No HIGH temps here yesterday .. we hit maybe 20 or 22C .. pleasant temps.
My 3 Lilac bushes are budding and leafing, and the purple/white flowers are probably going to show in a week or so.
Gotta LOVE Lilacs .. I usually drive up our country road to a farmers long forgotten field .. just off the road is a grove of beautiful standard lilacs .. I get a few bunches and call it good :-)
The property got cut and trimmed this weekend .. and I continued my 'Twitch a thon' .. seems the stuff NEVER lets up !!
My DayLillies MAY be coming back .. fingers crossed ..
Typically windy out there this morning with a kinda foreboding looking sky in the west .. good day to do grocery shopping !!
Hope everyone has a super week

What's Happening in Your neighborhood-visit with friends #18
Morning, sunshine here, probably the high of 19 but that's ok...after working the entire day Saturday and telling myself Sunday was a 'sit and enjoy' day I got sidetracked...lol
Started early with hemming curtains for the new dining room window, then outside for a walk around, well that was a mistake..put over 8 more hours of hard labor in..figure by what I got done, 3 more weekends ought to do it...
Started with the pond, did mega edging..everything is so green, the odd plant has a flower but it's amazing how beautiful the greens are..
other side...
Don't you just hate it when you work so hard to beautify your property only to look into the yards that abut yours and it's unkept i.e. garbage and non interest even in cutting the grass?
Storm this spring brought down a tree which then smashed the fencing on the neighbors side but fencing was down about 7 ft. on my side..asked them to pull it over to theirs so I can plant some trees and beautify, nope, still not done..so here I am, 61 years old, pushing and lifting fencing while he cleans the garage and his 2 teens age sons are out sunning themselves..must say I'd have loved to go get them by the ear and put them to work..not one came to help... oh well...
Betty - whose tree was it? And was the fence THEIR fence or a shared one? There might be some by-laws that would help.
WHEW!!!! I just re paved the driveway, painted the stucco on the house .. changed out the shingles on the roof, planted the 1/4 acre veggie garden and whipped up a stunning FIVE course dinner for 10 !!! Boy am I tired !!!
LOL .. tricked ya !!! By the time I read about everything you guys are doing and accomplishing, I feel like a wee twit !
I have done nothing but pick twitch and weeds ... I am swearing OFF Annuals this year .. $300./yr is just way too much, especially when they only last perhaps 2 months .. I will purchase (or make) a few hanging baskets but gone are the days of 12 to 15 flats of flowers. OH .. I will ALWAYS do my ONE Tuberous Begonia planter.. the colours are too amazing to pass up :o)
I have to agree with Ann .. re the tree .. was it your tree? If so .. you may be covered by house insurance .. had one fall down on our neighbours garage roof when we lived in the city .. our insurance paid for the removal of the tree, and the repair of the soffit and faccia on the neighbours garage .
Bottom line on the whole situation is I am disgusted you got no help .. just not right !!
Made up 30 baglettes of food for Lilly today .. lordie this raw food gig can be time consumming at times .. worth it .. but .......................................
I should really go and get supper on the make .. and NOT a 5 course meal for 10 ^_^
TTFN
~M~
O my goodness, Betty - sounds like the tree might have been a shared one, but even so - doncha just LOVE it when others stand around and openly watch while YOU do the work......... the little shysters!
Marilyn - you're sure the little trickster :-) Still and all - you do a whole heap of work arouond your place, so don't ever think you can't take it easy now & then!
Yesterday my DH & I cleared out yard. Not a large one, but the leaves were about 5" deep! Between the poplar next door and our fir tree, it's quite a mess. Good thing we have the leaf blower! It's got the metal blades and I'm glad of that!!
It was sure a good idea about kijiji.com! I found two ladders for sale, so now have a ball-park price of what to sell ours for.
Really got a load of lumber moved and hope to have my backyard in grass this year. Picked up the Canada Green Perfect Grass, and ?!should!? have grass in 2 weeks....
Will keep you posted!
-Susan-
"M" you had me thinking you had eaten your "Popeye spinach" lol...could be done I guess but you hadn't mentioned any of those chores..raw food bags (?) do you freeze them...
