Comments regarding Lee Valley Tools, Ltd.

A recent order from Lee Valley arrived within days, well packed and the goods high quality. I have consistently been pleased by this company. They are prompt, accurate and the products high quality. I regularly will order from them any product that they carry.

i am from Ottawa, Canada. one year, while visiting my cousin, Elaine L. in Napeen (a 'burb of Ottawa), she said she needed something at this Lee Valley place and would i like to go considering how i loved to garden.

it was like christmas in july! i felt like a kid in a toy store or candy shop! i was beside myself with glee. if you garden or to fine woodworking and you can get to a store, DO IT!! if you can't get to a store, get their catalog! or if you can’t wait for the latest catalog, go on line. i save my old catalogs for two or three years! when it comes in the mail, i make myself a pot o'tea and curl up with pen and pad in hand. it is ‘THE’ gardener’s wish book! NO PLANTS, just the stuff to make your gardening life easier.

they have the coolest stuff! i love their linking stakes! i have all sizes and will buy more. get their bulb auger drill bit. it is so cool! i order the quick connect hose attachments too. these will spare your wrists! it is the only way i connect my hoses in the garden.

one thing that has nothing to do with gardening that i found in the gardening catalog was the little book darts. they are a true serendipitous find. i belong to a great book club and i usually have a tiny tin handy at all times while reading to mark passages. i give them as gifts to fellow members. everyone loves to get them!

there is nothing like coming home from work and seeing the parcel with the lee valley return address on it sitting on my porch! you will be excited too, once you start ordering from them.

ps. their web site is very easy to use and very clear. i enjoy using it.

Lee Valley is an excellent company to do business with. Their prices are generally better than other garden related mail order companies and their customer service is excellent.

For example, I ordered a pedestal for a sundial I had previously purchased from them. Lee Valley learned that the pedestal was defective (i.e. the finish would run and stain concrete, etc.). I was sent a letter describing the problem, before I even knew it existed, and promised a replacement. Apparently they were unable to obtain replacements of satisfactory quality, but upon finding this out they promptly sent me a check to cover the original purchase cost including shipping. Talk about service!

I've been buying from Lee Valley for over 8 years now and would recommend them to anyone.

Excellent company! Their prices on many tools, gadgets, etc. are absolutely the best, and they carry many things you don't find elsewhere. I have purchased many small garden tools over the years, as well as books, garden journals, kitchen items, and other oddball things, and have always been satisfied. Their delivery is unbelievably speedy, too, and customer service is friendly and helpful.

One cool little thing they offer that is an excellent purchase for gardeners: little surgical scrub brushes by the dozen, very cheap and incredibly useful for all kinds of gardening uses, including getting that dirt out of fingernails, cracks, and cuticles.

Occasionally they will offer something they've gotten as a special purchase that might be of a different quality than we might perhaps expect. One thing I like about this company is that if this is the case they will tell you so right in the catalog - I ordered some unbelievably cheap little tin boats for Christmas presents one year, and the copy informed us that these were made in India a long time ago and might have sharp edges and some little rust spots. They did, as advertised, but they were perfectly adequate for what they were, and I appreciate the integrity of a company that tells you what to expect.

This is the first place I look when I need a new garden tool. I have never been disappointed.

Excellent! Purchased a new British spading fork via their display at the SF Garden Show 2004. Staff knows tools and could explain why this or that was better or advantageous. No pressure sales, sales person quickly finished order up with receipt, very organized, etc. Fork arrived when they said it would in fine shape.
My first purchase from this company, will do so again!

I have ordered twice - both were confirmed via e-mail and provided tracking information. Everything arrived within a week.

Everyting arrived as promised. The cart that I ordered went together with minimal effort because everything fit and the directions were good.

Who could ask for better service! I placed an order late on a Tuesday and received my package Friday afternoon. I'm speechless!

Remembering the Watchdog 20 high rating of this company, I visited their display at the Philly Flower Show 2004. Wow! What high quality merchandise they had displayed.. and the help was outstanding, knowledgeable and calm even among the throngs of flower show browsers at their booth. I ordered several things (nothing for direct buy at the time; order with free shipping within 7 - 10 days). I cannot wait to get what I previewed -- knowing the looks, feel and quality since I got to see and handle what I ordered.

On 3/7/04 I ordered 2 of their baluster molds. Today 3/10/04 (and I am in Oh) I unpacked these beautiful (to me) molds and they are exactly what I have wanted for like, 10 yrs......These are strong, well made, with very good directions for use, Include bolts and the packing is exceptional, 2 boxes inside a larger box with lots of 'void' packing (which I will recycle) and the whole thing strapped 6 rounds. The shipping only cost me 8 1/2
bucks and the molds 49.50ea which for what I can do with them is miniscule by comparison. Like everyone says This is a GREAT Company. [Once again Garden Watchdog, Thank You for making life so much easier.]

excellent merchandise, prices are a little scary until you see the quality. I will never buy another shovel.

I ordered hardware at the wrong measurement--which was my fault and their customer service was generous--they replaced the hardware with the correct size, paid for the shipping and refunded the difference in the price. I also checked other companies and Lee's prices were far better than any I could find--even Lowe's. I would do business with them again.

My Mother died before Christmas, 2003, and three days before the holday, I realized I had not yet bought my husband his gifts. I whipped out my favorite catalogs, all from Lee Valley, and I called them. They saw to it that all gifts I ordered arrived on time, working with me to get the best shipping prices at that late date.
I LOVE Lee Valley Tools---their products, services, employees on the phones, and their very funny catalogs.

