And so on to #219 . . . following on from #218 here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/994640/
Here's a specially designed island built for Common Terns to nest on at a local reserve, with all sorts of defences to keep predators off. Probably 11 pairs of terns nesting this year.

Daily pics vol. 219
Resin, the Tern island such a good thing to see happening. Is it something you're directly involved in? The second shot of the Swans is beautiful.
Wow 10 cygnets, how wonderful!
Nice pics Resin! Thanks for starting the new thread!
Pretty ducks knip!
NMJane, Nice shots on the last thread.

Thanks!
Nice pics Ma_McGee! Welcome to the forum!
Isn't that last one a Great Crested Flycatcher?

gardenpom - I think you are correct. I am familiar with Phoebes and this seemed larger - plus the yellow on it's chest didn't fit for me as a Phoebe. I have never seen a Great Crested Flycatcher before. I have been asking myself, "Who's singing?" Maybe now, I know! Thanks.
Thank you Pelletory. :)
Here is a bluebird on patrol...
Ooops, yes, Great Crested Flycatcher! Somehow I didn't look carefully enough!

Nice photos, everyone.
Grandmaggie, your pics are of a 'Great Egret'.
Great pics everyone!
Jane, I love the Stilts and Avocet!!
Both adults, actually! They're doing their 'broken-wing' distraction display to lead you away from their eggs / young chicks.
Resin
Resin, thanks for the correction. They sure had me convinced that they couldn't fly yet; so I thought they must be young ones. I looked for the small chicks; but didn't see any of them.
A minute later, the tables turned and the little bird was chasing the hawk. That really had me puzzled until I looked at the pictures on my computer and realized the little bird was a juvy hawk. Mom or Dad, whichever the case might be, was apparently teaching the little one how to hunt.
Does anybody know what type of hawk this is? I looked at all of the in-flight hawk photos in Sibleys and couldn't find one that matched the white upper & dark lower wing, and the rusty neck area.
