Gail, you are very, very sick, but in a good way!! ^_^. Maybe you could rent or build another little space for all of those Streps.LOL.
Jan,I am not ready to do any AV trading at the moment either. Most of mine are babies or rooted leaves making babies. It was just a comment because I admire yours!!
At the moment I have my first little Strep. babies from leaves coming up,AVs with babies and Episcia babies, plus a bunch of little Sinns. still in a baby stage.
My starts of Chirita,Nemanathus, etc. are all rooted.
When the rest of the Strep. leaves start reproducing I will be frantically looking for space.

Turtle,
I miss you!! It looks like you love all creatures, especially when they are in the helpless stage. You are a true nurturer.Mice and snakes I can handle and turtles are adorable. How do you feel about insects and spiders LOLOL ?

'M'...thanks for all the time and effort taking all the lovely violet show plant pics! Always a pleasure to see.

Susan...bless you for your tender critter heart ;) Feel better soon. Always worth a try to reuse leaves if they are still nice especially on special varieties we really want to increase. I will post a pic of one of the streps received in our trade...''Candy Apple'. It has grown so well into a large very full plant.

Gail, you are going to have tons more streps! I know propagating them is your favorite part of growing.

phoebesviolets...you are doing so well with your violet photos!

I will always keep strep Purple Panda (D.Thompson). It has never been out of bloom for 8 months now and counting. Easy to grow good looking plant.

GL,
They are beauties (as are all of your plants)!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

My Purple Panda didn't survive the move. I will get that one again. Definitely a keeper, GL!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Thank you, ibrabec. I don't know you except for posting on DG but you seem to me to be the sweetest person. You mentioned being a CNA. My opinion of CNA's is the good ones are the backbone of the health care profession...many times overworked, underpaid but truly are the most VIP and supremely appreciated by me for one.

Syrumani, do you grow from leaves? If so, I could send you a Purple Panda leaf and a few more if you want.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I do grow from leaves, GL. I think my Purple Panda just didn't like the change in climate. If you have a spare leaf, it would be great to trade for it! Are you looking for anything in particular (keeping in mind I have mostly AV's)?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I love that Candy Apple...........I think the leaf either came from Leaf........or Brenda. Now I can't wait to see her grow and bloom.............

I never get tired of Purple Panda either...........will always have one of her at least........

I have to post a picture of something...........hold on...........here goes the camera again.

Don't have time to list all 23............but here is one of my favorites........a find from GL.......
Bristol's Ida Wanna.....she won't ever be let go......always in bloom even when I trim her leaves.

I just saw Nichole's post and GL's post............I can certainly send you some strep leaves, Nichole....that makes me feel horrible for not doing it.........didn't know you were growing from leaf........

GL,
What a wonderful thing to say! ^_^. I always try to be nice, but at times I am not.^_^ Yes,CNA's do work hard,if they are the ones who truly love and care about the people.I had planned to become a nurse, but back surgery ended that.I have never loved any job as much as working with Alzheimer's patients!!To some people it may sound sad,but if you ever experienced their 'little windows' and the love they have inside you could never forget a single one of them.
Sorry to get so emotional, but this is dear to my heart.

I think I have to grow from leaf . . . at least on streps. I have a hard time bringing streps home . . . I can keep them going for a time, but in the end they all . . . well, you know. Purple Panda was the exception (until the move!). But, the ones that I have grown from leaf do just fine! So, I figure if they grow for me, then they like me! Right now my success rate is not as good as it could be, that's why I keep bringing up questions on "how to". I just spent a good chunk of change on ebay for a strep (you know the leaf of which I speak, Gail!) . . . that one - so far - is still a green color! I'm hoping I've finally got the light issue all corrected - that could have been part of the problem, too!

TurtleChi/Susan: The Critter babies are soo cute ... well, I can't believe I'm saying a mouse is cute ... EEK! LOL, I'm afraid of them but they are cuties, aren't they? Now, Snakes I am totally petrified of! I dont' think they are cute at all! I wouldn't kill one on purpose unless it's poisonous, I like to keep my distance from snakes! Now ... that little "Churtle" is absolutely adorable! I love turtles and one of my nieces called them churtles when she was very young! You really do have a tender critter heart as GL said!

Ibrabec/Lynn: I didn't know you were a CNA. I admire you and commend you for your caring heart! My dear MIL lived to be 97 and had dementia the last few years of her life. At times she didn't remember who she was or where she was and had a lot of confusion, but she always knew who I was. She was in an Assisted Living Home about a mile from us and I spent a lot of time with her. I can't say much good about most of the CNA's where she lived but there were a couple who were very caring and attentive to her needs. It takes special people to do the work you do because it can be a very stressful career. My MIL would be 102 this year and I miss her dearly. She was an inspiration to me. So ... to all of you RN's, LPN's, CNA's ... ((((( Hugs ))))) to you for your caring hearts!

Here's a pic just for you, Lynn . . . It's the first blooms after I disbudded after the show 2 weeks ago. I'll take another after the other buds open!

ibrabec, I truly know exactly what you are saying about the 'windows' to the spirit inside. You are a dear heart for taking good care of them. In your giving, you were blessed.

