Thanks, GP. They really are beautiful.

I went to the local lake yesterday afternoon for the first time in months because it's like a desert over summer. We had a couple of days of rain and there are now a few puddles and already the birds have started to return, including this Straw-necked Ibis.

Its bill is dirty almost as far up as its face, which shows how far down they probe into the smelly mud after little gourmet delights.

OK, how many of you will admit to being old enough to know what song this pic of a Scrub Jay brings to mind?

First of two pix of a Little Pied Cormorant at the river today.

The launch. The river was like a millpond - the splashes are from the wash of passing boats.

I was in the back yard a few days ago and I heard a dog barking - really close. I was concerned for the safety of my free-ranging pet chicken, as we don't have a dog. Frantically, I looked around as the barking continued. I finally located the source of the barking. It was coming from the crown of a palm tree. And there, above me, was an Australian Raven looking down at me and barking. So, I did what any normal, sensible person would do: I barked back: and it barked back at me and thus it continued for a couple of minutes. I was in stitches by the end of it. (This photo isn't of the barking Raven)

I was watching this mommy feeding her chicks on my front lawn all morning and decided to try and catch it with my camera. What a catch! As you can see I managed to get the little one begging for food. She finally feeds junior! So darn cute!! Wish the pictures were more sharp but it was a very cloudy day and shooting through the window doesn't help. Enjoy though!

Barking Ravens??? That must be crazy!! LOL

I must admit I have been lazy in my bird searching lately...and I have bee busy getting plants in the ground and doing yardwork. I will have to down load pics off the camera here in a bit to see if I have anything.

So how about another pic of the Pileated Woodpecker for now....

Great pictures! Such a great variety of birds now that it is warmer! :)

I found a cardinal nest in the arbs on the side of my house. I could hear the babies pipe up when dad came by to feed them. I'm not sure about all, but at lease one fledged yesterday.