As for the tree, was their tree, had to be 60'-was in the very back corner and reached the fencing...the fencing is totally theirs as well..they are just not ambitious and when I want something done it's today not next week or next month, not everyone things the same..here I am doing patio area, cleaning, you would think they'd have gotten the hint that it had to be moved when I was pushing and lifting it..but no...
Good for you Susan, are you going to now list them..ohhh $$$$ for gardening..
Saw my first hummingbird yesterday morning...didn't see him at the feeder just in the flowers..guess they taste better...
Wind is up today and on the cool side but no snow so I'm thrilled..
Tired today, with watching movies half the night, working all day and then painting class last night it was midnight before I fell asleep...sure would have been nice to sleep in this a.m.
We have RAIN .. but .. I guess that it's ALL good as the veg garden went in yesterday ...
Our first Hummingbird arrived on May 12. Have been feeling sorry for them ever since .. they sure do use the feeders put up for them.
Ran about town for several hours picking up the donations for Hospice from the companies that supported Hospice NorthWest during 'Dress Down Fridays' in April. Gosh .. I think there has to be in excess of about $400. !!!!
Will take it in to the office tomorrow.
The electric fence is 80% complete around the veg garden .. I am so so about it .. want to know if it will cause probs for the many many songbirds we have .. guess that's why you tie the tapes to it.
Off to create a culinary miracle with LEFTOVERS LoL
~M~
o Betty - you read my mind!! $$$ for gardening, indeed! Seeing as how he's clearing the yard for me to garden, that's exactly where the $$$ will go!! LOL
Part of it will be in grass, as I don't have any grass now, and part of it will be my potted plants and my potting table! It's meant to be my area to contemplate and chat with my neighbour over the "garden fence" lol She's a gardener, too, and she's getting free plants and says she'll have too many!! I think our church is gonna get some more flowers LOL
Susan
Morning, raining lightly but nice for the garden...as for my project 'Canada Green grass seed' I'm thinking their advertisement isn't what it is advertized as..nope, no signs of grass and it will be a week tomorrow..maybe by the weekend I'll see little grass hairs...so moral of this story is don't rush out looking for that seed...
I'm looking forward to this Saturday Church Plant Sale...have a few areas just waiting for plants...
Can you believe it's almost June..before you know it, well let's just not go there...
Fell asleep on the chesterfield last night, knew I should NOT have taken a bath and sat, anyway, telephone woke me out of a deep sleep..hospital calling to tell me my c-scan is June 11th..as it's at 9:30, by the time I get out I'll not drive to work so called to make appt. for my eyes in the afternoon...vision still a little off..oh well, if it weren't for the numb fingers I'd believe the doctor who thinks it's ocular migraines....
Just looked at the weather chanel..40% rain for Saturday..hope it changes as Greg is having a 40th for my DIL Melanie, wanted it all outside...he's worked hard on the pool and grounds..let's hope it rains after my plant sale and before the party..not asking for much now am I...
Friend Darlene also called me yesterday to tell me her mother had a stroke...having difficulties finding words but other than that she's doing ok...joys of getting older...
Having a 'nice day' here .. just around maybe 15C, partly sunny. First time this season I dressed all in white to go into the city ..
Betty .. someone once told me that 'getting old is NOT for sissies' !!! I believe that for sure. I also remember meeting an older colleague years ago, she had been retired for about 2 years. I said something like "wow .. you must just LOVE having time for yourself". She chuckled and said .. "on my yes .. time to go to the doctor, go for blood work, go for xrays .." .. We both laughed .. at the retirement was YEARS away for me .. but .. I now see her point !!!!
I can sure empathise with you re the numb fingers !! I have my nerve conduction studies in June .. haven't slept a full night through since JANUARY 18 !!!
Joy of joy we have a BEAR in the area .. I went down for the paper this morning .. on the way back I looked down and saw the paw prints !!!! Heart started beating a bit faster and I have now given the paper retrieval job to someone else !!
Got Lilly's enclosure cut today .. but .. so much more weeding to do .. I guess I best get at it ..
~M~
Sounds as though you are busy "M"..best watch out for those bears..waking up and hungry isn't the time you want to meet up with one..
Still raining here, went for lunch, well had to stop at the nursery, ended up with 6 cedar trees so I'm hoping it clears just long enough for me to plant before my girls come for class...
OMG, just have to share this, know it's long but please read.....