Gail, I have never been able to get a good photo of Ida Wanna and have tried many times. There a few streps like that where the camera just can't capture the flower. I love sweet Branwen I got from you in one of our trades. When it blooms again, I'll certainly take a good photo. It too has grown so well and is nice and full.

syrumani...I like any variegated violets. Did you see the two big trays of av leaves I put down this past week?

episcia 'Goddess Pele' grown from a stolon Jannich sent.

Nichole: This Lin had 'Frozen in Time' a couple of years ago ... beautiful AV!

GL: Very pretty Episcia!

Where is Jannich by the way ... haven't seen her post recently, or maybe I've just missed her?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I did see what you posted on the other thread, GL! I have those same inserts, and have been fighting the urge to buy more leaves just to fill them!

jannich posted back on the 12th . . . but not since, as far as I could tell . . .

Very nice Lin! Bet they look great by the pool!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Funny on those seed/plug trays! Like getting a big purse and thinking, great! it will hold more stuff ;-)

Gail, it looks like Blue Leyla has a non-conformist in the bunch..
Seeing your pretty Blue Leyla reminds me I have a baby plant of 'Layla' similar name.

Shoebox full of episcia Cleopatra..

Lin, do you grow your chiritas indoors or out?

(Zone 1)

GL: Right now they are in my Florida room. They would never survive the cold if left outside in winter and I'm not sure how much longer they will be sitting out in that room as it isn't air conditioned and gets very, very hot during the summer months. I just moved the stand out there when I was cleaning and haven't moved them back inside yet. I hope to get organized in the next couple of weeks and re-situate them indoors!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Syru, thank you for the picture.I love that one!!
Goldleaf, you sure can grow those Episcias! I have several small plants and a few larger from Gran's last goody box.
Wow,Lin,those Chiritas are big!! I have three babies.Maybe I should quit at that LOL.
Gail,Blue Leyla is so pretty!
I haven't heard from Jannich for a while. The last I did,she was sometimes losing her power from the storms.I hope everything is okay.
Lynn

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I just went and looked my Blue Leyla again and that is a 'foreign' bloom that fell on the Blue Leyla..........how funny...........she is blooming true afterall.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks for the info on Jan.......will do some checking.........

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Gail,that was funny!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Go back and look carefully at the picture and you can see that the solid blue flower is just resting on the other bloom (LOL)

Turtlechi, better watch out! You'll drop that little mouse in the woods somewhere and he'll be finding his way back to your house for free meals and a nice soft knee to sit on!

What kind of turtle is that? I have a thing for turtles. We have boxers that live in some of the huge ivy beds in my yard, they come out alot at this time of year, looking for love, I assume. Early last summer, one of the six little juvenile delinquent monsters living next door found one in the backyard, and in 80 degree plus heat he had it out in the sun in a metal galvanized bucket. I went over to take a look, and to advise him and 2 of his sisters that the turtle would be much happier if he let it go. Of course he got smart with me, then said he was keeping it - which, knowing this kid and his parents, would have meant the end for this poor turtle. I tried to reason with him (the kid, not the turtle) but he got smart with me, so I went home and for the rest of the afternoon thoughtfully watched that bucket sitting in full sun in their backyard, already forgotten by the kids. Now don't get me wrong, I think it is great for kids to have pets, but only if they are responsible and compassionate. If you met this kid, you would understand my concern.

My only choice was to set my alarm for 3 am, put on my cat burgler clothes, and sneak into their yard to liberate Mr Turtle from bondage and impending death. Not an easy feat, considering they have three big dogs and the bucket was right outside their back patio door, brat's dad asleep on the couch probably only a few feet away.. Every step of my moccasined feet on their grass sounded like a loud CRUNCH you could hear 10 miles away....But my mission was a sucess.

The things we do for our fellow creatures!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

So why was dad sleeping on the couch--LOL!

Nice job--you are a brave turtle advocate! I wish more people had more respect for animals.

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Potting up episcia stolons today..why? when the weather is so nice outside and there is so much to be done.

This one is another of those hard to capture in a photo. Big and bold, I could say dramatic when it blooms in red. Labeled as Mint Julep but I am not 100% sure it is but will accept that for now till I learn otherwise.

GL, that episcia has the most handsome colors I have ever seen..........can imagine how nice with red blooms with the colors of the foliage!!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

I really love those dark leaved ones!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Good word used to describe this episcia, Gail. It is handsome and one I think men would really like also.

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Hi everybaody! Here I am ^_^. Been busy doing home/yard work lately.Blueberry season is starting in a week and I need to get things finished cause nothing gets done for the month.I have a lot of catching up to do.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Don't work such long hours, Jan!!!! We will be thinking of you..............

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

It's great to see you back ^_^!
Lynn

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Phoebe, are you aware that the particular seller you are referring to on ebay sells 2 leaved plantlets.......to keep them alive, you have to dome them for over 2 months..............people need to know. She has some great offerings but I almost fainted when I received the only ones I ever ordered from her.
