Time for the pests to show up

Good for you, Sherrie. I hope the Geta gottem

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I saw plenty yesterday after the rain. When I had the koi, they would go right into the pond.

Maybe they saw you coming and wanted to commit suicide

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

killed more of those beetles yesterday on the hibiscus - so far they have only found the one in the back yard - the three out front are safe - i've decided that chemical warfare is required.

I've been finding way too many slugs this season!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I do not have any slugs but tons of snails, tiny little ones, it has eaten up the dahlia just about to emerge from the ground

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Oh no! That's terrible, Maria. Now you've made me think to go check our newly-emerging dahlias. I'll have to do that at the kiddos naptime.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I think this weather has made it slug season!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I agree. It's been awfully wet. I'm hoping for a more moderate July.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

If July is warmer, maybe it will kill them off for us. Or make them run and hide. Either would be good!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

This was a dinner plate dahlia last year but surviving the winter, look what the snails did, underneath is crushed garlic may be too late, the new ones much too small to see damage

Earlier this year I made a new bed just for annuals, since I do not have many of them.It started to rain, this "river" was sitting in there for days though I dug down about 12" nothing but clay

several days later, I used 10 bags of compost and same amount of soil to mount to pile up mostly in the center creating gullies on the edge of this about 15' by3' area. when it rained and rained water kept floating in the gullies and I finally planted. It was very hard work for me at my age without help

Here is what it looks like now

That's beautiful! You did a stupendous job, Maria. Your zinnias look great. They make such a nice bouquet. My mom loves it when I bring in flowers for her room.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Maria, that's awesome! And even more outstanding, given your longevity as a gardener. Just goes to show you, where there's a will, there's a way. You are very inspiring.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Thanks Jan and Candyce, but keep thinking I will not be able to do that next year but so far I have not quit after 62 years of gardening when I first was married at 18.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

what on earth eats marigolds???... my neighbors are torn up so bad they look like skeletons.. she looked so surprised I had no idea

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Are they the ones that have the classic marigold scent? if so, very weird.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

they are just whatever walmart or HD sell... I would think so

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Ummm...bunny rabbits would eat Marigolds. All 18 of these were lunch..

Slugs disappeared after I put the bug-getta down. Dont know if it was that or if it dried up and they left. Its raining now so I guess I will be able to tell soon.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Some of our marigolds did that too, Allison. I can't remember what it was, though, that ate them.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I'm not having a problem with pests. They've all washed out to sea. If it keeps raining I may be joining them.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

LOL Venu, you have at least one devilish pest, the RAIN!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

rabbits might be the answer Pixie

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)
