There you are!!!
Colocasia "Mojito"
I ordered the Borneo Giant, but don't think I got the other one. I just LOVE the anticipation of waiting for a box of plants. :>) "Almost" as good as a box of chocolate. Now, Brian, if you'd include a bag of M&M's with each order for every lady, you'd have a following for life. :>)
LOL something to consider I am sure. The Mojitos are looking good I will try to take some photos soon and post them up. Non are identical some are more blotched than others but all look nice and healthy.
Soooo..............any idea when you are sending me my alo's and chocolate....oops, I mean, just the alo's? Weather is nice here, no problem in shipping, I'm thinking.
Well if it is Alo. Borneo Giant they are still small and a bit slow to start. We got them in extremely small this season and they are moving along but to small for me to be happy with.
Let's see...........Borneo Giant, Diamond Head, Giant Thailand, Jack's Giant, and Mojito. That's what I had on my "order" list. Can you tell I like big stuff?????
Anna Z, How did you keep them? In the house?? It's cold there!!! Mine are big like that too. Mine are in the house. Julie
Oh, that photo is before I butchered them. I have a large greenhouse. No more soil left in those pots, so just broke them off and divided them. Now I have lots of kids. :>)
Great!! I have a lot of those babies too!!!
Pretty!!!
How big do the leaves on Mojito get?
Got my order from Brian's Botanicals on Thursday. Nice plants........:>) Thanks, Brian.
Pretty large, 10" x 12" I'd say
I went to Brian's place yesterday.. I spent a lot!! Still want more!!! Thanks Brian!!!!
You know, Juliep127, it's not nice to gloat when the rest of us live too far away to hop in our cars and go and make obscenely large purchases. LOLOL Probably a good thing I do NOT live close by............I would need to have another greenhouse. :>) I hope this shuts me up for a bit.........my order that came the other day, I mean.
I know. I shouldn't gloat. I was just happy to get'em!!! My wallet's empty though, so that is a bad thing!!! LOL Julie
Mine was only half empty after the BB's purchases, so i took the other half and sent an order to Logees.............Bwahahahaha..............Only place I've been able to find Madagascar Jasmine for a decent price. Found some local last year but they wanted my firstborn son along with too many $$. Pfffttt on that..........so I went without. They were nice plants, tho, but I can wait and grow my own that big. Just takes longer.
Hate to tell you but I just got 2 Mojito's at closeout prices at a nursery in Middletown, OH.
They were busting out of 4" square pots.
Mislabeled as 'Black Magic' and 'Illustris' they were in the 3 for $10 bin, so I picked up a 'Baby Tut' papyrus too.
Earlier in the day at another place up there we picked up 'Black Diamond' for 30% off so $12.99 for an 8" pot....again blowing out the seams.
BD can only be described as the color of good black patent leather.
I've not seen one picture do it justice.
Coal, and I mean Coal Black and Alocasia Shiny in the Sun!
This year we have added them, Gigantea, Stingray and Sarian.
This picture of 'Diamond Head' is close but not black enough.

yeah its pretty much always better to buy local if you can
I didn't see a photo of Black Diamond. You didn't mean Diamond Head, did you?
Yikes yes I did.... I've edited my post... lol!
If the rains ever stop here I'll try to get a shot.
You have Rain?? Lucky you. It's about 98F here at the moment, heat index is about 106. I just finished containerizing what was left over of my Blue Tannia (Xanthosoma violacea) after the pigs got to it last night.
I dug up and potted the 'remains' of Diamond Head, Royal Hilo, Maui Magic and Pineapple Princess a couple days ago for the same reason
Feral pigs, or just yours that got out??? As bad as cows running through the yard and garden. Which they only do after a good, soaking rain, or early in the spring after "someone" forgets to shut the gate. Jeez, they all cavort like calves when that happens. Around these parts, it ain't spring till the cows make a few turns through the yard.
I remember one year when we still had pigs, and the old boar got out and was rooting through my yard. I was so freekin' mad when I found him I picked up a good sized rock and let it fly at him. Oh, cwap..........I think i"m gonna miss him and it's gonna go through the plate glass bedroom window that was about 5x5. Yeah, I missed the boar, but thank God my aim was SO bad I missed the window too. LOL
feral pigs
They call them "Florida Wild Hogs" but they are really Wild Boar. They are quite dangerous and cause a whole lot of damage
I used to hunt them down there w/ my G-Uncle.
Tough and quite dangerous if angered.
I never had any close calls but my G-U had a bunch of serious scars.
Course he hunted them for over 50 years. W/ a hand gun or bow.
Here's our new 'Mojito' now repotted in a 5 gallon pot.
(Used a mix of my compost and manure.)
The roots were 2' long.
Geez, feral hogs!!, and I thought I had problems with Key deer and iguanas.

I have considered getting a rifle andshooting them. I have two guns, a .38 (which would be less than worthless) and a .357 Magnum which would probably do the job, but I'd have to be at very close range. I haven;t fired off a 'long gun' since my grandpa and I used to shoot hornets nests with a 12 gauge shotgun in Dallas, LOL that was maybe 40 years ago. But I'm tempted.
When you walk down my little 'country lane' you will hear the pitter patter of corn feeders in the neighbor's yards going off, they are trying to attract them into traps and get them close enough to be shot. But seriously only a few have been bagged.
Yesterday I potted up NINE full 3 gallon containers of Xanthosoma violacea (Blue tannia) that had been growing in the same place by my driveway for 6 years. The pigs came through and rotted almost every plant up and left them lying in the driveway. Some of these plants were 3-4 ft tall. At least they were able to be salvaged, But the flowerbed is decimated. This is a 'before' photo from last year I think. Not there anymore
I think I'd be planning a whole hog BBQ real soon...............I have the Sweet Baby Ray's........
I've been to many of them down there Anna.
May G-Uncle had a freezer in the Living Room!
Over the freezer were chains of Tusks. BIG TUSKS.
Weapon of choice back them, his a 45, mine a shotgun.
Can't or shouldn't use a long rifle in FL...too flat....
you miss and you'd hit something in the next county. YIKES!
Prepared right they are great!
In fact they had a lake island where they neutered the males as piglets as well as hunted. Big and slow and delish! lol!
I was told by someone who lives in the wilds of Australia that they won;t eat them over there because they are a little too omnivorous. They eat pretty much anything...road kill, carrion carcasses out in the woods, a variety of plants some of which could be toxic to people, they ingest small living animals like rats when they root stuff up and also eat bugs and worms. I don;t think I'd eat the meat from one, even if I wasn't a vegetarian, but I know some people do.
I figure cooking will kill anything bad. LOL
I love the Xans! I think I only have one now but grew quite a few before I moved.
'seed actually turned me on to several sources for different Xans.
Jungle Jim's here near Cincy stocks them from many different countries in the veggie section.
Has anyone got any seed pods on thier mojito? I found one that has ripened seeds and also a few more flowers. I don't know if it pollinated itself or crossed with another colocasia in the yard.
