DAILY PICS VOL. 213

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Wow, we are really getting some amazing birds now. We are at the peak of spring migration over the next couple of weeks. So really looking forward to some new birds popping up here on the Forum!!

The male Pileated Woodpecker has started visiting almost every day now, just as it did last year. I am really hoping that eventually we will get to see fledgling Pileated's!! In the mean time we will stop whatever we are doing and watch this magnificent bird every time it comes!

In case you would like to revisit the last thread, we came from here... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/984480/

whoooaaaaa. Blue feet and bill. Coolio!

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

I am so envious of ya'll's birds. All I have to look forward to are how many Grackles I might unfortunely have, how long it'll take my gray catbirds to eat the mealworms, and the same ole boring finches. :( However I did manage some pics of a pair of bluebirds at my work. Tis a shame I have to drive 45 miles to get bird pics. LOL

Every time I read about the Whistling Duck, I find myself thinking about the rare mile-or-more bird and laughing. LOL

Thank for the new thread Nanny, wish I had the Pileated come to my yard again. Nice bird. Aww love the babies.
Meth cool ducks, love the 2 variety of Whistlings.
24goingfor5, Like the family photo at home.

Very nice shots of the Pileated and others Nanny! Thanks for starting the new thread!

Met, Those Blues and Ducks are beautiful!

Nice Bluebird Jay!

Burn, Very nice pics here and in the last thread!

South Hamilton, MA

I envy the pileated. Ours had a favorite birch tree which finally fell over last summer, so I'm afraid it will stay in the woods now.

Cute "pileated" Burn!! LOL

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I think this is an Eastern Meadowlark. Totally exciting for me (new bird and one of my favorites of Rose's) but disappointed that it was so far away and such a lousy shot.

Burn...cute wannabe!!

YAY Mrs. Ed...ANOTHER new bird!!! I had a couple places I wnated to go to and look for birds, but my car will be in the shop until the end of next week. Very bad timing darn it!

We had a female Eastern Towhee in the yard just before dark. So no good pics of her.

Here's a few European Starling shots...not new birds but...

Fortunately I've been able to pretty much eliminate them from my feeders. These shots were taken about a month ago I guess.

They are really beautiful birds and I love their flock flight. Too bad they can be such thugs at the suet feeders.

Nanny, you need a scooter!!!

Hope you are still feeling well after that accident

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I am fine from the accident. But I am sIck to my stomach....I just went down to check on the BB babies and the box was open. Turned out there had been 5 beautiful baby Blue Birds. But something got into the box and killed all of them....they were strewn all aover the ground. I almost thought I could do it and have a nest box.

Last shot of the Blue Bird babies...

Okay...had me a good cry....unfortunately my friend just put his boxes on a tree with no baffles or any protection against predators. Just such a shame....

The popular mode of transportation around here is golf carts. But they cost way too much and I have no room in the garage for one! But I was really wanting to go over to Greencastle to the Depauw Nature Center. There is supposed to be good birding there and hoped to see some new warblers on migration. Maybe next year....

Anyway on a brighter note, spotted my first Indigo Buntings this morning.I saw the pair that nested very close by my house and were the ones that visited the yard a few times. Hope my new feeders & finch mix pay off!

here is the male up in a tree if you look real hard now!!

Grosbeaks are really beautiful birds... we have had quite a few stopping by this year. This apparently first year male was out here earlier today. Rose-breasted variety of course!

Yes, that is a Meadowlark, Mrs. Ed. I have both species around here. I live right on the edge of the Crosstimbers. Where the eastern forests meet the prairie. In OK basically I35 is the dividing line. East is forest and west is prairie.

Here is a young Titmouse who showed up with his parents this week.

Congratulation on the Meadowlark Marna.
Meth you've captured the color very nicely in the Starling.
Thanks Pelle . Luv and Nanny. Nanny sorry to hear about the Blue's babies, but what a treat with the indigo.
Red, Titmouse is very sweet.