I bought their gardening fork and spade in June of 2001. Much to my dismay the fork handle snapped off this Spring.
I just thought "oh well", but noticed in their catalog they say they will replace them anytime, so I emailed them, not really expecting a reply.
Got a reply instantly telling me to return the fork and they would send a replacement and pay me for shipping. Which they did very promptly.
What a delight to deal with that sort of company!

In the fall of 2003 I ordered a mini-greenhouse for approximately $70.00. First of all, my Lee Valley order arrived within two business days, which is amazingly fast.

This week, in January of 2004, I received a letter from Lee Valley informing me that since they had decided to put the mini-greenhouse on sale after I had bought one, they were refunding me the difference, and enclosed was a cheque for nearly $14.00.

I hadn't even known about the sale, and even if I had I would never have expected a refund two months later.

This is customer service like I have never experienced before. I just had to let people know.

I like dealing with Lee Valley. I bought a folding pruning saw from them and it worked very well. Imagine my surprise to receive a letter and a new saw blade from them. They explained that they'd received complaints about the quality of the blade and were sending an improved replacement. What great service.

They are one of the few companies that solicit customer feedback. They _want_ to know of any items their customers think they should stock. What a novel concept; good service and encouragement of customer feedback!

I love their catalogue. It is clear, blunt and a hoot to read - 'this is the best framus made and we make it'. No legalistic pussy footing or tap dancing there. I read the catalogue in sheer admiration of great marketing prose.

Very, very nice company. Great products. Someone was selling some air-layering containers on ebay and I found them at Lee Valley for much less. I don't think the prices are high, nor is the shipping (and I live in New Orleans, and Lee Valley is in Canada!) I only wish all of my experiances online were this good.

The products are unique, functional, and of high quality. Service and shipping is great. The only drawback I have found is that the prices are generally outrageousely and unreasonably expensive.

I have been ordering from this company for 10+ years and very pleased. I like the greenhouse shade material very much. I have sun in the front of the house in the a.m.and in the back of the house p.m. I use the greenhouse shade material on all the windows and it cuts down the temperature 15 to 20 degrees from the outside to the inside. Makes it much more comfortable in the house, and for sleeping. Good service, prompt shipping, good quality and some items that you can't find anywhere else. Wouldn't be without them. Have rec'd gifts from others too from this company.

Very good quality, low prices and excellent customer service. I order more from this garden supply company than any other by far. The one time I had to return an item (my fault for ordering the wrong size), response was quick, and they even refunded the postage even though my mistake. Excellent in every way.

I have been using Lee Valley products for over 5 years. Shopped at 2 of their storefronts in Canada several times and have ordered by catalog numerous times. Each experience has been great. They are kind,courteous, helpful and professional all at the same time! I just won't order from anyone else. Their return policy is so generous, too. And, just call customer service with a question about one of their items. They take the time to fully explain and make sure you are satisfied.

I must add to the chorus of positive ratings for this company. Maybe it's the exchange rate, but they always seem to have slightly lower prices than other catalogues. The shipping is surprisingly low, considering they're in Canada and I'm in the US. Everything I've ordered from them has been 100% satisfactory. Once, about a year after I ordered outdoor plant shelves with a plastic zip cover, they sent a letter stating that some customers had found that the plastic cover was a little flimsy, and I should simply return the postpaid card if I wanted another cover free! (Mine was fine, so I didn't return the card, but I was quite impressed by their dedication to customer service.)

I ordered some green plastic plant markers with aluminum inserts and was very pleased. They look very good and have a good design for reuse. Another satisfied customer.

This is a great company with lots of great supplies and products. I have ordered from them several times and have found their products to be top notch! :o)

I've had two different order, both orders were well packed and exactly like I had pictured them. One item was back ordered, but I knew that when I ordered and it arrived at my house before the expected ship date. All in all good quality equipment and good prices.

I have ordered from Lee Valley Tools at least two times over the last three years and have been very pleased with their products and service.

My favorite for supplies, hands-down. Service is fast, product quality is superior for the price. I, too, appreciate the earth-friendly packaging.

I would also like to add my positive comments about this great company. Have been dealing with them for years. One year I emailed them inquiring about a product that I was trying to find. They emailed me the same day & explained that it did not meet their high standards so they wouldn't carry it. I appreciated the comment & I didn't waste my time or money looking for it elsewhere. I would like to recommend their 5-1/2" pocket pruners for every day deadheading. They are just terrific for a woman's hand. I have introduced several people to them & they also think they are great for every day use. They are very fast in the shipping dept.

Been dealing with them for years....one proviso: you could go broke just walking in to their store! Hide from your spouse when you return home. LOL! The variety of merchandise and "must haves" is just incredible....... and beyond their garden section is an entire woodworkers emporium..... this company is fantabulous!

A flashlight I ordered didn't work. They sent me a new one as well as the postage to return the defective one. I had also purchased an item a year and a half ago that wasn't working. I mentioned that in the initial email and they sent me a new one. Didn't need a receipt! Then after all that they sent me a thank you letter for returning the defective flashlight so quickly.

Can customer service get any better than that?

I highly recommend Lee Valley Tools! I only learned of this company last year at the Philly Flower show, but they have been made a permanent part of the mail order / online companies I use. I had a problem with a pair of gloves wearing through and called them and was not only sent a new pair of gloves, but when they received back the defective pair I received a phone call from the company asking how much I had spent in return postage as they wanted to credit my account the proper amount! I rate this company a big A+++!
