I can't use anything around the trays as I have wire shelf's... BUT I just got an idea and thanks for the tips... I will put foil on my shelf's and then put something on that to stop the little buggers.... DE is good and I do have some but am afraid to use with my cats... if they got enough on there paws they may get sick... May try the salt and the chalk.... I am going to spray the outside of my house if it is not raining tomorrow after work... The funny thing is that they are not in the house other places where they normally are so this was a surprise when I seen the family and friends start to exit the tray...LOL
Nic, I feel fine just my moods have been off .. I like mostly to stay with myself then and not be a nasty person to anyone but me...LOL I am doing lots better but with the outside and then the inside I get kinda crazy... Well ok more crazy...LOL
Gail, for the first time ever for me one of my plumerias has a seed pod.. I am very excited about that... At first I did not know what the heck it was and I am glad I did not cut it... Then I had a brain fart and I said OH BOY that's a seed pod...LOL I will try to get a picture... Most of my plumerias don't have leaves yet... but hey I have a pod....LOLOL
Jan, the sinns you sent me ??? One has two blooms on it and I can't wait until they get bigger and open... this type will be a first for me... :-)
Lynn, I don't have any other blooms right now with that color except Vampires Kiss and that is not it I don't think.. Sorry... Give another week and I will have more blooms to compare to... I kept you picture on my puter... Unless it crashes again....
Does anyone on here have Nancy's home email??? I lost it in the crash of my puter and would like it again ... So if anyone has it please dmail me... I would be very thankful...
Hugs,
Susan
May Flowers 4
Susan, I will look for Nancy's email...................I have it.
Also, I have a new book called Growing to Show and I remember reading something about ants........let me look and come back...........
Ants (at least Indiana ants)lol, won't cross coffee grounds. I put them around the shephard's hook where I hang my humminbird feeder and they don't get up in the feeder. Just my two bits worth, I don't know how that would work indoors for you plant stands. Lou
Hey ya SuzyQ ... so glad to see you back! I hope the sun shines for you soon and your mood is as cheery as the sun. ^_^ I know it's no fun to be in a funk and have the weather be miserable, just makes the moods worse. Hang in there!
Lou: Thanks for that tip about coffee grounds for hummingbird feeders! I am going to try that around the shepherds hooks my feeders are hanging from! Makes me so mad when ants take over the feeders and clog up the ports!
Turtlechi, funny what you said about DE and it possibly hurting cats. I have a friend who puts it all over her dogs to fight fleas and ticks. I've heard too many things against it to try that myself. Would rather rub it all over myself than hurt my animals!
With all the chemicals in flea controls, DE might be a better way to go for combatting fleas on pets: http://www.livefleafree.com/page/107264202
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/4013/natural_flea_control_for_cats_and_dogs.html?cat=7
Found this that sounds very interesting ... okay for humans as well as cats & dogs: http://wolfcreekranch1.tripod.com/defaq.html
don't know if I'd want to be a guinea pig and try it though ... I'm a big chicken when it comes to stuff like that.
Hi All,
Just got in from work.. what a day...LOL we had almost 2 inches of rain in an hour... more to come for the rest of the week... I use FrontLine Plus on my pets as it is not an insecticide. They use in Europe for head lice on people... Well I could not sleep last night so I got up and played with my plants for over an hour and I did not find any more so I am hoping they were only having a visit... LOL
Ok putting my feet up until I have to make dinner... Thanks for all the help with the different things to try... I will line my stands very soon...LOL
Hugs,
Susan
Susan,
If these are the little tiny sugar eating ants, try some Terro indoor traps. It is just sugar and I think boric acid. The opening is to small for the cats to get into, unless they actually tore them apart.
Lynn
Every time I hear the word rain, I am jealous. We got an inch last night but we are still in what they call an extreme drought. 2" for the year...........that is all............
Glad you are back, Susan, and you can certainly whine here if you want to. Sometimes I have my 'pity parties' on DG!
Funny Gail!!
Susan,it's not Cherry Pie or Vampires Kiss.I will do some sleuthing LOL.
Lynn
It looks a little like Achilles?Do you have that one?
Gail, I wish I could send y'all some of this rain we've been having! I've never seen anything like it. We had non stop rain - morning, noon and night for eight straight days! Finally yesterday was sunny and beautiful, and today it was hot and sunny until about 4 O'clock this afternoon when storms rolled in. We were in a drought situation here too, way below normal rainfall, with brush fires popping up everywhere. So, we were praying for rain ... just looks like our prayers have been answered tenfold! We normally have afternoon thunderstorms during the summer months but it's not even June yet ... weird weather. A new weather blurb just came on showing the storms that are passing through and more to come overnight!%@#!
