Tropical Plants #39
I see your being your usual MEAN self, RJ. And just for your information--IT IS RAINING HERE RIGHT NOW!!! HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!
Just remember my machete is bigger than your machete and I will come in the dark of night when you least expect. I also have a ferocious attack dog guarding my place remember!!!! LOL
dale your rain lilies are such a deep pretty color of pink. Mine are always a paler color. Wonder if mine will bloom now that we are getting some rain.
Rita your irises are so pretty!!
Look what I got RJ on Friday and none for you!!!!!
I've had tons of rain, but my rain lilies are not coming up. Wonder why??? I got lots of blooms last year. May be not warm enough?
What a cute little toad :)
something japonica?
I'll check it out
pink honeysuckle in bloom now
joeswife--how do you keep your honeysuckle from getting mildew on the leaves. Yours looks so healthy. I've had to cut mine back and am trying a new spray some one told me about to see if I can get rid of it.
Mornin" I have no clue why mildew comes on, but if it does ( on my monardas and lilacs and roses) I put whole milk in my hose sprayer and spray. seems to work.. my mil told me about this about 20 years ago...
That had to be a bait, Randy. There's no way in the world I would ever know a plant and you not. I've been contemplating buying one but don't know just where I could put it. They get so big. As always, everything in your garden goes above and beyond. The hoja santa gets about six feet but spreads by roots all over everywhere. The leaves get huge. One of the yard crew said they are selling the leaves at $17.00 per pound at the market. They use them to wrap tamales. We were told to wrap fish and steam, broil, grill, whatever.

for the mold I use messenger.. which is about enough on the roses .. it convinces the plant it is under attack.. and it spurs the natural defences to these problems.. so they are in place before the attack..
I have a fungicide I use on occasion.. but this doesn't really kill the mold but it does coat the leaves.. if you can get it on a new unexposed leaf.. it will prevent it from having spores landing on it ..digging in and infecting it.. prevenitive.. not really a treatment..
the third weapon in the fungal wars here is.. the daily spraying of The Recipe.. the home made feed / spray containing Tea Tree Oil.. natures fungicide..
Result: scarcely any problem on the roses.. and mandevilla the honeyscuckle.. has very little..
also.. a plain water spray in the early morning is most helpful.. washing off the spores that have floated about... and landed on the leaves in the night's moist air.... before they can dig in and grow.. hiding from the dry sun..
prevntion works.. treatment is less effective .. start early..before you see it..
When you spray the whole milk, does it leave a bad smell???? That will be easy to do once our winds settle down.
Messenger is the best.
I imagine that milk probably contains hormones that may act in a same fashion as Messenger.
Whew! It took me a while..but I finally found something on it....here is link for the curious cow milk subject! Lots of info on it actually...
