What's Happening in Your neighborhood-visit with friends #18

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning folks,

Looks lovely at the moment, but the weather forecast says cloudy and showers. Oh well, just like me to spend to only three good gardening days doing something else.

The handbell festival is over for another two years. We got all our equipment and bells safely back to the church last night after the final concert. The guest conductor was awesome - I think we all learned a lot and the workshops were very good as well.

I WILL go to church this morning and hope that there's some possibility of getting into the garden this afternoon. If it rains, I guess I have a filthy house I could attend to. But I know it will wait until I get around to it.

Theresa - I think you are right - especially about Canadians living on the prairies and northern Ontario.

Have a great Sunday.

Talk about cold and rainy today..didn't stop us do my 13 year old grandson Kyle's... "Kyle's Bike-A-Thon for the cancer cure"...

I'm still trying to warm up, but Kyle did achieve 2 things..his goal was having about 50 in attendance and he had more than that even with the rain, many also dropped of their pleges but didn't do the run..

His goal was trying to raise $1,000 which is a lot for a youngster and he ended up with $3,300 and more coming in..we're proud of his endeavours...

Yesterday was a beautiful day..up early and got so much accomplished...painted the little cafe set I found on the roadside in red, made pillows for it...painted the old bench and did an insert for the back, dug in more brick stepping stones, started the linoleum floormat for front deck (who knows if my fingers unthaw I just might finish it tonight)...

So with all of this I'm tired/tired...hey, 30 kl. ride is a lot for an old lady who doesn't ride a bike more than a couple of times every decade...

Even the Mayor came out to pledge and told Kyle council would be giving him a certificate of honor at council..

When you are finished all your projects you can come and finish mine please!

Love the red furniture!

The stepping stones should be great for a game of hopscotch if you didnt put them too far apart!

Kinda cool and cloudy today but it did not freeze last night - at least at my house but it is so close I am still covering the containers.

Had a great piece of mail today - had paid a big sum to the govt when I filed my income tax - was pretty sure I made a mistake but I couldnt find it so I just sent it in because I learned many years ago they will check it - today I got a really big check in the mail - I sure did make a mistake!
What a nice surprize - now I could go out and buy more plants couldnt I??

LOL! Better plant what I have first!

What a SUPER treat Carol :-) Kinda restores ones faith in Revenue Canada !!! And .. I betcha there WILL be some new plants in your future.

It is AGAIN so WINDY here .. it's like an October day .. the thermometer is barely rising above 58F .. helped take up some of the Spruce trees this morning and have 'gummy hands' as a pay back .. but .. in order for the BIG veg garden to thrive .. those branches had to go to let the sun in.

The drapery fella came and installed my drapes and blind .. what a huge difference .. while he was here I sat outside with Lilly .. and .... :o( she killed a squirrel .. I was majorly upset .. she has come close before, but never actually 'connected' .. and .. I know it's in a Terrier's blood .. but .. it isn't in mine .... she knows I'm upset and is feeling bad I am sure .. sometime 'nature' gets way too real !!

Love the pics of your projects Betty .. the RED furniture is lovely, and, CONGRATS to Kyle for all his hard work .. so nice to see ..

Guess I'll do some dusting today .. toss up between that and baking a rhubarb coffee cake.

The husband of one of my ringers took video of us at the bell concert on Satruday evening and has posted it to YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxX9uZ3bWD4&feature=email for part one and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8A8EohZjYA&feature=related for part two

I haven't seen it all yet myself because my Internet is too slow. It's loading in the background and I'll replay it. My group is the one in black with red ties.

Visitors arrive Friday .. so am in the final stages of preparation .. have written myself a 'to do list' for each day .. I doubt it'll work .. but .. it may keep me focused.

Our biggest bell is 6 pounds. Bass bell ringers get kind of possessive of their bells.

If we look grim in the first clip it's because the music is hard - harder than Copper level (middle difficulty) music is supposed to be. If you do the optional chime part on the first piece - Somos del Senor, it's definitely a Bronze level piece. I wouldn't let my group use our chimes when we played it in church and most of them decided not to use the chimes at the Festival either.

If I look grim it's because I didn't decide until that morning which bells I was going to play and I missed the first copper level rehearsal because there was a workshop I really wanted to attend at the same time. I played different bells on the massed pieces for which I was at all the rehearsals.
