Hummingbird Adventures #8
duc,
I like the perched photos almost as much as the others, maybe more. You see them in a different way when they are being still. Yup, those are bananas. They do look nice, and hopefully won't break the branch when they get bigger. Last time I had to prop them up. I probably need to fertilize them.
Don't tell the other hummers, but Zippy is probably my favorite. The others may have showier colors, but she is better company. LOL!
More photos, coming up later on!

We've been having gray May mornings. Too little moisture to help our dried out hills. No hummer photos from this morning.
A friend came over to visit me.
The boys were here today, they wanted to take photos for their new album cover for their bands' first album. They've been in the studio all week working on it. (Jake the guy with the Pacific Tree Frog, is a member of the band).
I got to bring Spirit home from the vet today (Parvo). He's thin but getting better now. Caught it from coyotes according to the vet. It is airborne.
I tried to get some photos this afternoon before the sun went behind the hill, but with all the people and activity, I was only able to get one decent photo of a hummer.
Don't get me wrong, I like my two legged friends too! Just wasn't expecting them.
I'm not sure if this is Zoom or one of the black chinned hummers, too dark to tell for sure, and at the time they were both around. Will be back to normal tomorrow. Well, normal for me.

SW, I'm glad to hear Spirit is back at home now. That Parvo is really bad here too. It's really important that everyone gets their dogs vaccinated every year for this nasty disease. Give Spirit a hug for me.
Palmbob, I love all your pictures. I'll have to look up all your flowers. They're beautiful and it's obvious the hummers love them.
My Red Hot Pokers (Torch Lilies or Kniphofia) are all beginning to bloom now. My hummers really love them. Here's a photo from last year.
Great photos. Palmbob, I bet they have happy hummers at the Huntington. Can you imagine what a candy store that is? LOL
What duc and KC said goes double for me. Lovely photos.
palmbob, when you say the "Huntington", what are you referring to? Is it a botanical garden?
Great photos of the hummers. Love the flowers too. Like duc, I'm going to have to see if I can grow some of them in my area.
Thanks for jumping in, a pleasure to hear from you and see your photos! ^_^

I looked them up here on Daves and they're a beautiful plant. Just having trouble finding places that sell them.
Look for DG members willing to trade! Some might even have them for sale, duc.
Good luck and keep us posted.
WIB!

Here you go, SW. If you every get a chance, spend the day! http://www.huntington.org/
Not sure if this is Zoom or the Trickster. They were dancing around each other. Was almost funny. They were nice and first Zoom ate, and then I think the Trickster. I also saw Zippy, but the photos were all blurry. Then there was this really small black chinned who came by. I didn't have the camera on me. I'll try again for tomorrow. Last one from me today.

Cute photos SW. Seems strange to see smaller birds chasing after hawks doesn't it? I see it here almost daily. Last night an Oriole was chasing off a Crow, then the Tree Swallows were diving at the Crows and the Jays. Everyone is trying to protect the younguns.
This little girl was sitting in our Bay Laurel tree, just watching the other birds.
Lovely duc. Yeah, it does seem strange to see how fierce they can be.
So far, Zoom or Trickster has been guarding the feeder and doesn't let anyone else approach. He perches and waits, then he drives them away. Thinking of moving the feeders to different locations. The kids accidently mess around with them. Then the hummers get unhappy. Besides now that the trees are leafing out, my sun areas are changing. Sun is better for seeing the colors.
Have some ideas there.
Hope to have some good photos to share, or see later on.