Love the photo's Judy...
Debbie, been to your thread, my heart aches for you..did you find your contact? trip to the nursery helps bring some sunshine into your life...
OK
For anyone feeling down, I just had to post this...here I am, all others out for lunch and I'm laughing away, tears falling, just tooooo funny! Tubby, start reading...
PLEASE READ...
ONLY A MAN WOULD ATTEMPT THIS
Just try reading this without laughing till you cry!!! Pocket Tazer Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife. A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Tazer for their anniversary submitted this:
Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie.. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse- sized tazer. The effects of the tazer were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety...??
WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs. AWESOME!!!
Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave. Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong?
So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and tazer in another. The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries. All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference; pretty cute really and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries) thinking to myself, 'no possible way!' What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best.. .?
I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, 'don't do it dipstick,' reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and . .
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD . . WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION . .
WHAT THE H+LL!!!
I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testi***s nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs? The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room.
Note: If you ever feel compelled to 'mug' yourself with a tazer, one note of caution: there is no such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor.. A three second burst would be considered conservative?
IT HURT LIKE H+LL!!!
A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I had no control over the drooling.
Apparently I pooped on myself, but was too numb to know for sure and my sense of smell was gone. I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head which I believe came from my hair. I'm still looking for my n+ts and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!
P.S. My wife, can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift, and now regularly threatens me with it!
If you think education is difficult, try being stupid !!!
Oh my doG where did you find that Betty!
Like you , tears I laughed so hard. Dogs wondering what is going on!
Another warm sunny day here, still things to plant , still a few not in the ground, having trouble deciding where to put them. And except for potatoes and cabbage still have not got the veggie garden seeded!
Dogs had a bath and groom this morning - she sets up in my back porch have not done since mid Feb so lots of hair!
We started a rally obedience class Monday evening - just for mental exercise ( theirs not mine!) have not done any rally for several years. They did so well the instructor suggested I rethink about not putting them in trials! We will see.
LMAO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can see this happening in MANY homes !!!! Too funny .. I kinda think the 'cat' aspect adds more comedy as anyone who has a feline (or canine) knows how intently they watch you with something new ..
Loved it Ms Betty :o)
Supper is done ... dishes on the clean (I hope) and I am likely gonna hit the pit EARLY tonight .. have been up way too long.
Lilly goes to the groomer for 9am in the morning .. she's a lovely shade of GREEN (she rolled in new mown grass) ..
so .. while she is getting her 'DO' I think I may be looking around the nurseries for perennials .. or .. looking for new lighting for the living room .. guess I have to pick my poison LoL
Enjoy your evening ..
~M~
WILL POWER has NEVER been my strong point !!! I am the proud 'keeper' of 3 gorgeous hanging baskets stuffed full of the MOST wondrous coloured PANSIES !! Call me kooky, but, I have not seen (that I recollect) a hanging basket full of pansies.
One basket (very fragrant) has mauve and Yellow and white, while the 2 others have BRIGHT yellow with chocolate brown faces mixed with rust and burgundy colours. Am going to have to dead head and water frequently .. right now they are resplendant .. ^_^
Lilly didn't shock the groomer with her green tint .. and came from the appt sparkling clean, only to bound into her enclosure and roll in spent sunflower seed shells !!!
Lunch with the gurls today .. then off to visit my hospice client who is moving from her home (a sweet apt) of 22 years, into a seniors complex ... sad days for her and her family.
TGIF
~M~
Not sure "M" that I've seen pansy hangers will have to be on the lookout..
My plans for this weekend are to get another 8 stepping stone blocks in hopes to complete the patio walkway, church plant sale tomorrow (that will do mega damage to my wallet) lol DIL Melanie's 40th birthday party, some more garden work and there goes the weekend..
OMG last night I went to portrait class and on the way home it rained soooo hard I couldn't even see the road, this morning it's drizzling and much the same for tomorrow..wouldn't you know, it's weekend time again...
So what do you all have planned...seeing I have no sunshine perhaps it's moved to your home town..
Looks like another sunny day here.
Got a few more things planted yester but still some left. And have not done the veggies either!
A friend looking for donations for her almost bare gardens ( new baby, mat leave, reduced income!) came over and we managed to dig up quite a few. She had also been down south to see Joanne (JoannaBanana) who seeded way to much this spring and was sending visitors home with armloads of annuals!
