I am going to build a second shade/green house for the hanging pots. Probable next year.

I pinched the buds on the cuttings. But I think it get to cold out there and that put the older plants back. Oh well there is always next year.

Hi everyone,
I'm gonna have to jump in to this discussion. Because of WNYwillieB putting up the link for the epi cuttings, I'm now the proud owner (in transit) of one cutting and two different types of seeds. Talk about addicting!! Just reading this forum and looking at all the pretty pics was all it took! Even tho I love cacti and succulents and do have a coupla epi's already, I just HAD to have more. I wanted one of everything that was left on that site but... you know how tight money is for some (most) of us right now. I settled on a dragon fruit, a selenicereus (of course) and some mystery seeds, which were just too tempting. I had to settle for seeds on two just because of the money factor. But at least I'll get my plants AND have some for trades later on.

I hope everyone has been having a pleasant and safe Memorial Day! Oh yeah, I live in Ocala,FL and it rained AGAIN tonight! My yard has gotten flooded with millions of weed seeds from all the neighbors (thanks, all of you). ;-( I actually spend hours out in the yard picking weeds so I'm kinda disgruntled about it right now.

Anyhoo, love all the pics and all the info!! Please keep it coming!!

Hi neighbor! The rain is moving in on us up here.

Have you checked out the Florida Forum- a really nice group of people.

Oh you need to feed your seeds monthly to speed up their growth other wise it will take 7 years until they get to blooming size. I have a about 10+seedlings mostly from the mystery packages.

You didn't know that was part of my plan, Selene?? I saw you comin' miles away!!

I only have a mere 30 epis .... so, I am just a rookie, too!

Here is another shot of Feuerzauber which finished blooming a couple weeks ago.

I am still a rookie-a 25 year lay off from growing epis did not help.

I am just a collector--at least I do not collect cat's!!!!!!! LOL

Uh oh, I've got three cats. That's not quite enough to make me a crazy cat lady is it? LOL!

Thanks for the welcome Sandy and I'm new to this site so I'm still working my way around thru the dif forums. Definitely found all the shopping parts!! Rotfl!! I'm SUCH a girl!!

Hey WNYwillieB, what kind of % do you get from the gotepis site? I hope you had a good agreement with them since you sent a bunch of us AND our credit cards to them!!

I don't usually come onto the computer until it's either too dark for me to see outside or the rain drives me in early (which it did today). (AGAIN)!!! I don't want to complain too much about the rain cause it's sooo much better than none. But.... can it please wait til nightfall so I might just get caught up on all my work in my garden? OK, ok, I never REALLY get caught up.... but I'm just so far behind where I wanted to be, it's making me crazy!! And don't get me started about all the squash, etc. that I'm losing cause of all this rain!

Oh yeah, forgot to thank you also Sandy for the info on feeding the seedlings!! How long does it take with the feeding to get it mature enough to bloom? I know you've just started back into it but do you remember or do you have any notes on it?

Talk to you guys later!!

Jim of Gotepi.com/cart says that if you feed at each watering it will cut the time in half. LOL Also one of our members from Australia thinks if you graft pieces onto stronger root stock they will grow faster and bloom sooner. But I am not into grafting yet.

And I am the one guilt in sending ever one to Got epi and also http://www.epigalleria.com/ which is my other favorite site.
I have to have company in my Epi madness---as she laughs with an evil madness.....

I only have over 230 plus epis now--that is not counting the 30 plus Christmas cactus and the 2 Easter Cactus.

Selene we are having a get together of the Florida DG members in Gainesville on the 6th.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/985671/ Go place to get plants. If you have plants to trade great if not you will still go home loaded down with plants. LOL

Well it is past time for me to start winding down for the night. I am going up to Ga tomorrow to pick peaches.

Sandy the epi nut.

New York, NY(Zone 6b)

Since Feb. 2009, I have accumulated approx. 30 cuttings and rooted plants (hope to see some blooms next year). Yes this is a fun addiction. Thanks for sending me to your favorite sites Sandy. I am made aware of all of the specials, sales etc. Enjoy your delicious sweet peaches tomorrow, making cobbler or pie?.

