I have been mostly working out in the garden and working in AK. I also have been spending lots of time on Facebook with my Daughter and seeing pictures of my gran daughter.
philosophy 101
That's how I keep up with my grands also. It's great! We have missed you posting.
I too keep up with my kids and grandchildren on Facebook. But I usually forget to check in there for weeks at a time.
I've been re-reading the posts you all have written about your gardens and Cabindweller, I've been meaning to tell you that you are certainly welcome here and there is no such thing as barging in! All are welcome!
There are so many very touching stories.
I have finished my garden so far and haven't had anything to post so just been Lookie Louing. Thanks for missing me.
One of the giant old elm trees around the corner is being taken down and the area quarantined - Dutch Elm disease. There are 4 more elms close by so we are all hoping that they will be ok.
What a sight to see a very old and huge tree being sawn apart bit by bit. I understand that it has to be done, but it is still difficult to watch. Have any of you had to witness this process, and how did you feel?
WOW, I just now have stopped everything to read this tread. Been wanting too but never the time to do so.
You all are very unique in your own ways and very special people to love the till of the land, so to speak. To get dirty, muck in the mud and create a wonderful gardens and then be happy when you dress up to go to work or to go to town, as you have fulfill your sanity LOL I love DG and have met many really neat people.
As far as where I got my love for plants came from my father, he so love to garden. Was always outside, My mother did not have a clue as to what was what, still doesn't. I was a tom boy and if there was anything a boy could do I wanted to do it, but better LOL
Shoes, now that is where I really have no interest in, I only have what I need. I own 3 shoes Sandals (which I wear once in a while) work shoes and yard shoes
And 3 boots my rubbers, winter boots and cowboy boots (for dancing and riding).
I have not wore a skirt or dress in 10 years. Now I must sound sad, But that is me LOL I don't like them.
yes, Judi - I have. It was jarring in a way, but nothing lives forever.
All these beautiful plants, large & small, have limits on how long they live. I was struck by the history that I would never know: Tales from the Trees, but also by the skill & cajones necessary to accomplish the task. Reality check for me was discovering that 3 of the 4 trees were rotting on the inside & when weakened enough, a typical winter wind storm would have caused them to fall & crush our home. No contest.
They had served their purpose well, and were reduced to components that were re-used on site. Some of the original bark chips still exist.
What amazed me about watching this tree taken down is how long it took - 3 full days. And how much skill and maneuvering was required. It is sad to see such a magnificent tree gone but you are right Katye - nothing lives forever. Somehow we seem to attach more sentimentality to these big trees and expect them to outlive us but sometimes that just isn't possible.
Tills I want to see a photo of your cowboy boots please. I love cowboy boots! I think I need a pair. (There's that funny word again - "need")
Everyone should have a pair of cowboy boots. That's what you wear with your boot-cut jeans, right?^_^
I think this is too funny, You want to see my boots LOL
Bought them in 1982 and they have seen alot of wear LOL they have been resole at least 5 times.
Between driving truck for 2 years, Riding horses, and country dancing which my DH and I taught classes for 9 years.
If these boots could talk they would have a story of there own to tell. LOL They have ben tru alot
Tills you better take those babies to the RU and teach some folks how to dance.
OMG I have not danced in 10 years. LOL
I love the boots - maybe you need one of those big square dancing skirts. LOL
With a petticoat??
Definitely a petticoat!
I've been thinking about those boots. What do they say about Tills? She has had them resoled over and over so she must be a loyal person. Those boots have been country dancing so she must be fun. They have been riding horses so she must be an outdoors gal and an animal lover. The truck driving? I'm not sure. LOL
Those boots are 'old friends' They look well-worn. I love shoes that have conformed to my feet and just feel 'right'. Whether they have holes or not. Having said that, though, I think I would be a collector of shoes if I could. :)
I have a closet full of square dancing clothes and petticoats. Huge ones.
I have my old spurs but not my boots. Your's are beautiful Tils.
Yes, old friend boots. The look of well loved leather is so special. I like the look of things with a history, including gardens. History in the garden - plants from friends or those well established specimens that have been there forever? Garden furniture? Some of mine was left in the garden when I bought the house, and two of my kids helped me paint it on a sunny afternoon and we had fun. Not exactly my taste but it belongs. Garden art? Do you have history in your garden?
Hmmmm...a collector of shoes. Before my recent retirement I was a collector of shoes. And clothes. All black or white (seems to be an architect thing). I told myself I had an excuse since I kept a suitcase full in both the London and New York offices. Besides, shopping in London is fun! Made life so much easier. When I gathered all my stuff when I retired, I was mortified. I had always thought of myself as low-maintenance. Surprise!!! A lot of it is in my basement, neatly packed in boxes until I am ready to turn it all over to the organization 'Dress for Success'. I don't know why I am unable to do that just yet. Sicko. LOL
Willow photo please of the square dancing clothes, esp the petticoats! Secrets are coming out.......
Funny, I have a couple of the skrits and pettie coats still.
And Judi the truck driving lol foot lose and fancy free, wanted to see the world. Ha Ha that was dumb but fun too.