Hope to get the left overs planted today - a big job is switching a big daylily and a procumbant spruce in the front yard. The spruce was just put in last summer so I hope will not be too difficult.
Tomorrow visiting with Les (dahlianut) to pick up some plants and working at the House on Sunday.
A former foster dog coming Sat AM to stay overnight while his owners go to a wedding in Banff.
For me thats a busy weekend!
Weather continues to be hot and dry here in the Southern Interior. High today is 32C. Got my watering and primping done early this morning. The AC will be buzzing later in the day.
Off to visit family in Alberta and Saskatchewan this weekend for 2 weeks. Trying to beat the madcap holiday traffic of July and August. Have my neighbor looking after my gardens....but I will worry so. After all, I am the only one that knows each and every plant , shrub and flower, personally.
Supposed to be 27c today (whew! that's hot!) and my plants love it.
Planted 2 hanging strawberry baskets, and this morning saw a red strawberry! It's not totally ripe cuz it's too firm just yet, but WOW!
Yesterday came home to find my petunias are blooming! (thank you Joannabanana!)
I have flowers on my tomatoe plant, too! (gotta love greenhouses!)
Joanne - thank you so much for the annuals - you're such a "giving" person, and I thank you for it! :-)
Oh Don........are you passing through Calgary on your trip east?
-Susan-
You must have all felt sorry for me and sent me sunshine...
Watching the clock here, almost 2, 1 more hour to go..dropping in to DIL's this aft to wish her Happy birthday, surprise party tomorrow ight...might even make Atlas Block for the cement slabs..won't get them put in, must have pulled a muscle ..hurting like h..l but hey, if I put it to work might work it back into place..lol
How nice to help a newbie gardener..wish I lived closer, I could help out...
Don, do enjoy your vacation..seems you are always on vacation..hmmm
32C..omg..lucky you..bet your gardens are thriving and Suzanne 27C, think it's about 18C here...I'm thrilled about the 'no' rain today.
Susan, we will be passing ~around~ Calgary on our way up to Edmonton and then Bonnyville. Then on up further north into Saskatchewan. I'll be the one saying, Are we there yet...and can we go home now? :'(
My flowers ARE loving it and thriving, Betty. It's amazing what a few days of 30C will do for growing plants. My hybrid Tea Roses are full of buds and I have my tomato plants in a SE garden and they are all in bloom. Hopefully when we arrive back home, I will have baby 'maters and Rose Blossoms! ^_^
Wishing you a return to Sunshine and warmer temps. You know it'll happen!
This message was edited May 29, 2009 2:00 PM
Don - sorry we won't be seeing you in Calgary as you "pass around" :-(
It's already hot here - 21c @ 9:30! yikers!!
I've posted this in the 2009 Mini-Roundup in Calgary forum, but here it is again in case you're nearby and missed it:
Update - as a lot of people don't seem to be available in Calgary for the August 15/16th weekend, I propose we have it TBA for date & location.
I will organize it, but don't have room in my trailer if it's inclement weather (have loads of room on my deck - 16x19' - for an outdoor one, however...)
As I said, I'll organize it (I love organizing lol), and if someone will offer their home, that would be fantastic!
So - all our 'buds' who want to have a Calgary mini-roundup, and visit from near & far - please let me know what dates are good for you, and if you'd offer your space to a mini-roundup - I'll work on the other stuff!
-Susan-
Waiting for S N O W here in Tbay I am SURE of it !!
Frost warning is out .. and I have planters in and some 'tender perennials that have flowered, covered.
WIthout the WIND the weather would be fine ... but .. NW winds are NEVER good news ..
Have a super trip Don ^_^
~M~
Oh my - surely not! Says she from Calgary which has had snow every month of the year!
Another warm sunny day here - went to visit Les(Dahlianut) who had a couple of Autumn Joy sedums for me - took her a hosta, came home with 2 sedums, 3 dahlias and 3 astilbes! And I thought most of the perennial planting was finished.
Still have annuals to seed and the veggies too. Maybe Monday?
Ex foster dog Shiloh is here overnight while his owners go to a wedding in Banff. Think I better take him out for an evening stroll.
