I ordered 10 burning bushes, 3 blood grass, and a patriot hosta from Greenwood this spring. I commend them for shipping out exactly when they promised, and the packaging was good when they arrived. However, I am a little disappointed in the burning bushes. They stated that they would be "9 to 15 inches branched" and they are mostly single stem twigs. They will look hilarious next to the Red twig Dogwoods that I ordered from Miller's that were advertised to be "1.5-2 ft" and are actually 2.5-3 ft very branched healthy shrubs. I guess I will just have to baby the burning bushes along.

On December 8th, 2007, MelJayTanner added the following:

update:
the burning bushes actually grew quite a bit this past year, so I am happy with them. However, none of the bloodgrass survived the winter, and they were quite expensive.

I just found this site while trying to locate a better company for both customer service and quality. In 2004, I ordered three "premium" redbud trees for over $150. I had one die immediately and the other two didn't make it through the winter, after carefully watering, etc in our harsh Colorado climate.

I also had been given a "bonus" 25 butterfly bushes for my expensive order and all 25 were dead in the dirt with never a leaf or sprout of life. I mentioned this to Steve and Cheryl and they didn't seem to bat an eye to my displeasure. I corresponded probably a half of dozen times with them and neither offered any replacements trees or mentioned their guarantee. Not until I actually brought this up on the 6th or 7th email did they even acknowledge a guarantee.

I would look elsewhere if I were you. The roots on my trees were also severely pruned back and I wonder if this was the cause of all three not making it a year planted. They, of course, seemed to always think it was my faulty planting skills. I planted over 30 total plants that spring and only 5-6 things died, all 3 of their trees and 2 potted groundcovers plus a potted lavendar from Home Depot. I don't think I was particularly poor at my tasks as all my holly bushes (7) and juniper tree and Dogwood tree and barberries, boxwoods, cotoneasters, hibiscus, and even two roses did fine!

You be the judge but I think for the price and poor service, go to your local nursery or HomeDepot, Wal-mart for that matter for some things!

I purchased 13 Knockout Roses, 5 Japanese Snowball Trees and 1 Nikko Blue Hydrangea from Greenwood Nursery this Spring. The plants were all packed very carefully and received in near perfect condition - it was quite an impressive packing job. One of the Knockout Roses suffered root damage from the journey, but the company is sending a replacement for free.

The Knockout Roses are a bit smaller than I expected, and vary in size from 5 inches to 12 inches, but they seem to be of quality stock and should even out soon enough. They were shipped in 1 quart containers. Several of the little bushes already have buds on them, and one of them is in bloom right now. It's a tiny little plant, but the bloom is beautiful. I hope they grow fast! The company also offers roses in 1 gallon containers, but they are significantly more expensive, and since this is my first season gardening, I didn't want to invest that much money into something I may kill.

The Japanese Snowball Trees were shipped bare root and tightly wrapped in soggy shredded newspaper to keep them moist. The trees stand about 3 feet tall and have seemingly healthy root systems. They have been planted for less than a week now, but I see no reason why they would not thrive.

The Nikko Blue Hydrangea was a lot smaller than I expected, but it is very healthy and vibrant. The leaves are firm and a beautiful bright green color. I noticed after three days of being planted in a large container though that the leaves were wilting and turning brown, so I dug it up and found that the roots were browning too. I called the Customer Service Department at Greenwood Nursery, and the agent told me to plant it in the ground, because these plants are not recommended for containers. After just one day of being in the ground, the plant has perked right back up!

The only complaint I have about Greenwood Nursery is that they do not provide enough information on how to plant and care for your newly planted items. I'm not sure when I can start fertilizing my roses, how much to water the plants or what plants can be placed in containers. I almost killed that poor little hydrangea due to ignorance. It would be nice if their website contained more comprehensive information on things like this. It would also be beneficial if their boxes were stamped "fragile". They do such a great job packing things, but the UPS man playing "Kick The Cheat" could still harm the fragile contents.

I will certainly be ordering from Greenwood Nursery again in the future, and they are at the top of my recommendation list for online gardening retailers, unless of course all my plants die.

