and Substance Hosta, and 6 Son Sonset Lantanas from Garden Harvest Supply (GHS). Everything is doing really, really well. The Sum and Substance Hosta is growing well. The Sedums and Russian Sages are planted together and are absolutely beautiful. The Sedums are getting ready to bloom and the Russian Sages are already big and full of lavender colored blooms. The Sonset lantanas are huge! It’s hard to believe that those little bitty plants from 4” pots have grown into 5' x 2’ shrubs.
I have photos that I will post sometime.
On April 14th, 2015, Gardeningman added the following:

All of my plants from Garden Harvest Supply have returned and are looking great. I order a bunch more plants from them this year including several shrubs. They are also grown in 3-4 inch pots. However, the perennials had such a good root system and a lot of top growth that I had to give the shrubs a try too. I am looking forward to getting my plants in the mail. Again, Mandy has given world-class customer service. I've changed my order several times, but she graciously and gladly makes the changes for me each time. I appreciate her and all the wonderful people at Garden Harvest Supply, my new go to source for perennial plants.
On May 14th, 2015, Gardeningman added the following:

I just received my third order from Garden Harvest Supply (GHS). I ordered a total of 34 plants, the most I have ordered so far. Almost everything looks great. The plants came very well packaged and extremely healthy with well-developed root systems. They are now thriving in my gardens.
Unfortunately, two plants arrived in a condition in which I was unable to plant them: their stems/trunks were broken and are now dead. 32 out of 34 plants arriving in perfect health isn't bad though. I've repeatedly tried to contact GHS about the plants that arrived damaged but haven't received a response. I'm sure there is a logical explanation. GHS usually always has wonderful customer service.
On May 14th, 2015, Gardeningman added the following:

Joe, thanks for contacting me. Yes, I did get the reply from Mandy. I have been having trouble with my new e-mail provider, so that is probably the reason why you didn't receive my first e-mails. I knew there was a logical explanation for the delay, and as I assumed, no fault of yours. Thanks again for being so helpful and cooperative. I'm not surprised at all, since Garden Harvest Supply has proven repeatedly to be a company of integrity and transparency in their dealings with their customers. Thanks again.

I ordered a herb plant a few weeks ago, but the description on the plant tag did not match the description on the Web site, nor did the picture of the flowers. I called customer service and talked to Joe--he told me that he would contact the nursery to find out more information and then call me back. However, he never called back. A couple of days later, I called again and got an answering machine, so I left a message stating that I was still waiting to hear from Joe. Guess what--nobody ever called me back.

So, I disputed the charge with my credit-card company. Because it was a small charge, the CC company told me that GHS won't get a chargeback, even though the CC company credited me for the purchase. That's too bad, because I think GHS deserves a chargeback.

Anyway, if you're looking for decent customer service, look elsewhere, because their customer service stinks. And look at your plant tags closely, because you may not be getting what you actually ordered.

OK, I went and checked my e-mail, and that is correct--there is one from Mandy. I don't check my e-mail that often, though, so I missed it. However, 3 important points:

1) You did *not* call me back as you promised, so I was left hanging.
2) When I called back (during normal business hours) after a few days, I couldn't reach anybody at GHS. Why is that? And I also mentioned in my voice-mail message that I was waiting for you to return my call. But still, no one ever called me back.
3) An e-mail is NOT a substitute for a promised phone call. Not everybody checks their e-mail regularly--I know that I don't. Besides, it's far less personal. I was waiting for a *phone call* (as you promised), not an e-mail.

Well, since someone did send me an e-mail (after I had to call back and leave a message), I am changing the rating from Negative to Neutral. I have ordered from GHS for a few years now. I have never had a problem with their plants - they are always very healthy and extremely well packed. This year was no different - the plants were sprinting right out of the box. I also really appreciate their potted vegetable and fruit options for those of us who have very small gardens and only two people to feed, and therefore don't have the room or the need to start dozens of seeds in March and April.

I got two mums, two cucumber plants, one watermelon, one cantaloupe, one mojito mint, 4 basil and a number of jade beans from them - all very healthy. I am still waiting for the sprint peas I ordered, but they emailed me and let me know that they were not ready to ship yet and I am willing to wait an extra week for healthy plants.

Update: I continue to be truly impressed by this company. After a slight delay, they had to cancel my order for sprint peas because there was a problem with the crop. They were very good about it, apologized and refunded me my money immediately. And then a few weeks later (yesterday, to be exact), they sent me sprint pea plants from their new crop. Free of charge, a complete surprise to me - I didn't have any idea they were going to do that. I am so impressed that I am ordering some more plants from them tonight. They now have a loyal long-term customer.

I am finding it hard to get ahold of customer service regarding this issue - would love it if I can get store credit instead of replacement sugar sprints as both of them were dead on arrival while the rest of the plants I received are doing completely fine.