Aha! Tills has skirts! Tills I admire you - it sounds like you live your life instead of just watching it pass by.

Not doing pictures yet on the new computer. It won't take the Product Key #, says it's wrong. Not. But I will get some pics of them. We love to dance, so when we first moved to Shelton it was the Elks or Moose lodges. They were nice at first but got funny so we started square dancing and round dancing. Did that for about six years then DH got so he couldn't follow instructions very well.
Looks like you are dancing with Richard Gere. Both of you are cute.LOL
Really cute pic, Till. Looks like you were having lots of fun.
Judi, I can relate. I have been out of the "corporate world" for over 20 years now, but still have my pin striped suits, etc. It was the stuff I used to wear for my "power" image when I was one of the only female execs. I had a grey one and, of course, a navy blue one. (Haven't checked for moth damage for a while now. that might be the final motivation.)
those are definitely great dancing boots to go with your dancing soul!
I never had a dress up kind of job, always wore jeans it work. Dresses just didn't make the grade when you work retail at least the ones I have worked for. Its down and dirty. LOL If I don't come home dirty, I feel like I got nothing done. ^_^
I loved dancing, hated to stop. When we did, I gained 20 pounds No that was sad.
We taught at the Eagles Lodge here in Poulsbo. nights a week for 9 years and hosted the dances. And my DH hired the bands. There are not many places to go any more not around here anyway. Is great memories.

Looking Good Tills. Dancing with the stars or something like that.
Thanks, Steve means alot from you
Tills what a great photo! Looks like fun times! Those boots were made for dancin'!
I have been at the beach for 5 days. The contractor who worked on my house let me use his beach house so my daughter, her boyfriend, and their new puppy came with me and my dog. We had a wonderful time and missed the heat wave. My neighbor offered to water my garden in exchange for picking the tomatoes, blueberries, cucumbers, green beans and herbs that were ready while I was gone.
The weather at the coast was unusually warm and sunny and we spent a lot of time walking the beach with the dogs. It was good to get away from the city for a while. I know several people who don't like to be away from home but I always feel recharged when I return from a trip. Mountains are my favorite, but this trip to the beach was so refreshing and wonderful. Where do the rest of you go to be recharged? And do you bring garden ideas home from trips?
Ya those where the good times.
Have cat walking across my desk LOL
I have some friends that have a place in Ocean Shores, so want to go there. But just never have the time to take the time always some thing else.
Cat is watching the the monitor and following the words, O'Lord is she reading this.
Too funny Tils. Your dahlias are beautiful.
I'm one of the one's who likes to stay home. Especially by myself. But I did absolutely love going to Palm Springs every year for two weeks to golf. Love it there.
I guess my question should be revised. Do you like being in nature to recharge? Or a big city? Hotel? Spa? Personally, I would rather be in a tent in the forest, with a river near by. So, are you a nature lover or a shopper? Remember, there are no correct or "better" answers.
I like alone in a kayak on an island that is all mine. Wake up late and walk the beach and find a rock that makes a good chair and then read a good book. Something with history of the area I am in and pretend to be there at the time someone wrote about it. That is why I enjoy reading John Muir and his spectacular view and understanding of the area he is in. Then a short trip around the islands in the kayak and back to another island with a big beach fire to fall asleep next to watching the stars. Ahhhhh.
I would like my dog with me. Sofer, any pets with you?
I am fortunate that my home IS my escape. I love dirtbike riding or snowmobiling into the mountin tops for a "different perspective", but I love my world so much I find it less than motivating to leave. Does that make me a recluse? Once I am "on the hill", I just want to stay there. Reminds me of a country song......"I live back in the woods you see, a woman and the kids and the dogs and me...." No kids, but the rest fits. Recharge is home, and that's a good thing....but it makes it hard to leave!
I feel the same way as you, Rarejem. I hate to go to town. And I absolutely loathe big cities and crowds. I am the kind of shopper that goes to one store, usually Fred Meyer's, and tries to get it all in one long shopping trip. Well, I do like Costco, as well, when it is not so busy. Unfortunately, I do not like comparison shopping, see it, like it, get it, done.
If and when we can get away, I prefer hopping on the Harleys, DH tows the bike trailer, and just ride until we are tired, pull over on a dirt road, and jump into bed. The trailer sets up in 5 minutes, and a nice comfy queen sized bed awaits us. I then try to sneak rocks into my saddle bags and the trailer for souvenirs, and I am happy.
I prefer being at a higher altitude; hiking near Lake Tahoe - a fine way to spend time. Also, fly-fishing in a float tube on a nice lake. It's the only way I know to completely relax.
.
I have nothing to do with city life, grew up in LA. But but born it Texas, had family that lived in the farm country out of LA. Spent my school years in the city and my summers on the ranch (my uncles) Was so ready to find my own place in the country, was not looking for the great house on the hill (pipe dream) But a good life. Had alot of ups and downs, But found the man of my dreams and my woods. This where I want to be. They can take the city life and put it where the sun don't shine. 'Sorry' I work in the so called city, and I tell what there is no way I could live there. If I want to bring home any kind of animal, I can have it just make the right houseing for it. Can't do that in the city.
Sorry need to go to bed.
