Thanks Allison. With all this rain they are really growing fast!
Edibles - '09 - Part 2
No kidding jumper2. They look great!
what a koinkidink Jan23 I luv TPB too ^_^ A friend's DH is named the 'Dread Pirate Roberts' although he is not at all dreadful and a wonderful photographer. I just like calling him that.
^_^ I may have to watch it again, soon!
Some things in the garden are OK---beets are nice in one row, pathetic in another. The broccoli raab is dwarfish---I guess the beans & tomatoes look the best. Jumper, my sage is blooming right now---don't remember having it bloom before--it probably never overwintered before---Louise, sorry about the weeds, I'm sick of them, too. Patti, that soup sounds yummy. Dahlia, too funny----sometimes I wonder why anything comes up!
I'm getting back to the weeds after all this rain. There really is a garden out there!
Bill - let us know how they do in pots!
Patti - thanks for the perspective on the great taste of the fresh veggies making it worth the weeds and care. I agree, and it was so nice to go out and pick some fresh lettuce tonight, but I just don't think I'm up to the soldier battle again. I'm going to try to just let them go and have a cottage garden out there. I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!! LOL If I get anything out of the garden, then yippee! If not, oh well! I just wish we could relocate the garden to eliminate the soldiers and grab some longer hours of sunlight. There's too much on our plates here again this year to try to do something so radical. LOL I will, however, put in some more rows of green beans tomorrow.
Allison - I can sympathize on the pachysandra. We ripped a lot out that was choking our peonies.
I hope you can make it go away nicely!
Oh, ache, ache, Jumper! Good luck!!
I don't have to work tomorrow, so more weeding. They weren't too hard today as the ground is still soft from the rain, so we'll see how tomorrow goes.
you sure Jen???? it's a royal pain!!.... there is more where that came from... no worries if you do
thank you Louise.. trust me it will NEVER go away... I have been trying to get rid of it on the steep slope next to the house since the year after we bought it... and we even had the guys scrape the whole thing down with the machienes they had here for the retaining wall... it still comes back every year every year...
this is one shot of where it was taking over... look over the boulders Randy put there
Oh yeah!
The hot tub looks nice!
The poppy looks even better! Very prettiful. I moved some oriental baby seedlings last weekend. Hope they survive the transplant.
ok then... Jen we are going to scoop up a batch for you ... for tomorrow... the hot tub is the neighbors..... sometimes we want to go sneak in it
ssoooo sorry to hear it Sherrie... that's terrible
oh and Jen.. Randy wants to know how many truck loads you want... LOL
lol, Remember I'm not the one with the truck.
poor Sherrie!
yeah I know the feeling... time for some drip irrigation for you my dear
That's a good size veggie garden Robindog. Looks like everything's sprouted and coming along!
Very nice, Robin! Jealous.
Finally bought my veggies. I'll get them in tomorrow. Trying cantaloupe and brussel sprouts for the first time.
We are having problems with something, I say rabbit, DH says bugs. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I may get some more cabbage and B.sprout plants and some fencing to go around just the brassica. My tomatoes are just sitting there looking unhappy, not like Jumper2's.
schickenlady, take care, sun poison can be a mess. I have gotten it when I was on medication and should not have been outside. I pretty much keep covered up when I garden, except I don't wear a hat and I should.
Donniebrook, maybe do your veggies in containers or in those black plastic grow bags on top of weed block cloth put over those dreaded soldier weeds. Watering is an issue with grow bags, but no weeds. Patti
Read that article---fascinating subject. Garden looks better today as I weeded it on Sat.! Dug up the broccoli raab which had gone to flower before it matured----I'm thinking it should be a fall crop.
Robin, I am thinking the same thing about the broccoli raab. mine bolted very early, too (maybe an early spring and fall planting). Your garden looks like it is coming along great!
Interesting article, Victor.
Sherry, how far away for bhuts is "far away" do you think??? I wonder if it will make the tomatoes spicy hot???
I had to dig up three more garden spaces for all the veggies I have left over.
One of the new gardens, where I planted the bhuts also has:
tomatoes (cherry: sweet 100's & sungold ; large: early girl & beefmaster),
cantaloupe,
zucchini (black beauty),
summer squash (yellow straight gooseneck)
and at the opposite end from the bhuts, some
Hot Peppers (Piccante calabrese)
The sweet peppers are all the way on the other side of the yard.
Very interesting, Victor. I haven't grown "hots" for awhile, but this is good to know.
I think the cold temps harmed my beefsteaks. They are all looking puny and yellowish. Think they're done for?????? I think I'll buy some jet stars to replace them, but it's getting a bit late to plant them now.
He needed his own! lol I have one that has face-offs with the rabbits.
Very nice! You know the chippys know all about when to pick the fruit. They won't touch it until it's ripe.
Great shots, Bill! It looks like you have your own theater acts going on there! LOL Traveling company???? I'll have to check the costume room here to see if any squirrel and strawberry costumes are missing!!!
Photos are so cute! He has quite a red tail---looks like a gray-red cross---I haven't seen many squirrels around since I stopped the bird feeding.