.... sooooo, I will be wishing and praying for the rain to head west to Texas! ^_^
We had a bit of a storm again overnight - not very much. The thunder actually woke me up. My first coherent thought was - "I should have put a bucket out". Then fell asleep again! ^_^
She is a beauty Gail!
Lin,it seems like the weather is weird everywhere to me! I sure hope it stops raining for you and starts raining for Gail and Nichole.
It's been a little hot and dry here for the season, but today it has been in the high 60's and raining.90's -60's....who knows??
Lynn
I don't think I have that one but will look at my list... I am wondering if this was a leaf I grew and did not have a name... Was it a really big plant when I sent? I will check after work for you...
Ok have to go get dressed now for work...
Hugs and all have a good day...
Susan
I ordered this one from PJs violets on ebay...........
That's a really pretty one Gail!!
David Thompson is on ebay again this week.............can't look or I will buy more............his are my very favorites...............
I am really late to the party here. So much to catch up on!
Glad you're not flooded, Lin, and I am wishing you about half as much rain as Lin got, gessiegail, to help relieve the terrible drought in your area.
Ants! I despise them. I hope they are gone for good, Susan..
Everyone's flowers are a delight to see and enjoy. My plant room is getting so warm these days and it's a battle to keep the streps happy. The episcias on the other hand are glad the streps are miserable.
She looks mighty happy to me..........I have never seen Big Blue and she is a keeper for sure!
We did get a couple of inches of rain and are so happy!!!
You have inspired me to go find a strep, take a picture and play with it on Corel as you have done!!
Gail, I resisted on this last episcia photo but I wanted to. I think you must have a leaf of Big Blue in your many boxloads ;) Forgot to say that strep is in a 6" pot so it does get big! Please do post some more photos..
Helter Skelter is fab! I only have a little junior of that one still on the leaf.
If you want the mother episcia plant to stay smaller, then leaving the stolons on helps to keep it that way somewhat as she has to share.
GL: Wow, Big Blue looks big, blue and Beautiful, not unhappy at all! Love it. And, those Happy Camper Episcia's are sooo pretty!
Gail, I'm loving y'alls Corel creations!
Now, I want to learn (for some strange reason) how to work Adobe Photoshop Element 6.........it is hard, but I will get some help from my brother's granddaughter!!! In the meantime, you all will be begging GL and me to go somewhere else with our toys (LOL)
GL, you did send me a leaf.........she is rooting somewhere in one of these containers as I now remember you sending her!!! I can't wait.
Thanks for the tips on growing Smoke Pink, GL!
I always love a pink double bloom...........thanks!!!
Harmony's Pinkstone is Gorgeous! I adore pink, and the double bloom just makes it perfect!
Everybody's pictures are so gorgeous!!
Lynn
Beautiful plant and bloom Gran! It looks like a sinningia to me but I don't know which one. If someone ID's it, I sure hope you will add that photo to Plant Files: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=sinningia&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&searcher%5Bgrex%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search&offset=0
Gorgeous Sinn. Gran!! I am not sure which one it is.
Lynn
HG..that sinn. is really pretty. Love the spots inside the flower. Growing from seed to a lovely blooming plant gets extra special congratulations. My suggestion...name it! How's the episcia doing you grew from seed also? I keep thinking about that one.
The Episcia is looking really great-- lots of stolons-- I am calling it "Sunrise Ceremony" at least until it blooms-- I think of other great names at night and they are gone with daybreak--so am open to suggestions on that score ^_^ this is what it looks like today-- took the photo outside and was able to get more of the coloration-- Wasn't i going to send you a stolon of this? If you want it-- I can send it next week-- plant budget is shot until then;) edited to add-- this is still in a 3oz solo cup.

I am soo thrilled for you, HG! I like the name you have...don't change it unless you really want to. I would be honored to have a stolon. And, of course I will send you whatever you want.
awesome looking episcia, Gran!!!! Congratulations!
Tommie,
Wow,to see it look like that in a 3 ounce Solo cup!! Do you dome or mist your Episcias at all? So far I am not and they all look really good.I keep mine pretty small, because I just don't have enough shelf space....YET, LOL. for Streps.,Episcias,AVs and everything else.
