Cannelton, IN(Zone 6b)

Thanks everyone.
torriesmom, The blooms are 4" round and it looks like sunshinesw's posted above which would be Ackermanii. Here's a pic I took this AM

WOW!! Amazing blooms everyone! Feuerzauber is beautiful! And, I love pink so I absolutely adore Grace Ann and the one called Space Rocket, it looks like it glows! Ackermanii is gorgeous too! I received a few Epi cuttings when I first joined DG a couple of years ago and I think one was labeled Ackermanii. I have not taken the best care of my Epi's so haven't had any blooms yet! I am hoping some of them are red's and pinks.

I noticed buds on my E. hookeri this morning and the oxypetalum that I've had for a long time finally had 3 buds show up last week ... two blasted but the one left is looking good! I am going to be watching and waiting for it to open!

This is the one and only bud on oxypetalum. Is E. oxy a fragrant one?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I did not notice any fragrant but my smellier does not work to good. LOL

Sandy the epi nut.

(Zone 1)

I have read that E. hookeri is fragrant but I didn't detect any scent on mine when it bloomed last year. I was hoping oxypetalum would be fragrant! :(

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Well it could be as I said my smeller does not work to well but there was something there when mine bloomed.

I get 2 more epis at the plant swap. One is a ric rac I now have 3 different types. I wonder how many kinds of "ric rac" epi's there are.

Sandy

(Zone 1)

I have only heard of two with the common name of Ric Rac or Rick Rack:

Selenicereus anthonyanus: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/62665/

Epiphyllum anguligar: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/54204/

New York, NY(Zone 6b)

What a beautiful bunch of blooms. It look like it would make a beautiful wedding bouquet. At least I would want one that look like that. May I be the flower girl and carry the flowers?.
Just Beautiful. Thanks for the ohhh ahhh's this afternoon.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the sites but if you look at the pictures there is a wide range of shapes in them. There maybe a couple of subspecies. I will have to take picture of the different leave forms that I have--that is if I have sun tomorrow. LOL

Oh my goodness .. is that Epi. oxypetalum? Gorgeous!

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks LIn, yes I wish you could smell it.

(Zone 1)

Hopefully I will see the bloom on mine soon! I keep watching the one bud ... bound and determined I am not going to miss the bloom and the fragrance!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Nice job with the oxypetalum!! I love the fragrance when mine flowers. Smell-o-vision would still be nice though!

Smashedcactus definitely gets the award for show stopper! very nice! well done!

(Zone 1)

My large Epiphyllum hookeri has had five or six large buds but I've missed the blooming the past few nights since it's out in a corner of the backyard. But, I have a small pot on the pool deck and it had two blooms open, one night before last and another last night/early this morning. The skeeters are so bad outside I had to bring it in to take a picture. This was at 1:00 a.m. this morning.

Nice! Did you notice a scent?

(Zone 1)

Nope, no fragrance whatsoever on E. hookeri.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Lovely flower.

(Zone 1)

Thanks Sandy. I just need to get an Epi or two that bloom during the daytime!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I wonder if they are only fragrant at certain times....

I thought mine smelt like an earthy vanilla. Not a strong scent.

I will have to see what mine does, maybe I am thinking of a different one.

Regardless, they are incredible flowers! Glad you brought that one in to show us!

Deep Run, NC(Zone 7b)

Sandy: Last year you sent me some cuttings and some seeds. My seeds sprouted but after a year are only about a 1/4 inch tall. Is this how slow they grow or am I not doing something right? bob

Refresh my memory what seeds did I send you? If they where epis then they do get a slow start but if you feed them often they take off. Also need more water than the adults.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Remember my E. guatamala? Well now, what should I do about this? This is my first and only epi...so far.

Hope you don't mind me butting in here. I'm new at the Epi thing. I just got a bout a dozen of Dragon Fruit and about a dozen Epis. all colors I could find. I'm in zone 7 and was wondering about how to take care of them. I know they will need to be inside for winter but was wondering about how often to feed them and with what kind of plant food? I also was told to put something for them to climb up like trellis or something (for the dragon fruit) Now I see them in hanging baskets. Those are pretty, will they be ok long in hanging baskets? I wondering how fast they grow, and what ever you can tell me on their care.( both dragon fruits and the other Epis.) Thanks for anything you can tell me.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Well where to start.

Epis are not all the same, some climb and some hang and some do a little of both. Some grow really fast and some do not.

You will need to protect them from the cold.

Everyone has a different idea about feeding. Mine is 10-10-10 once a month except in Dec, Jan, and Feb when you either do not feed at all or give them 0-10-10. I am experimenting with some other feedings. Still learning.

Here are a couple of info sites. http://www.easycactus.co.uk/site/content/view/16/1/
http://www.theamateursdigest.com/epis.htm

Hope this helps and a few more jump in with their ideas.

Thanks Sandy for sharing your expertise with us. Your collection is remarkable. One of these days I'll be a convert. lol. For now, my Oxy Epi. is making a 2nd flush of buds. Just love these plants!

Thanks Sandy. I appreciate the sites. I'll be reading up.

Deep Run, NC(Zone 7b)

Sandy: I, too, use 10-10-10 for my Epies at least once monthly. I don't stop feeding for the rest period like I know I should. I just try to remember to slow down a little during the winter months. My plants are growing extremely well except for some 1 inch seedlings which continue to just stand there dormant. Don't know what to do about them. bob

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

You can feet the seedlings more often than the older plants.
Plus they do grow slowly