Good morning we will have to see if we find any. The orchard here in Florida was very hard hit by all the freezes. Will let DM sleep another hour and then we are off.

I have been talking with Jim from Gotepi (there was a little problem with my order) I joked about needing another epi house and he wrote he bought a new house and was already out of room. So see I am not the only one. LOL

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Selene: Why should I suffer and go broke all alone!! Besides, I always share good links/news like that. I had a feeling that with only 100+ cuttings to offer, they would go FAST! So, we needed to be at the ready, if we were to get any of the bounty!

Nice red, Sunshinesw! I have (have had) an Ackermanii??, but hasn't bloomed in years, plus, I didn't label those, as when I got them from the GH locally. Not to mention, I treated them horribly way back then.

They were labeled simply "Red," "Magenta," "Yellow," etc., so I don't know if I still have any reds in one of several unlabeled epi pots, or if it is gone! I am guessing they were all Ackermanii hybrids.

I figured with names like those, I wouldn't confuse them when they were blooming. Now, I wonder which variety they are.

The GH where I got them used to have (and pardon me here) a couple of very nice, but very elderly ladies who (I think were owners?) used to tend all the "stock plants" and make all the cuttings. I haven't seen them around lately, so I am guessing (hoping) they finally retired!

This was before I knew anything about just how many epi hybrids there were out there!

I got these when I was first getting into plants, and had just constructed the GH addition on the house.

Sandy

Ocala, FL

Wow, I miss one day here and look at all that's happened!! So, first off:
Sandy, How did the picking go? Also, thanks for the added info on the seedlings and on getting in on the sales at gotepi.
Sunshinesw, Nice blooms!! Got to love those colors!
WNYwillieB, I definitely appreciate your sending the link to gotepi's. I didn't see the forum when Sandy told everyone about it and it's good for us late-comers to see it later in the forums. I think good links like this should maybe be listed when we go to a new page for people who don't go all the way back to the beginning of each forum. What do you think?
Orchidman, Can I say that I'm pretty envious? What a gorgeous bloom!! And on your first one? What's your secret?
And Smashedcactus, I can't believe your picture. Is that real or did you 'photoshop'? Just kidding. I'm actually kinda breathless. I've never seen one with so many blooms. It's just beyond gorgeous!! And now, you gotta tell us, what did you do to get so many blooms? Some kinda special fertilizer? Or did you use witches brew? LOL!

Take care everyone. Oh yeah, I'm in here a little early today cause the rain is coming down in buckets outside and it forced me to take a break. Again!! WAH!!
Later,
Selene

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Selene orchards had not open yet. late freezes killed early fruit. Had to buy peaches off the side of the road.

I just added the 2 web sites that I buy from on the sticky at top of the forum.

Sandy

Cannelton, IN(Zone 6b)

Selene, My mom and sister bought this for me the summer before last. It had bloomed before they gave it to me. That fall my house was ran into by a SUV and sent it flying in pieces. I picked up all the pieces and planted them in a mixture of sphagnum moss, cactus soil , and some perelite. Last fall, I had about six blooms on it. I trimmed it back and put it in the basement ( very little light) during the winter months. I didn't use any fertilizer, but use rain water only. I started watering quite a bit about a month before putting it outside. I try to keep the soil damp at all times while it is in bloom. So far it is working pretty well. Will post a pic when it is in full bloom.

Hey Gary,
Do you know what kind that is? Or is it a NOID? Also, thanks for your 'witches brew' formula! I've only been planting in straight cactus mix. I'm gonna start amending now. I like to use rain water as much as I can. I don't have a rain barrel but put out all different kinds of containers to capture it. I hope the person who owned the SUV had good insurance! OUCH!!!
Sandy, sorry to hear the orchards were closed. Hope you get a great pie out of what you got.

Selene We just ate them. I make a smoothie this morning but I only get to drink half of it before Andre the demon child stole the glass and drank it. LOL

Selene, It looks just like the one Sunshinesw posted above. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6603478 And he had good insurance. We got a bay window out of it and I had fun replacing the C&S that were destroyed. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=4672747
The accident is what led me to DG

Sandy, your demon child looks like she is smiling.

He is. Belgian Tervurens smile a lot. To them live is a funny game, which they plan on winning. LOL