Carol, how did you get away from her place with only three Dahlias???? I had to stop her from putting more in my car last weekend when I was over there. You probably need some more - want some of mine? I have twenty five and maybe room for half that. LOL. Business as usual; I end up with too many plants every year. Ü
Joanne
Because she only gave me little ones ( knew I did not have room for biggies!)and I did not want red!
No I dont want more but if you have not got room I know somebody who needs plants!
Still hot, hot , hot in BC's Southern Interior. it was 33.3C at 3:30pm; unfortunately we were gone for the day and didn't start the AC before we left; it was 29 C inside :( Hot, dry conditions expected for the rest of next week
We are heading out to AB on Monday early where it's supposed to be cooler. It will be nice for traveling. Still wish we didn't have to go as my Roses buds are bursting and I'll miss two weeks of bloom time. Ah well, there is always the next flush, I guess.
Here's a couple of my plants blooming right now.
Diasica..one of my favorite annuals. They get to be a huge trailing mound. Love the Coral color.
Tee Hee! Danger! Danger! Enter my garden at your own risk! You WILL leave with dahlias ^_^ Actually it works well. I always pot up alot of extra border (short) dahlias so friends can treat them as annuals in containers or borders and just get new ones from me next year. Happy Provincial Tree Day Albertans!!! Lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta) became our provincial tree on this day in 1984 ^_^
Looking fabby as always DonM47
AWESOME pics Don, and I have to agree re the Coral colour of the one plant, lovely ^_^
Just in from a wee walk with Lilly .. we are blanketed with F R O S T here .. silvery grass and white rooves on houses !!
My hanging baskets were in and I was able to put some plastic over my JUST bloomed Bleeding Heart. As well .. we went to the cemetery last evening and jury rigged a little shelter for some of the Geraniums Lorna and her boss babied along all winter and had been put outside to harden off .. he left after a service yesterday and forgot to do it .. I must say the grounds look awesome !! LOADS of work have been done .. gratifying work.
Probably cut the property today .. actually it's the DANDILIONS .. lordy .. quite the EXPLOSION .. many many 'seas of bright yellow' around here .. I have tried to endear them to myself .. BUT .. I think that only works when a small child hands you a bouguet of them thinking they are your favourite flower LoL
Enjoy the LAST day of May
~M~
Here's a link that Im sure alot of you may enjoy

Its a wonderful day here today, very sunny and warm..hope everyone enjoys their day.
Cindy
Wow! That's impressive. Wish it were warm here. It was sunny this morning when I went to church. got ready to get into the garden and it got blustery and rainy. I'm hoping maybe the rain has quit and I can at least harvest some rhubarb.
Ann
SNOW in North Bay, COOL here and now LOTS of rain ...
Hope you got some rhubarb Ann .. have made one pie this season .. and am hoping the plants hold out for a bit .. may freeze some as we're having house guests for several days in mid June.
I rec'd a picture similar to the one Cindy sent us .. only it was Tulip fields in Holland .. WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was in an email so I can't share.
BBQing steaks .. in the rain .. the joys of a Canadian summer in the north LoL
~M~
Mmmm rhubarb pie...
Holy crap - snow??? That's just wrong. And I thought that would only happen in late May in Calgary. LOL.
Lovely day here today, though it's clouding up a bit now. Hope we get a bit of a shower, we could use it.
Planted my brains out today, but the number of plants doesn't seem to be reducing. What's up with that?
Joanne
Jo - Plants aren't meant to decrease lol
I just came from Leslie's and she gave me a whole whack of plants :-)
I didn't realize that some geraniums are perennials!! Wow - Thanks Leslie!
I'm looking forward to the Dahlia Tea when it happens :-) You may make me a convert yet LOL
Have fun planting the Hen & Chicks, Leslie - they're MY thing lol - I think every garden should have 'em - they're a No Fail type of plant and really "bump" up the garden :-)
Judiciously thined out of course, cuz they can get really "balled up" lol
I like the spreading kind myself :-)
-Susan-
I decimated my rhubarb plants. Took more than I planned but some of the stalks just broke off. All in all, I guess I got about 6 litres of cut up rhubarb. Stewed up 6 cups of the reddest stuff. About 3- 3 1/2 litres I covered with water and made unsweetened rhubarb juice to use in my Epiphany party punch next January. (I also cooked up what was left in the freezer). And I froze two 1-litre bags.
