Ok, I finally got back out to the perennial beds where I have those two clematises in question and I bow to your identification expertise! You are correct, what I thought was Durandii certainly is not since some of it is blooming on last years wood and the one I didn't think was is all brand new shoots this year. (Besides the fact that the flower was incorrect for each one. Duh.) Thank you!
Now, tell me who this is? :)
Diann
A few pics....
This one sure looks like Comtess de Bouchard. I have 2 and they are gorgeous!!!
I checked Plant Files and while I don't have 'Mayleen' your photo looks very close. Check it out and see what you think: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/21455/
Here's Dawn's 'Comtesse de Bouchaud': http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/37948/
Hmm...Ticker, you are sure giving us a run for our money :) Everthing aout that pic reminds me of Comtesse but mine is more lavender. Tough call though, as gowing conditions, cameras, and monitors can change the bloom! Looks so much like Mayleen, does any name ring a bell? I know I have had plants (and still do) where the name is the final giveaway. I remember the name. Of course that won't work too much longer ;)
Ding ding ding! I think we have a weiner!! or is that winner? It must be 'Comtesse de Bouchaud' cause I've never heard of the other one and I'd probably remember that name. The clematis I have are not exotic ones... so, 'Comtesse de Bouchaud' it is! :) Thanks guys!
Diann
Dawn wins the prize!
Got any more Ticker? We've had a great time putting a name to a bloom!
Yeah, but it's dark out and so... :) Maybe tomorrow night.. :) I had two whites, but they are done now..
Yahoooo I don't think I have ever been called a weiner before but ok LOL!!
it is comtesse de bouchaud. the texture of the sepals is one of the give aways. it is a beautiful clem, but unreliable for me. some years are great, some are not so great. the pink is different depending on light, mine opens a little peachy pink then gets true pinker as it fades. but a pink for sure all the way.
Thank you all for the nice comments. I am really enjoying all the beautiful pics.
ClematisGuru, I'm not quite new to the Clematis Forum but I don't post much. I usually drop by and pick up a few hints and post a few pics each year. This is my first visit this year.
Venue209, As Guru said it is a lot more lavender, Mine seems to start out darker and quickly lightens up. When I saw the first blooms I thought I had marked it wrong but within a few days it looked as I expected.
Ticker, My husband Ric made the trellises, the whole lamppost bed was put in last year. Well I should say that it was finished last year. I designed it a couple of years ago just for clematises and we got the RR ties in the other year and the Ramona and Multi-blue were planted then. Then last year it was finished and the Snow Queen was added.
The 3 trellises are inexpensive light weight metal trellises I picked up cheap. I had Ric build wood frames for them to make them stronger and give them more height. Then we added the blue stained glass diamonds. The trellis on the lamp post Ric designed for me. I had been hunting around for something that would give me the look I wanted and he came up with this simple design that fits right in.
If you have any interest in looking at it this link will take you to a thread that shows the whole bed start to finish. It will show a bit more detail of the trellises.

Holly, your husband did a great job with the trellises. :) I'm off to look at the thread on the bed.. :)
venu, your pink flamingo is finished blooming this year, right? or is it still in bloom? mine blooms so early....around may 1. this year was not as floriferous as it has been, maybe the cold. i am very fond of pink flamingo!
She's blooming now. No new buds to be seen, so I expect her to be done in a week or two. She's new this year so I can't comment on prior habit.
did it get any pruning in the spring or have damaged vines? i am amazed it is just now blooming....love that. mine actually blooms too early to suit me. maybe you just had not old growth with it being a new plant and it is blooming on the new?
Yes Venu, But he will bring his boat and fishing rod. Instead of a nice trellis you may end up with a delicious fish dinner instead. LOL
Just came back from my parents house, should have had the camera, her Multi-blue is just beautiful.
Here is a new pic of the Ramona this is the same bloom that is pictured above you can see that it has lightened up some in a couple of days.
Ticker (Diann), I'll have to leave the IDing to the experts, but I wanted to say hi and welcome you to the clem forum! I had no idea you had clems too, but then I shouldn't be surprised! :)
Hope someone can help you with those IDs.
Hi Goldfinch. Yeah, I'm a collector of many various things.. Right now the thing I seem to be collecting the most of is weeds. LOL :) I usually try to keep the names with my clems, but some of these have lost their tags, so, here I am, seeking knowledge from the kind folks here. :)
Diann
Great thread, Louise. I love all the clematis photos but the one of the underside of Huldine just waking up is delightful.
Diann..the first one is definitely Clematis "Mevrouw Le Coultre " because of the black tips on the anthers...alot of people mistake her for "Marie Boisselot"...Jeanne

The second one is Clematis "Ernest Markham"...Jeanne

Thank you Jeanne! :)
You are so welcomed..I am fickled with the 3rd because I need to see a closeup fully opened liked your 1st two pics...Jeanne
Ok, I'll try to get a shot of it and post it for you. :) Thanks so much!
Diann
I am wondering if the third could be Rhapsody. I have that one and it opens close together and then the bloom spreads resembling Durandii. (sorry for the delay, was out of town on vacation studying sunshine) :)
Bump.
Oh you are such an excellent 'bumper'! Quit distracting me with these lovely threads!
I just felt the ground move. Hey, Pirl. Is it your day to bump up all the old threads? :-)
This one is wonderful. I love everything pink, red, and white on it (no surprise, huh?). I have only two --- Nelly Moser and Montana Broughton Star. Just starting to collect them. Hope things around here will look a lot better come spring.
Edited. I misspelled "Montana." Grrrr

Judy, they go so well with roses, (hint hint) even planted in the same hole as some have done, I plan to copy that idea!
Spring will be fabulous!
It keeps me feeling like spring time to look at all the terrific photos and how people use them.
I keep scrolling up and down, getting ideas and trying to remember the names. I am just now starting to decide where I want to put things and really starting to get excited. Keep it up, Pirl. I'd never see some of these if you didn't bump 'em up. I'm still new, you know.
Sue, I am learning about pairing the Clematis (es? ii?) with roses and seeing what beautiful results it gives. Seems like many of the same people have the same specific plant interests. I have "stolen" so many of Pirl's pics it's not funny. So glad she doesn't mind.
I don't mind at all and take it as a compliment. Just maybe I'll put a clematis on Graham Thomas, who I always feel will go to the dump but I do love the blooms.
Threads like this I feel are valuable to all of us because we'll suddenly spot a photo and think, "I could do that!".
Pirl,
Exactly! I am learning there are all kinds of supports people put their climbing plants on --- things I never would have thought about or figured out how to do. About a year ago I bought an old rickety, wooden 4' stepladder at an auction. It's too unstable to use as a ladder but the "look" of it was charming and it told me one day I'd find a use for it. Then I saw a picture ... gonna paint that sucker white (the one I saw in the photo was bright yellow), stick it out in the yard and put a clematis on it.
And, of course, you know the Caladium story. Another idea that will come to fruition.
Woo hoo! Now I'm getting the idea!
Judy - My husband has many ladders and seems to always be collecting more. I've asked if I could have one of the older ones to lean against the garage to put a clematis on and he keeps saying "no". One day I'll wear him down. I've always wanted an old one with the steps to set pots on too. I don't even plan to paint them - I love that old gray look of the wood.
Can you share the Caladium story? Another idea?
