Exactamondo threegardeners. You are obviously a professional swooper.
Happy birthday Carrie
Unfortunately as much as I luv it the silvery sage must go threegardeners as it will not behave and keeps marching down and under the stones to invade the lower tier and is seriously choking out the monarda which is a MUST HAVE for the hummers in August. I will have to take the upper tier apart next spring and vamoose it.
You could vamoose some of it my way, dearest nutty person...? For postage??
Sigh the borders guys only let us send seeds back and forth dear Carrie. Otherwise we have to have a psycho-certificate thingy which I think only commercial suppliers can get. I don't think this salvia propagates by seed but I will check for you ^_^
Booooo. I thought it was going to be my birthday present (just kidding).
I agree. It is a pain not to be able to share plants. BTW you do have a luvly, lengthy B Day Carrie ^_^
D-nut, do you have a PlantFiles link to that sage? Does it mind if it rains EVERY DAY? Thank you for the birthday wishes - in July, no less! That's a first!
It was gifted Carrie. I have sent an email to find out which one it is. I wonder if its artemisia ludoviciana rather than a salvia although it smells and tastes sagey? I hope it isn't a toxic artemisia cuz I eat alot of it with chickens. I have found that salvia officinalis hated rain/water in my garden. I'm not sure about others. I killed it with water to the great merriment of my SK in-laws who live where it grows like a weed in the fields.
That would make it more like tarragon than like sage! It surely is pretty... I kill a lot of stuff with water by not emptying containers that are overflowing. We had a rainy spring in 2007, a rainy, rainy spring in 2008 but it's STILL raining out there!! (July is supposed to be sunny.)
I soooo wish I had that problem. Dry, dry, dry here although we have been having rain this past week. I'm TOTALLY luving Gigi my french tarragon that I put in last year. YUMMY!!!
:( DH (but I luv him so that's ok) doesn't like tarragon. Did you name her Gigi?
I got a division in late summer and I wanted to be sure it was established enough to get through the winter so I named her Gigi and sang (in my best Maurice Chevalier voice) 'Thank Heavens for Little Girls' to her. Worked like a charm. She is very happy.
Do you cook with her? Does she do windows?
If ONLY she did windows!
My 'sage' is an artemisia! 'Silver Brocade' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1369/
OH! It's a Dusty miller mini! Today I bought a marjoram, thinking of your "silver sage." They're not the same at all of course.
Marjoram mmmmm. Will it overwinter for you?
Wait and see....
Hi, Carrie!
I am checking in from NC where I am visiting my parents. Lots of Loblolly pines here and Mom has a beautiful gardenia in bloom right now outside the kitchen door which smells heavenly. All the crape myrtle is peaking here in all the colors. I am going to attempt to bring one home and grow it in MA. Will let you know how that part of the story works out.
Martha
Happy B-Day Carrie because this wonderful thread is for you ^_^ But um Cousin Nut's beluved DLs are getting more scarey..... to continue on from the the giant heebiejeebie daylily (which I run by really fast BTW).....look at this one. It's doing a 'War of the Worlds' thing. Look how it's putting it's tenticalish foliage around my mini rose :O You can see it's stalk coming up right behind the centre red rose to loom threateningly :O Now I have no idea what it's all about (all my DLs but the stellas were gifts so I just live in befuddlement) but I'm wondering what's it's plans might be. Do I have to use my ninja skills to protect the mini rose or is it is just a DL hug? I'm hoping for hug.
It's just a daylily hug, I would say. I thought Alberta, Canada was very far away, but Befuddlement is very close to where we live!
I guess I live in MetroBefuddlement!
Tee hee. That would be a great name for a town.
I live in West Befuddlement - the Unposh part of Befuddlement.
I thought the unposh part was the Befuddlement Burb? West Buddlement sounds very swanky to me.
No, no, East Befuddlement is the upscale part of town, absolutely, bigger houses, nicer houses, landscaped yards, nearly articulate schools. In West Befuddlement, where I live, the folks can barely type and the tall plants are invariably in front of the shorter ones!
To wit, this post took me half an hour.
Carrie me too with the tall plants in front of the short ones ^_^
Well, things are going from N. Bad to downtown Worse, and i don't have the map!
Am having a great daylily year up here in Saugus. Got quite a few blooming that were planted last year or the year before. I am enjoying this. Oh, and the daylily I have been waiting for since Kassia's IS Little Grapette!! Yes!
Martha
Most of my dayliles are anonymous, but they seem to be enjoying the summer. I want to rip them all out and rearrange them but i have no idea how. Hurrah for Martha's daylies!
Re: "I want to rip them all out and rearrange them but i have no idea how" I'm going after the big scarey one with a pitchfork in a few weeks :O
Lood guck!
LOL!!!!! You guys are just too funny!!!! I'm loving this thread. Haven't had a chance to visit it in awhile. Been too busy. My DL's are blooming like mad. They are loving all the rain we've had, but I'm often wishing for better weather. Not high heat with humidity, though. That I can do without. But I will take 80 with low humidity. That would be fine.
It is pouring rain outside and has been since about 9 p.m. tonight. I think we're in for a lot of rain tonight. I have only had to water my container plants once this month, and that was last week. Then we got a lot of rain about a night later. Go figure!
Karen
Pouring rain down here too, Karen
They say we will possibly get over an inch of rain tonight. Tomorrow morning showers, cloudy in the afternoon. Weekend looks good, though. I'm going to Boston for a free Beach Boys concert at the Hatch Shell on Saturday with friends. Looking forward to that.
Karen
THE BEACH BOYS??? (Dreamy sigh....) Give them kisses from me!
I like singing Beach Boy songs. Have a great time Cousin Nut!
DD #1 is going, I found out.
Oh, what a great time I had at the concert!!!! Woo hoo!!!! Oh, and to top it all off, John Stamos from Full House was there playing with them. He tours with them now and then. Oh, baby!!!!!
Karen
