I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER ORCHID UNTIL I GET ALL OF THE ONES I HAVE TO BLOOM!! Or I kill them trying. ^_^
My Motto This Weekend
I bought one for you. I am keeping it on my mantle....and sometimes in my shower. Don't peek.

I have over come my addiction to buying plants and smoking and drinking. I am so proud of myself. Now to get my DW from buying them that is the next step in my 12 step program. 'Deny' her any money to pay off her credit card, get 'angry' when she buys plants, Start 'bargaining' with her to buy only needed plants, and finally 'admit that I am helpless' to change another person's plant addiction with 20,000 sq ft of raised beds.
Geez, sofer, she has to fill it up doesn't she? That's hard work!! So she deserves her rewards! I sometimes envy those of you that have all that room, but then I think of all that work.....and change my mind. LOL
There is no room in any of the beds and they are competing for mature space. So we did have fun procuring but now is time to conserve and let nurseries be just that something you pass and keep on going.
It is hard to imagine all those beds being full up. Don't you ever lose a plant to a varmint or weather event and need to fill the spot where it was?
We used to lose a plant to weather but they are pretty established now. We over planted and have plenty to move to areas that are more favoriable to their needs. No varmits here with cats and jack russell running free. Oh I forgot and raptors live in our big tree central to our property to view the valley below. No my DW digs up healthy plants and plants new ones. Please note my credit card bal is 0 and hers is maxed out and I don't want to say what the max is. LOL
Sofer...LOL! I am glad that you were able to overcome your addiction. Alas, I am afraid that the first step in conquering an addiction is "wanting to quit", and I don't see myself ever getting there when it comes to the garden. On the other hand, it sounds like most of us have only one major "garden addict" in the family....It was probably almost a necessity for a household with two garden addicts to have at least one be strong enough to go on the wagon! Good for you!
You know how you can sometimes see things without actually "seeing" them? Well, this cartoon has been on Mom's fridge for years, but I was getting a glass of ice water last evening, and it was the first time in a very long time that I actually "saw" it. I started giggling immediately, and knew that I had to add it to this thread.
Good one!
LOL That is funny. Now who put it on your mom's fridge, with what intent?
My new struggle is with the pre-order Fall bulb catalogs and the last ditch sales at internet nursery sites. My strategy, successful so far, is to put a dream list in the virtual shopping cart, become shocked at the large total, and decline to actually purchase anything until after the sale is over. Then I breathe a sigh of relief that I have not spent all that money.
I shall copy and place the red circle with a bar across it and put it on our refer. Thanks for the help.
great cartoon! I may save it too and send it to DH, telling him I don't think I've even filled one pallet.....
Holly, I thought I was the only one who did that! The next variation is to go back and weed it down to the minimum and then add in the shipping and decide that the small order with the shipping makes the cost per plant too high....then add everything back in and be shocked at the total again-and then I come to my senses and go to bed before I lose whatever remnant of willpower I've got left....
Susy, That is exactly what I do next, too funny. The other thing I do is procrastinate until the plant I really wanted is sold out. Then there is no real point to placing the order after all.
My current thing to want one of each, are Mark Roberts fairys.
Lol, Holly, I do that too! Oh, darn, they sold out.....no point in ordering this other stuff now.... Guess I'll have to wait til next season....
ROFLOL....and here I thought I was the only one who did that!!!
Oh, Oh, we are all in trouble now. The new catalogs are starting to come out with spring bulbs in them! Just got the first two in the mail.
Grrrrrrrrrrr... I have to work all weekend..so my new motto is..
I WILL TRY TO GET OUT OF WORK BEFORE DARK.
