This lady lives in Canada but drives to the border of the US to ship her plants.........to my knowledge she doesn't even sell african violets. That is why it takes a while to get her plants. Your are thinking of MKViolets maybe?

One of my favorite streps I found from a good vendor on ebay.
Heart of Darkness by David Thompson

Gail,
I probably am thinking of the wrong one.
Yes,David is a top seller in my opinion. He doesn't live that far from here, but circumstances don't allow me and my DH to drive there.
I also love Heart of Darkness and will soon have a baby from Dave.I think that is on Jim's want list.
Lynn

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You will have a baby of Heart of Darkness from Dave who? (David Thompson?)..............
Mine is new but blooming her head off...............
Jim is having to wait on leaves this summer............have lots going on but I dmailed him about it.........

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Yes,David Thompson. That one as well as some others.

Williston, ND

it wont be a baby,if his mail order plants are like his big ones, then youll get a big starter plant, and yes its on my wish list still

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

patience, David........I have to get a leaf for myself (in case the mother doesn't make it for some reason) before i send leaves out (LOL)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I also am needing to get on ebay or DG...........I can use the money! Isn't anyone else feeling the pinch of our economy? We also lost our grain and cotton crops completely this year.

I have 3 stands this full of streps not counting my office with all the baby plants growing......
You have to be a plant lover when you even have a stand in your own bedroom!

Gail, great picture, very beautiful! I am certainly feeling the pinch. We don't go anywhere at all or eat out, etc.
Jim,he sends nice big starter plants in bloom or bud,but they have 2-3 leaves.

Medford, NJ

Gail, what kind of bulbs or lights are you using in that little setup there? everything looks very healthy.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Gail, since your love is propagation, have you thought of starting a small business, perhaps via a website, or ebay? Or perhaps you could supply a some plants to an established business near you. Everyone is wheelin and dealin these days, precisely d/t the economy!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have been thinking about propagating hoyas and adding to my collection. I put some on ebay a couple of weeks ago and made more money in one auction than I have made on streps the whole time I have been on ebay...........

I really have thought about a store on ebay.........but it is so much work packing all the time.....I do love propagating though..........and ebay is a good outlet...........

jmp, I buy my light fixtures from Walmart and order my full spectrum light bulbs from IGS on line...........leave them on 12 hours a day.........I know people are using all kinds of newer bulbs but I am sticking to these ...............Someone else will have to tell you about the new bulbs which you run less hours but have to know what you are doing or you burn them. You can also buy bulbs from Walmart called Gro Lux .......they are also used for aquariums.......

Medford, NJ

thanks Gail - I do believe the local garden center sells Gro-Lux too, but I may try what you are using, considering your plants llook so happy!

Wish the dark dark purple could show on the picture of Black Panther......her purple is almost black.....great foliage, too!

The tag on this plant says "maybe Cloise"........have no idea but she is soooooo sweet looking.

I am not a fan of every Neil's strep but I like Betty Jean......the pink has some coral in her color.........

Black Panther was my first strep--bought it at a garden center. I still love it! You could grow that one out Gail, It doesn't get huge, and flowers almost constantly.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

She is mighty big right now but I trimmed her leaves, phoebe.............I love streps!! Never saw one I didn't love..................hope i can find out what the name of the plant is on the pink and blue one with the little curly Q in the center.........

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I know! Those are both beautiful. You have a new camera technique? Your pics are great!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

No new camera technique.............just leave it on the macro little flower............

Wow, Jan! You go girl! Look at all those blooms.....nice pics, too..........

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

gessiegail...my compliments on getting a very good photo of Black Panther. That one isn't easy to do with the dark flowers. Yours is perfect! I love that sweet unknown strep too.

Good morning, Jannich. Your kohleria Sunshine does look happy and sunny with the golden background. Very pretty along with Galiwinku.

No blooms here but I do like the foliage on hoya 'picta' growing on the top shelf under the lights.

GL, that is the healthiest hoya I have ever seen. Mine are outside and they look like it, too!!!

Medford, NJ

That is a pretty hoya, looks like my carnosa "Rubra"...I think they are all carnosas, with different names depending on the sellers. Mine is blooming now...but slowly losing it's variegation. If you see any vines come thru with solid green leaves, pinch them out, because the plant will eventually revert to green if you allow the solid leaves to become a majority.

Gail someone I know just bought to quite beautiful hoyas from you, you grow some gorgeous plants, I know, I have seen them and have some from your cuttings!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

I love those Streps.'maybe Cloise' is very unusual!
Jan, Galiwinku is so cute!! That's a really nice Kohleria too.
GL,your hoya is beautiful.It doesn't need flowers.

I live those! Really like the color of the leaves on Star of Bethlehem. I have one that survived at my house, but no blooms!

Laura,
It shouldn't be long for blooms.Episcias are very fast growers.

I just love the first violet at the top of this thread, "Fantasy Maker"
As I am looking at and falling in love with more and more violets, I am really liking the "fantasy" ones, or the ones with specked or sparkled petals. I had a store bought one a few yrs back that was pink with purple specks on the flower, oh it was so pretty - lost it in a move, don;t remember how, it just didn't survive.

Who is the best distributer of the fantasy type violets - or really any violets? I have never ordered on line, and don't have enuff of a violet collection to trade, so am a little afraid to order not knowing who the best sellers are, there are so many!!! I don't want to bid like on ebay, I would just would like to buy a few outright from a good, reliable company with healthy plants - just leaves right now because of money reasons. Would love to hear who everyone's favorite seller is!

Thanks

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

jmp24,
One thing that would help you a lot is to go to the "Garden Watchdog" .It lists the top sellers and includes member comments about others. Also, check the marketplace on this site.I really don't have any recent experience with ordering AVS,but I do know Dave's Violets and Rob's are always reliable and I know there are many others.

Lynn

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Both of those are terrific vendors but not inexpensive...........
The best on ebay is PJs violet for 4.50 and a nice growing and blooming violet...........His violets are 'But it now' so you don't have to bid.........I was pleasantly surprised and his shipping costs are low, too.......

******edited to say "BUY IT NOW' (LOL)

thanks - great sites! How to choose????

Haven't checked PJ's on ebay yet. My dad really likes ebay and buys alot, if I see something I really like I could just call him up and ask him to get it for me.