After a couple more weeks the three were really staring to grow. The other two were just dead sticks. I emailed the company and no one ever returned my email. Well one is blooming and the other two are really growing. I was still mad about the two that didn't make it. I really wanted the peppermint colored plant (one of the two that never grew). All the flowring shrubs I bought from them have come up beautiful. I expect blooming next year and judging by the healthy foliage, I wont have any trouble there.

I ordered from Greenwood because of their high approval rating here. Most of my plants arrived in great condition. I did order 3 yews which were a very good size but were very yellow. I checked the website and the picture there also looked yellow, so I felt maybe the plants were supposed to look that way until they broke dormancy. After about 6 weeks, only 1 had any growth and the other 2 were mostly brown. I emailed them and they sent 2 more out very quickly. Compared to many other nurseries (both on and off the web), I feel that Greenwood is responsive and their prices are reasonable.

Plants arrived alive and in good shape and were planted immediately. They were received without any buds, but after about a week and a half, all are showing signs of life and have begun budding after daily watering. Price for the plants was very competitive. Unfortunately I still have yet to receive my order and when I phoned to follow-up on it I had the additional surprise of having a customer service agent snap at me on the phone that the orders were still being processed and to wait for Fed-Ex to email me my confirmation date and hang-up the phone while I was in the middle of talking.

If this is how Greenwood Nursery appreciates and takes care of their customers I'll take my business elsewhere where its appreciated and I am treated respectfully. I have emailed the owner of my experience and await his response.
So unfortunately I cannot leave any positive feedback after this negative experience.

The owner also extended a willingness to assist me personally once the order arrived should I have any questions in regards to the plants which I thought was very good personalization on the end of the company. Although this began on a sour note it certainly has been turned into a positive experience even though I have to admit that the bad memory from the rep's behavior still lingers in my mind and it is the only thing that keeps me from issuing a positive review.

As with most everyone else's experience, the order arrived in a timely fashion, and the roots were very well packaged in wet shredded newspaper wrapped in cellophane. So far in the two weeks since I've received them, I have planted over half (I ordered around 125 plants). All that aren't planted yet are doing fine sitting in a bathtub in the dark where I spray them periodically. The sizes of all the plants were as advertised, except for a couple of Autumn Olives that were tiny sprigs, and one of the Japanese Snowballs was dissapointingly small. However, I haven't complained because I have plenty extra, and some of them were larger than expected, so fair is fair. I will update this after all are planted and I can see how they are doing. So far, some of them don't show signs of budding yet, but do have green in the stems, so I'm not worried. None of them appear dead, and all roots appeared healthy.

I recently ordered 50 Western Sand Cherries. Was emailed immediately with the status of my order. Was also emailed with the expected delivery date and FedEx tracking number Everthing was well packed for shipping and the trees arrived healthy and ready to plant and at the right time for my zone. Communication was excellent and the price was fair. I would order from them again without a second thought.

My first order with them. Picked them mainly because I needed 450 groundcover plants and they were the cheapest for these plants. The plants arrived well packed in groups of 25 and all on very good shape. No dead plants, no wilted or small plants.

When you register, you get 10% off all orders for the first week, so be sure to register only when you are ready to order. Also received free shipping and 25 small butterfly bushes free (not sure what to do with that many - guess I'll give many to friends).

I ordered 2 Northstar Cherries and 1 pink crabapple. Not only did they come in great shape, they were bigger than I was told and they were just setting bud, ready to be thrown in the ground. I got an email stating the day they would be delivered and got out there that morning to dig the holes and prep the soil. I had just finished the last of it and the FEDEX truck came right up to the curb. The trees were packed well, clearly makred and were healthy. I put them in the ground within 20 minutes of them coming off the truck. I can't say enough good about these folks and I garden by mail a LOT. I understand that not everything goes perfect when you order by mail, but his prices were GREAT and I was expecting much LESS in the way of service and plant material. He surprised me and I couldn't be happier! As a matter of fact I am ordering 50(!) lilacs from him to screen out my neighbor, and I eagerly await them!
