My mom collasped yesterday afternoon and we had her taken to the hospital. They have come to the conclusion the she has colon cancer and a blocked Carotid Artery. She is still in there today and we don't know yet when she will be coming home. She has had tons of tests and 2 pints of blood. She is looking better and is still smiling and in a good mood. She has refused to have any invasive procedures so will be coming home soon I hope.
My Mom
So sorry to hear this.....will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers. Went there with my father so I know what you are going through....(((HUGS)))
Trisha
Good thoughts sent your way.
Hugs
BIG hugs and prayers coming your way. Please know that we are here to support you however we can. Let her know that we are thinking of her.
Oh Willow, so sorry to hear your bad news. Keeping you and your mother in my thoughts today. Hugs.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts. She will be coming home tomorrow with hospice care. I have a neighbor who is a Home Health Care Provider and she will also be helping out. My DB is coming down from Alaska and will be here tonight and I also have two sisters who will be with me as they can. The Dr. said maximun will probably be a month. She said today she will be glad to be back home. Although she likes the food. Guess I will have to start cooking again.
Willow, I'm keeping your mom, your family, and you in my thoughts as you go through this tough time. I am glad you have good support around you, and that your brother and sisters can come to be with her as well.
Willow keeping you all in our prayers. Our 90 year old neighbor is coming home fro m the hospital tomorrow with Hospice care also.....she just wants to be home. (((hugs))))
Willow, This is belated as I just got back to the real world today, but my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family also. I am so glad that she is able to come home to you and spend time with her family.
It is an unbearable situation, but at least you can treasure every remaining day, feel blessed for each meal that you are able to fix for her, and you can all take strength from the love of your family.
Hugs and blessings sent to all of you...
Thank you all. I feel doublly blessed to have had my mom with me for 70+ years. My Dad died 6 years ago, so we had him for a long time also. My mom's four sisters all lived into their 90's, one to 98, so we do have some longevity in our family. Your good thoughts really help.
Glad to hear she will be home. Hospice is WONDERFUL!!!!!! Hugs and prayers for you all during this transition time.
Patricia, I just saw this and I'm so sorry. A months isn't very long and it's a long time, as well. What a blessing for your mother that she has a daughter who loves her so much.
Strength to you during this difficult time. My thoughts are with you. And please send all our love to your mom, as well. Let her know her daughters friends are keeping her in their prayers.
Kathy
I will pass on your good wishes to mom. My little sis came to the hospital today and helped me get her home. She is so light I can pick her up. She doesn't believe it though. My brother will be here this evening and the care taker is coming up to cut her hair. They have a on-going joke about that. She's in a good mood and glad to be in her own bed.
Thanks
Thinking of you tonight
Patricia, just got to this thread as well. Life is so tough some times, but we can all hope that we will have the kind of love that you are able to share with your mom for the coming days. We are thinking of you.
Willow, I'm so sorry. I'll be keeping you, your mom, and the rest of the family in my prayers and praying for a gentle and loving transition.
Gwen
Willow, thinking of you today and praying for the whole family.
Wow thanks for all the flowers. They are great. Hospice came today and got everything set up. Donna came up and cut mom's hair and gave her a bath. Mom is feeling pretty good and is sitting up and talking to my DB for hours. We will soon have a hospital bed and a bedside tray table to go with our commode.
We are having a lazy day today. Everyone is exhausted with the heat and the trama going on. The cool weather is so nice. I must go out and take some pictures before is rains again.
Thanks Sally. I do have one of those frames and I do show her the pictures. I keep a small bouquet of what is in bloom in her room. My DD gave me a small DVD player and she is watching some wifdlife DVD's that she had collected and never seen. My DB sits with her most of the day, which has really been a help.
Willow, just got here and so sorry to hear about your Mom. Hospice is a good alternative I have seen them really got to bat for their patients. I lost my sister last year to breast cancer and she was under the car of Hospice. When her insurance ran out they continued their vigilant care of her. This is what medicine should be all about.
Thinking of you all tonight!
Just saw this as well, keeping you all in HIS hands as HE is the best for us. The good thing is that your mom is where she wants to be and with her most precious things in her life, her children and the love they are all giving her.
D
Thank you all. You are very kind. DGer's are the best.
The first hospice nurse came this morn. Mom's hand on her numb side is warm now and her fingers are tingling. The nurse was amazed that had happened so soon after the stroke.
That's wonderful!!
Willow, I'm so sorry, I just saw this thread. My thoughts are with you and your family.
I've heard those hospice services are fantastic, very kind and helpful folks. It's good news your mom is recovering quickly from her stroke, too.
Willow, we don't plan for times like this, and I suppose if we did, it would still be tough.
Glad to know that Mom is recovering, and that you're able to spend time with her.
Continuing prayers for her & your family.
Sorry if what I said was misleading. She has some slight feeling back but she still has terminal colon cancer. The stroke she had was caused by her blocked carotid artery. The hospital bed and bedside tray and wheelchair came today. The bed is great and has made it so much easier. Mom grins everytime she gets raised or lowered.
Yes, we love my mom's bed also. We also got an automatically inflatable pad that changes the pressure periodically to help prevent pressure sores. It is great!
Hugs and prayers.
The guy that delivered the bed said the mattress was constructed to help prevent bed sores and to not put pads of thick things over it. We shall see.