Did a bit of weeding and then tried to start pulling out crocus foliage, but some of it isn't ready to come yet. Came in to deal with the rhubarb and at one point we had some hail. Off and on sunny and rainy all afternoon. The rest of the week is supposed to be better, I think. I've got plants all over the patio that need to go into the garden or into my large patio pots.
This past week, I dedicated Monday and Tuesday to finishing the Canadian viola Society Newsletter that should have been done a month ago. Also had 4 students on Tuesday. Wednesday, I was with the Raging Grannies most of the day and evening at the Civic Centre where there was an arms-trade show. We had a Peace Garden and in the evening there was a vigil. Thursday morning, we had a Grannie meeting with the visiting grannies who came from Toronto and Montreal.
Friday, I got the newsletter from the printer and got it into envelopes and ready to mail. (Theresa - yours was mailed yesterday). And in between all this I had viola to practice because the OCO had a concert last night with 5 outstanding young string players as soloists - a competition. I had missed almost half the rehearsals before the dress rehearsal yesterday due to other musical conflicts. That all explains why I've been pretty scarce around here.
Now to the garden. Plant sale went so well that I will have a cheque for $250 for my church revitalization. I still have a few plants left, but they will survive in pots for awhile if necessary and can be sold at a plant sale that accompanies the church garden tour in July.
Tomorrow, they will come and service our AC. This is the third appointment. they'd better come. They DID call last week to tell me they were going to have to reschedule and I informed them that they'd already done that twice and the first two times they didn't bother to call and let us know. They reconsidered and said they would be here. (We paid for this servicing as part of our furnace plan last autumn or we'd be looking for someone new to do it).
At the end of this week, the Provincial Handbell Festival is being held in Ottawa. Starts Thursday evening and I have to get organized on how we are all getting the bells there and getting ourselves there. Carpooling is the way to go with the expense of parking passes.
And finally, if any of you want the Gnomes on their return visit and haven't let me know, please do to tonight. Tomorrow I will put the itinerary together. (See the other thread about their return trip).
Ann
Whew, Ann!! You sure are busy - do you have time to breathe in-between all these meetings, and such?
We had our first return Handbell practice last Wed (missed our strongest one cuz she was working that night) and our next is on Tues.
We hope to play them on June 14 & 21st or 28th - may be just a few of us, but they're stalwart types and won't give up cuz they love the bells! They won't let me give up on them, either lol they're such a sweet bunch, even my DH!
I was going to plant the stuff that Leslie gave me, but it started to rain lol
Lovely big drops, but just a sun-shower....... it's pretty much a "blow-by".
Tomorrow we get our new hot tub cover, and a lifter for it, to boot!! I'm rather pleased because the old cover was so water-saturated that I couldn't lift it by myself, and only got to use 1/2 of the hot tub in our back yard. And I like (hahahaha) that the tree branches from next door, when they broke, fell on our canvas/plastic "tent" that we had above/around it and poked gigantic holes in the top so my DH had to remove the top. Now I can see the sunshine in the daytime and, if they remove the tree from my neighbours (she wants it gone, too), I'll be able to see the stars as well!
Can't remember who suggested www.kijiji.ca for the selling of my DH's ladders, but we've gotten 4 solid nibbles, so hopefully they'll be gone soon.....then I can have more of my backyard!
I think my next project is to Severly cut down my carrigana tree because it's getting too leggy and woody. Doesn't have enough leaves, and the branches are very prickly to pass by. Not very attractive, and I really like carrigana bushes/trees. They have such sunny flowers, but this year the leaves are slow and no flowers yet at all. I just think it was inappropriately planted.......
Finally moved my planting table off the deck and it's in my "backyard" (which will BE a backyard once I have the ladders out LOL) Next weekend I hope to have the lumber cut for the upper shelving extension for it. Will keep you posted.
-Susan-
Hi all you greenhouse lovers in Calgary - I saw this on kijiji.ca, and thought if someone's handy, they might want to build the frame for these greenhouse windows.........

1. I don't have enuff room for a bigger greenhouse than I have.
2. It would never get built, and I'd just end up with greenhouse windows LOL
I know there are some super-charged people out there who would love these! (no, it's not my ad, and I don't know who placed it........)
